Dad's comb was jade green.I heard he bought it when he married Mum,which made the comb two years older than I was.Every night,he would smile, hand me the comb and say,“ Be a good girl and help Daddy clean it,OK?”
I was more than happy to do it.At age five this mundane (平凡的) task brought me such joy.I would excitedly turn the tap on,then brush the comb with a used toothbrush as hard as I could.Satisfied that I'd done a good job,I would proudly return the comb to Dad.He would smile at me and place the comb on top of his wallet.
About two years later,Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business.I started primary school. That was when things started to change. He didn't come home as much as he used to—just a couple of times a week. And when he did come home,it was always late and I would already be in bed.I started to get mad.I stopped waiting for him to come home, and stopped going downstairs to check on him.
Today,I'm no longer a kid.I've graduated from college and got a job.Dad's business has got back on track.Things are better now.Yet the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me persists.
Two days before my birthday this year,Dad came home early. As usual,I helped him carry his bag into his study. When I turned to leave,he said,“ Hey,would you like to help me clean my comb?” I looked at him for a while, then took the comb and headed to the sink.
I passed the clean comb back to Dad.He looked at it and smiled. But this time,I noticed something different. My dad had aged.He had wrinkles next to his eyes when he smiled, yet his smile was still as heartwarming as before—the smile of a father who just wants a good life for his family.Dad carefully placed his comb on top of his wallet.
After so many years,he still organizes his personal items in the same meticulous (细心的) way.I guess some things never change. And for that,I'm glad.
4.What caused the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me
A.The generation gap.
B.Dad's failure in business.
C.My ignorance of Dad.
D.Dad's absence from the family.
5.Which of the following can best describe Dad

C.To fix their relationship.
D.To praise her helpfulness.

Paula is a 55 year old woman living in New Jersey. She lives a happy life without concern for financial or social problems and she constantly shares laughs with her family and friends.About ten years ago,her husband Michael gave her a gold ring with a diamond in it on their 20th wedding anniversary. She cherished it very much and wore it every day.
Having been married for almost 30 years,Paula had everything set for herself, and knew that her life in New Jersey was a thrilling one.One day,Paula was in the bathroom cleaning everything up,from the sink to the floor. She wanted to keep her house clean and beautiful. As soon as Paula finished washing the bathtub, she moved on to the part she feared most:the toilet.Wanting to get it out of the way,she quickly cleaned the inside of the toilet with a brush, and flushed(冲走)the soap away. After finishing, she felt there was something wrong, but she couldn't think of what it was.
Paula's heart skipped a beat when she noticed that her left ring finger felt a bit lighter. She slowly looked down at her ring finger, hoping that her treasured anniversary gift was still on it.She was frightened to see that it was lost. She didn't notice that she had flushed it down the toilet.
Paula said,“I must have flushed it down.It had been a little big on my finger, because it was winter time and my hands were smaller.I felt so bad about it.Sad and embarrassed.”
She couldn't believe that she just let thousands of dollars go down the drain(下水道), literally. She searched the bathroom and even the house, hoping that she just dropped it somewhere and forgot about it.She even took apart the toilet and searched the inside pipes with a flashlight, but in vain.Paula had no idea how to explain this to her husband. To buy the ring,Michael worked extra hard before the anniversary,so to tell him the bad news was unimaginable for Paula.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
She softly knocked on the door to their bedroom.

It's easy to stick to eating the same foods every day, especially if you love them. 1
Eating the same foods can lead to nutritional shortage. Our bodies need a wide range of nutrients, and eating a wide variety of foods can help us meet our bodies'needs. 2 Almost everyone would agree that “eating the rainbow” is a good rule of thumb.Don't forget frozen vegetables are just as healthy as the fresh ones and that they don't spoil quickly.
Your immune system (免疫系统) will get hurt if you keep eating the same foods.According to a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, the enhanced nutrition from varied diets seems to boost immunity. 3 People whose diets have little variation are more likely to get sick due to a weakened immune system.
Sticking to eating the same foods leads to food boredom. 4 It should be something you look forward to.Changing what you eat exposes you to great new foods and new recipes, and helps bring back the fun in eating.
5 We see a lot of people focus on a single nutrient or food because it attracts media fame. And while all foods are to be celebrated for their unique nutritional quality, assigning yourself to a limited list of foods because they are the most well known or well described will box you in and close you off from various other vital nutrients.
A.Food should be fun!
B.This helps people resist infections.
C.But it may not be the best thing for your health.
D.You should eat a plant based diet and eat less meat.
E.Eating the same foods restricts your nutritional sources.
F.Though tasty, they can't provide the nutrition you need.
G.Eat the colors of the rainbow when it comes to fruit and vegetables.

Consistently doing what you need to do to succeed, with total focus and determination,is incredibly difficult. 1 Here are some ways that can help you be more successful in your life.
Let your past inform your future. The past is valuable.Learn from your mistakes.Learn from the mistakes of others. Then let it go. 2 Think about what went wrong but only in terms of how you will make sure that won't happen next time.
Never complain.Your words have power, especially over plaining about your problems always makes you feel worse, not better. So if something is wrong, don't waste time complaining. 3
Learn to ignore the things you have no control over.Mental strength is like muscle strength — no one has an unlimited supply. So why waste your power on things you can't control? For some people,it's family. For others,it's global warming. 4 Fine.Do what you can do:Lend a listening ear.Recycle, and reduce your carbon footprint.Make your own change — but don't try to make everyone else change.
5 Before you turn out the light every night, take a moment to quit worrying about what you don't have.Think about what you do have. You have a lot to be thankful for.Feels pretty good, doesn't it?Feeling better about yourself is the best way of all to recharge your mental battery.
A.Be grateful for the good things in your life.
B.The past is just training;it doesn't define you.
C.Whatever it is,you care, and you want others to care.
D.See your life and future as being totally within your control.
E.Just put that mental energy into making the situation better.
F.People may like your things, but that doesn't mean they like you.
G.And that's why the ability to work hard and respond positively to failure is vital.
