When I was little, my dad would let me sit beside him on the porch while he painted. He would tell me how the cow by itself is just a cow, and the meadow by itself is just grass and flowers, and the sun peeking through the trees is just a beam of light, but put them all together and you’ve got magic.
I understood what he was saying, but I’ve never felt what he was saying until one day when I was up in the sycamore tree to rescue a kite stuck in the branches. It was a long way up, but I thought I’d give it a shot. I started climbing. Then I looked down. And suddenly I got dizzy and weak. I was miles off the ground! But the kite was still beyond my reach. I caught my breath and forced myself to concentrate on the kite as I climbed up.
When I had the kite free, I needed a minute to rest. That’s when the fear of being up so high began to lift, and in its place came the most amazing feeling that I was flying. Just soaring above the earth, sailing among the clouds.
Then I began to notice how wonderful the breeze (微风) smelled. It seemed like sunshine and wild grass and rain! I couldn’t stop breathing it in, filling my lungs again and again with the sweetest smell I’d ever known.
I never got over the view. I kept thinking of what it felt like to be up so high in that tree. I wanted to see it, to feel it, again. And again.
It wasn’t long before I wasn’t afraid of being up so high and found the spot that became my spot. I could sit there for hours, just looking out at the world. Sunsets were amazing. Some days they’d be purple and pink, some days they’d be an orange, setting fire to clouds across the horizon.
It was on a day like that when my father’s notion (观念) moved from my head to my heart. The view from my tree was more than rooftops and clouds and wind and colors combined.
And I started marveling (惊奇) at how I was feeling both humble and majestic. How was that possible How could I be so full of peace and full of wonder
It was magic.

In recent times, with the emergence of electric cars, the concept of powering them with solar energy has also started picking up steam. Electric cars—even though they run on electricity and don’t use fossil(化石) fuels—are still NOT GREEN! People suffer from the misconception that not using fossil fuel means “green” which is kind of ridiculous, considering the electricity we use is generated by burning the very same fuels!
However, what if your car had solar panels that could charge it Now that would indeed be a green machine! Basically, as much as we would like to incorporate this energy source into our car, the efficiency of the currently used solar panels is subject to the fulfillment of different criteria.
Firstly, solar panels occupy a large amount of area. An average car has an area of 10-25 sq. ft. on the roof, which can generate between 50-150W under ideal conditions. This is hardly enough power to light a small bulb! Also, moderate sunny temperature needs to be ideal, as extremely high temperatures can reduce the efficiency of the solar panels. Cars must work in all weather conditions, so if a solar panel limits the car’s functionality, it becomes practically useless. More importantly, the cost of the panels and development required to power the electronics using the sun’s energy outweighs the benefits that solar panels provide.
Most cars today that have solar roofs, use the solar energy to power only a few basic functions of the car. While there is still time before we will be able to drive cars fully powered by solar energy, there are some alternatives, such as solar power stations, which are being designed to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels for electricity.
Solar-powered vehicles are surely the future, but not the near future. As the cost of solar panels continues to fall and their efficiency increases, things will begin to look much “brighter” for this alternative and sustainable option!
46. Why aren’t electric cars environmentally friendly
A. They won’t work as well as the common cars.
B. They are not powered by solar energy.
C. They cause more pollution to the world.
D. They run on electricity produced by burning fuels.
47. What can we learn from the third paragraph
A. Temperatures have little effect on solar panels.
B. Powering the electronics costs little.
C. A car’s roof generates enough power to light a bulb.
D. The performance of current solar panels depends on various factors.
48. What can we infer about solar energy in the car industry
A. Most cars have solar roofs.
B. Cars can be currently powered from solar power stations.
C. Cars partly powered by solar energy are on the road.
D Solar cars will soon be available.
49. What is the passage mainly about
A. The advancements in solar power technology for cars.
B. Understanding the concept of ‘green’ energy in cars.
C. The challenges and prospects of solar-powered cars.
D. The role of solar power stations in automobile industry.
50. What is the author’s attitude towards solar-powered vehicles

Most people with good sense would accept that we can and should learn from accidental failures. It would be impossible to progress in anything, after all, without taking the occasional misstep. And by understanding how we slipped, we can avoid falling in the future.
Few would advocate making intentional mistakes, however. Yet consciously erring(犯错) can promote deeper understanding and better recall. The phenomenon is known as the derring effect—coming from “deliberate(故意的) erring”—and when applied properly, it may bring benefits in many unexpected areas of life.
In one experiment carried out at the National University of Singapore, participants were given the task of learning concepts on a difficult subject. For some terms, they simply copied out the correct definition; for others, they were asked to first add an error in their description of the term before correcting the mistake.
Naturally, you would expect the addition of the errors to have increased unwanted confusion. Yet the exact opposite was true: the participants who made deliberate errors learned about twice as much as the people who simply copied out the correct definitions.
The derring effect could be applied in other situations. So a music teacher may find the addition of deliberate errors could help a student remember the right musical notes. Such a playful approach could fuel their creativity for composition if the student looks for ways to develop those wrong notes into something more attractive. It is encouraging to discover that by readily accepting our errors and wisely placing ourselves in the way of being wrong we can in fact overcome weaknesses and rise stronger.
The derring effect could be useful for many other challenges too. If you enjoy cooking, for example, you may faithfully follow a recipe without questioning the instructions. But why not try to break away from those habits and deliberately do the “wrong” thing for a change, and see where your derring takes you If you are painting, meanwhile, you could relax one of the constraints (限制) that you usually put on your work and see what you produce.
At worst, you will have refreshed and deepened your knowledge of the rules you normally apply, so that you can be even more effective next time. At best, you may just find that you have discovered something completely new and unexpected, through a flash of inspiration that you would have missed with perfectionism. Either way, your apparent missteps will have moved you a little closer to true mastery.
51. What do sensible people accept about failures
A Avoid failures completely. B. Failures don’t teach us much.
C. Progress doesn’t include failures. D. Mistakes can be valuable lessons.
52. What did the Singapore study conclude about errors in learning
A. Mistakes enhance learning. B. Only fixing errors teaches.
C. Mistakes cause learning confusion. D. Fewer errors occur in tough subjects.
53. According to the author, applying the method discussed in Paragraph 5 may lead to
A. Poor shows. B. Increased creativity.
C. Problem finding. D. Weakness acknowledgement.
54. What might the author advise you to do
A. Follow recipes strictly. B. Avoid errors.

