Voluntary work in fact, brings many personal benefits. My personal experiences have affirmed my belief in this.
To begin, voluntary work has provided me with the opportunity to gain more insight into the lives of the less fortunate. I once volunteered to clean up one-room flats where the less fortunate lived in. When I first entered the flat, I was astonished at the state of the living conditions——it was overcrowded with people, messy household items, and newspapers. I was critical about the owners of the flat. However, as the cleaning proceeded, I learned more about their misfortunes and difficulties. I was regretful of my initial judgement of them. This incident has allowed me to learn more about people. Moreover, it has made me realise that many underprivileged communities are unjustifiably judged and discriminated against. I learnt that life is a lot more complex than I had imagined, and that I should always try to display empathy.
In addition, my experience with volunteer work has reminded me to be more thankful for the little things. When I volunteered at a school to teach basic life skills to students with cerebral pals(脑瘫), I found that the students were very appreciative of the teachers, teacher assistants and even the school attendants. The students often said “thank you” and smiled politely. I felt that as much as I had taught them, the students too had taught me: they taught me a lesson on gratitude.
Finally, doing voluntary work has given my life more meaning. After doing voluntary work, I feel more connected to the rest of mankind, and now have a stronger sense of purpose in my life. Instead of just being absorbed in my own wants and needs, now make use of the abilities I have to extend a helping hand to those in need.
24. What can be inferred about the author's first judgement on the people in the flat
A. Inspiring. B. Interesting. C. Pitiful. D. Rude.
25. Who taught the author to be more appreciative of life
A. The teachers. B. The volunteers.
C. The teacher assistants. D. The disabled students.
26. Which statement best describes the author's attitude towards voluntary work
A. Do as you would be done by.
B. Kill two birds with one stone.
C. All things are difficult before they are easy.
D. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
27. How does the author mainly prove his idea
A. By quoting others' words.
B. By using parallel sentences.
C. By giving opinions and facts.
D. By listing examples and numbers.
C
Will your job be done by a robot in the future Bank of England economist s predict that almost half of all UK jobs are under threat of automation. But could even the admired profession of teaching soon have to compete against powerful electronic educators
At first glance, teaching might seem impossible to be replaced by robots. Teachers use a range of soft skills that machines find hard to copy exactly. They judge pupils' needs and tailor feedback accordingly. They adapt materials to make them more engaging and effective. And they provide kind care: looking out for students who drop behind or disturb the class.
Despite that, some believe the future of education will be technological. Futurist Thomas Frey, from Business Insider magazine, predicts that “by 2030 the largest company on the internet is going to be an education-based company that we haven't heard of yet.”
He thinks that ‘bots’—online robot teachers will make education so efficient that students will be able to compress(压缩) an entire undergraduate degree into six months of learning A bot learns what your “idiosyncrasies” “interests” and “reference points” are, “and it figures out how to teach you in a faster and faster way over time,” according to Frey.
Whether or not such incredible speeds will be reached over the last decade, there has been a huge increase in online learning panies such as Udemy and Khan Academy produce courses that allow millions to learn at home for free at their own pace. But there are limitations. Without the face-to-face inspiration of a classroom environment, the majority of students fail to complete online courses. How to keep motivation to learn is one more skill that online teachers will need to master.
Indeed, Frey admits there is some way to go: “Nobody has quite cracked the code for the future of education.” What do teachers themselves think about this Professor Donald Clark from Derby University in the UK thinks that we should accept change , even though people will lose their jobs.
28. What's the second paragraph mainly about
A. Teaching by robots can be replaced.
B. The advantages of face-to-face teaching.
C. Human teachers will be replaced by robots.
D. The potential of the electronic educators.
29 What does the underlined word “idiosyncrasies” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean
A. Personalities. B. Senses. C. Nationalities. D. Families.
30. Why are Udemy and Khan Academy mentioned
A. To tell how online learning is progressing.
B. To show the significance of online learning.
C. To explain people how online learning works.
D. To suggest the shortcomings of online learning.
31. What might be talked about following the last paragraph
A. How robots will change in the future.
B. How artificial intelligence will destroy jobs.
C. How educators will meet the future challenge.
D. How electronic educators will lose their jobs.
D
We've all heard of IQ, and EQ, but have you heard of AQ AQ stands for adversity(逆境) quotient and measures your ability to deal with the ups and downs of life. Being able to handle these rough patches we all go through is not only important in our personal lives but ín our professional lives too. So how can we learn to be more resilient
Adverse situations can take us by surprise and shock us. In the workplace, it could be in the form of firings, the company we work for going under or being restructured, or even missing out on a promotion. Failed friendships and relationships, financial hard times and even deaths are things that can occur outside of work. AQ measures our ability to go through the shocks when life throws curveballs at us —how likely we are to deal with these situations. It can be used to predict our attitudes, perseverance, longevity, and the way we learn from changes in environment.
Luckily, there are some steps you can take to help you be more resilient in the face of adversity. First, try and find a meaningful goal. Adaptable people often have an aim and are able to concentrate more on a desired outcome, seeing negative situations as a bump in the road on the way to achieving their goal. Learning to relax and regulate your emotions is another key step ——one way to help you destress is by practicing breathing exercises. Similarly, thinking about things and letting them get to you can cause you to be stressed. See difficulties more as an opportunity to learn and grow emotionally. Finally, make sure you have a good social support network. Being able to talk with someone about the challenges we face can help.
Things happen in life we can't prevent ——and sometimes they aren't pleasant. But, taking a few steps to be more resilient can make them a little easier to get through.
32. What adversities are mentioned that may occur in the workplace
A. Being punished. B. Failed relationships
C. Missing out on a promotion. D. The company being maintained.
33. What can someone with a high AQ supposedly do
A. They can manage their emotions.
B. They can get themselves promoted.
C. They can achieve their goals easily.
D. They can avoid adversities properly.
34. Why does having a meaningful goal help in adverse situations
A. You can concentrate more on a desired result.
B. You can forget about the unpleasant situations.
C. You can see clearly a bump on the way to success.
D. You can completely ignore your negative situations.
35. Which is the best title for the passage
A. EQ:IQ:AQ B. How to Be Resilient
C. What Is Adversity Quotient D. Be Brave in Face of Adversity

