72.Dear Mr. Smith,
I'm Li Hua, a student from Class 1, Grade 2. I’m writing to thank you for returning my schoolbag.
Last Sunday, I left my schoolbag on the playground owing to my carelessness. I was worried because my student's ID card, wallet and some documents were all in it, which were very important to me. Just as I was at a loss. I was informed that my schoolbag was at the school's Lost and Found and it was you who had found my schoolbag. My excitement was truly beyond description at that moment!
Please accept my cordial thanks for your help.
Yours,
Li Hua

W: Well, if I need my car fixed, I know who to call.
Text10:
W: Thank you for attending this public hearing on our new severe weather warning system. I’m Helen Dunley. First, I’d like to remind everyone that the main purpose of a weather warning system is to tell people outdoors to move inside. Now, it’s important to remember that we will test the system every Saturday at noon, so don’t worry about the noise at that time. It’s a good idea to go outside and listen when we test the system and make sure you can hear clearly in your neighborhood. Remember that the loud noise is only one part of the warning system. The loud noise is played by city officials after we receive warnings from the national weather service. In other words, you might hear a warning on the national news before you hear a warning here. If you do hear one, what should you do First, take cover. Our city doesn’t have public shelters, so go to the inside of any building, away from windows. Second, wait for reports on local media. Finally, stay indoors until you hear the all-clear signal.

Herb Chasan could have eased into retirement after spending 18 years teaching math to high school students. But the octogenarian couldn’t rest. It wasn’t until eight years ago that he stepped into one of the city’s poorest neighborhoods. He noticed a group of children wandering nearby with nothing to do. He couldn’t shake the image from his mind, and it became the driving force for Hoops and Homework, an after-school program that has provided activities and tutoring for youth up to age 14.
Since 2012, Hoops and Homework has helped more than 300 children who otherwise would have gone home to empty houses or roamed the streets until their parents got off work. Thanks to Mr. Chasan and dedicated staff and volunteers, the children instead have spent industrious afternoons making crafts, playing basketball, learning violin and yoga, gardening, and basking in the attention of a small army of tutors. “Our goal is to help these kids break the cycle of poverty and jail to have a good job, to be a success,” says Mr. Chasan.
Within a few months, he secured $81,000 in town funding to start the program. It takes $170,000 annually to run the center. Hoops and Homework has encouraged people from different parts of the community to volunteer during the after-school sessions because they can tell the children “someday you may be doing that job, we love to have role models come in.”
The program goes beyond helping children. Most of the staff members are bilingual, which enables them to serve the largely Spanish-speaking community. “My English is not good,” says Keila Cupid, a parent who lives close to the center. But the mother of 11-year-old Cupid is clear in expressing her gratitude for Hoops and Homework: “It’s a safe space for my daughter when I am away to my English class.”
24.What motivation made Chasan decide on Hoops and Homework
A.Homeless neighborhood kids. B.Parents being engaging in work.
C.The volunteers in the community. D.Children aimlessly walking around.
25.What activity is available in Hoops and Homework
A.Making crafts. B.Baking food. C.Learning Spanish. D.Doing extra homework.
26.Which statement does Chasan agree with
A.More money should go to charity.
B.More people should join in voluntary work.
C.More community centers should be built.
D.More after-school activities should be considered.
27.From the passage, we can infer________.
A.starting an organization is tough B.Keila Cupid is studying Spanish
C.parents can benefit from the program D.the community kids must have a successful career

My name is Matthew. I'm not someone who has many secrets, because I'm a terrible liar. But there is one huge secret that I kept for years- -I failed my driving test. I had never failed a test before, and had never even come close. Driving made me anxious , but my parents told me I had to. They signed me up for driving lessons. I had gotten a perfect score for my written permit exam , but getting behind the wheel was a different story.
But when October 30th rolled around ,my pride set in. I wanted to be like everyone else at my school , showing off the brand new license they'd gotten. Looking back on that special day,I can't remember if I was nervous. What I do remember is starting the test , pausing at a stop sign after a few seconds , and being asked by the instructor to pull over. I had received an auto-fail since my pause was indeed a pause and not a real stop. I wasn't upset that I was leaving without a license, but I was scared everyone would know that I had failed. So when I got to class, I told everyone I didn't want to take the test on my birthday.
One Friday a month later, I went to the test spot again and passed. Later that night I drove for the first time by myself, which brought to me an amazing feeling I've never experienced——but sill, I couldn't imagine ever telling anyone the truth. So I didn't. It wasn't until midway through college that I came clean. It turned out plenty of my college friends had failed too! And I gathered enough courage to speak the fact out. Yes ,I had also failed.
Now I realize failure and imperfection are two things everyone has to experience , without which one couldn't make a true man.
28.What can we learn about Matthew
A.He was a slow learner of driving. B.He relied heavily on his parents.
C.He was afraid of taking exams. D.He was bored with telling lies.
29.Why did the instructor ask Matthew to pull over
A.To put an end to his lest. B.To check his parking skills.
C.To give him a second chance, D.To show him a better way of driving.
30.W hat made Matthew feel extremely worried after his first attempt
A.Failing to get a driving license. B.Missing his birthday celebration.
C.Making his parents disappointed. D.Losing face before his classmates.
31.W hat did Matthew learn from his own experience
A.Honesty is the best policy. B.Failure is a way to grow up.
C.Truth stands the test of time. D.Imperfection is another form of perfection.

A Dutch city will become the first in the world to ban meat advertisements from public spaces in an effort to reduce consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The ban also covers holiday flights, fossil fuels and cars that run on fossil fuels. The ban is delayed until 2024 due to existing contracts with companies that sell the products.
Haarlem, which lies to the west of Amsterdam and has a population of about 160,000,will bring the ban into effect from 2024 after meat was added to a list of products deemed to contribute to the climate crisis. Advertisements will not be allowed on Haarlem’s buses, shelters and screens in public spaces, prompting complaints from the meat sector that the government is “going too far in telling people what’s best for them”.
Recent studies suggest global food production is responsible for one-third of all planet-heating emissions, with the use of animals for meat accounting for twice the pollution of producing plant-based foods. Forests that absorb carbon dioxide are cut down for the food of animals while fertilisers used for growing their feed are rich in nitrogen(氮),which can contribute to air pollution, water pollution and climate change. Livestock also produces large quantities of methane(甲烷),a powerful greenhouse gas.
Zlggy Klazes,a councillor from the GroenLinks party, said she had not known the city would be the world’s first to enforce such a policy when she proposed it. She told the Haarlem105 radio channel:“We are not about what people are baking and roasting in their own kitchen;if people want to continue eating meat, it’s fine. We can’t tell people there’s a climate crisis and meanwhile, encourage them to buy products that are part of the cause. Of course, there are a lot of people who find the decision shocking and unreasonable, but there are also a lot of people who think it’s fine.”
32.What does the meat sector think of the ban
A.Disapproving. B.Neutral. C.Indifferent. D.Positive.
33.What do recent studies show
A.Nitrogen is harmful to the environment. B.Methane mainly comes from livestock.
C.Meat consumption causes more pollution. D.People cut down trees for human habitation.
34.What message do Ziggy Klazes’s words convey
A.She is the first to ban meat advertisement. B.She is in favor of banning meat advertising.
C.She emphasizes the advantage of eating meat. D.She cares about what people cook in the kitchen
35.What is the best title for the text
A.Fossil fuels are banned in Dutch city. B.Dutch city decreases meat production.
C.Dutch city bans meat advertisements in public. D.Greenhouse gas emissions are limited in Dutch city.