第Ⅲ卷
第四部分:写作(共两节,满分35分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5 小题; 每小题2 分,满分10 分)
阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
When Brantley Harrison and her family rescued a tiny, injured squirrel back, then released her back into the wild, they didn’t expect to ever see her again. Nine years later, however, little Bella, they called the squirrel Bella, still comes to visit them almost every day—as long as snacks are provided, of course.
As a baby, the terrible attack made by an owl (猫头鹰) left Bella near death, she was carefully taken in by the Greenville County, South Carolina family, and raised by them alongside three other squirrels named Larry, Curly, and Moe. Bella stayed with the Harrisons until she had healed successfully thanks to a regular diet of fruit, nuts, and baby food, and was ready to jump on the trees in the forest. The sweet squirrel never goes too far from her adopted home, though, and stops by to say hello whenever she can, despite how much time has passed.
“Bella sits right at the front door waiting for someone to notice she has come by for a visit. If no one notices her, she will jump over to the dining room window to wait for someone to see her,” Brantley told The Dodo. The little lady just isn’t ready to part with the family that succored her life. Whenever she stops by, she asks for nothing more than a handful of nuts.
What is the most amazing part A few years after Bella’s original stay at the Harrison house, she found her way back to them with an injured foot—and a belly full of babies—spending another few months of recovering. “It was truly amazing to watch the baby I raised raise her own babies,” Brantley said. Bella now even has her own Instagram page, where her human family documents her adventures, with almost 4 thousand followers!

根据第二段“As a baby, the terrible attack made by an owl (猫头鹰) left Bella near death, she was carefully taken in by the Greenville County, South Carolina family, and raised by them alongside three other squirrels named Larry, Curly, and Moe.(小时候,一只猫头鹰的可怕袭击使贝拉濒临死亡,她被南卡罗来纳州格林维尔县的一户人家精心收养,和另外三只松鼠——拉里、科利和莫伊——一起抚养长大)”可知,小贝拉被猫头鹰弄伤后它(她)被哈里森一家救了。故答案为It/she was saved/rescued by the Harrisons/family.
【57题详解】
考查细节理解。根据第二段“Bella stayed with the Harrisons until she had healed successfully thanks to a regular diet of fruit, nuts, and baby food, and was ready to jump on the trees in the forest.(贝拉一直和哈里森一家待在一起,直到她通过定期进食水果、坚果和婴儿食品成功康复,并准备在森林里的树上跳来跳去)”可知,哈里森一家用水果、坚果和婴儿食品喂养它/她。故答案为They fed it/her on regular diet of fruit, nuts and baby food. OR: They provided it/her with a regular diet of fruit, nuts and baby food. OR: By giving/offering it/her a regular diet of fruit, nuts and baby food.
因此“The little lady just isn’t ready to part with the family that succored her life.”可知,她还没准备好和救她的家庭分开。由此可判断出“succored”意为“saved/rescued”。
【59题详解】
考查细节理解。根据最后一段“A few years after Bella’s original stay at the Harrison house, she found her way back to them with an injured foot—and a belly full of babies—spending another few months of recovering.(贝拉最初住在哈里森家几年后,她带着一只受伤的脚和一肚子的孩子回到了他们身边,又花了几个月的时间恢复)”可知,一只脚受伤了,怀孕让贝拉在最初的几年后又回到了哈里森家。故答案为An injured foot and a belly full of babies. OR: Its/her injured foot and coming babies. OR: Its/her injured foot and the babies in her belly. OR: That it was pregnant/had babies on the way and injured (in the foot).
【60题详解】
考查开放题。题意“贝拉的故事对你有什么启发?请用你自己的话解释。”贝拉救助了小松鼠,与它和谐相处,因此我将尽我所能保护动物,并与它们和谐相处。故答案为I will do whatever I can to protect animals and live with them in harmony.

D. Solar cars will soon be available.
A. The author is cautious but optimistic about solar-powered vehicles.
B. The author is extremely enthusiastic about solar-powered vehicles.
C. The author is negative and thinks solar-powered vehicles are impractical.
D. The author is indifferent to the idea of solar-powered vehicles.
D

A. Poor shows. B. Increased creativity.
C. Problem finding. D. Weakness acknowledgement.
54. What might the author advise you to do
A. Follow recipes strictly. B. Avoid errors.
C. Ignore traffic rules. D. Use unusual colors in art.
55. What could be the best title for the passage