Everyone makes mistakes .Mistakes are an essential part of what makes us humans 36 Not making mistakes is actually the biggest mistake you can ever make. So make them, learn from them and grow. Below are some ways to help you learn from mistakes.
Take 100% responsibility. After making a mistake, reflect on it. Blaming others for your mistakes will do you no good 37 Therefore, take 100% responsibility, accept the consequences and be part of the solution to the problem. The sooner you accept responsibility ,the sooner the problem is identified, and the sooner a resolution will be possible.
Figure out the cause of the mistake 38 Figuring out the cause will also help you avoid repeating it next time. Determine the specific action that led to the mistake. Take time to look into the events, see if there are things that need to be improved, and take time to work on them. Make the necessary changes to see the positive results.
39 You cannot change the mistakes that were made in the past, but you can take the lesson learnt and apply it when necessary. Don't move forward through life being afraid of making mistakes. The moment you see mistakes as lessons rather than mistakes, you will no longer have this crazy scare of meeting them along your journey.
Apologize if necessary. Apologizing for a mistake that you made, which affected someone, can make a big difference By apologizing, you are showing bravery 40
A. Move on fearlessly.
B. You cannot be perfect all the time.
C. Mistakes make you understand you are not perfect.
D. Only accepting responsibility can make learning possible.

Henry finished rolling copies of The Gazette, filled his bag and took off to deliver the news.
It was 8:15 a. m. when he delivered the last newspaper. He had put the paper where Mr.Grady could get it without struggling to the sidewalk. Across the street, Henry's delivery had landed perfectly too. Mrs. Burke, with twin babies, probably liked having her paper within easy reach.
Henry parked his bike near the office building and bounded up to the editor-in-chiefs door. Mr. Trotta said, “We’re closing shop, Henry. Advertising is down. Television is how people get their news today.”
“Um, no,” said Henry. “I've met so many people on my route. It's sad. People won't get their neighborhood news anymore.”
Mr. Trotta nodded and sighed. “We held out as long as we could," he said. “You were terrific, Henry ——always dependable.”
A week after his last deliveries, Henry wondered if his customers missed The Gazette as much as he did. He thought of a way to find out. He started out on his old route with a notebook. First stop: Mr. Jonas, 17 Oak. Mr. Jonas said that he liked reading the week's happenings and he had a pile of comics from old copies of The Gazette. He wondered if anyone would want them. Henry made a note in his notebook.
Mrs. Burke said she needed a babysitter. She was going to put an ad in The Gazette, but……
As Henry made more notes, an idea started forming in his head. Maybe he could create a newsy page for the neighbors. But how would he print it He went to the library and explained everything to Miss Ginger, the librarian. “Follow me,” she said. Seconds later, in front of a machine, Miss Ginger turned a handle and a purple-printed sheet rolled out. “ Will mimeographed (油印的) copies work ” she asked.
“Perfect.”
Henry had a plan.

Text 10
M: Ever since I first started working, I've been wondering if I really enjoy my job. It's a question that just about every adult deals with. After analyzing my happiness throughout my entire career, I have finally found the answer. In the office I work at, they call me an engineer. It has been that way for 3.5 years up to now. Being an engineer consists of spending a lot of time on a computer. Generally speaking, I spend about 70% of my time behind a computer screen. In addition, I get to spend another 15% in meeting s or telephone conferences. The other 15% I do actually spend some of my time on projects, which are located all over our beautiful planet. Some are in very interesting countries. This sounds great on paper. But when I'm on a project, I can expect to work at least 84 hours a week, with generally no days off. Yes, sometimes I was tired and stressful, but I generally like my job! I enjoy working behind my computer. It's what I'm good at and I consider myself to be useful.
