Lesson 41 Do you call that hat
Text 课文
First listen and then answer the question.
What kind of shopping does the writer enjoy, do you think
'Do you call that a hat ' I said to my wife.
'You needn't be so rude about it,' my wife answered as she looked at herself in the mirror.
I sat down on one of those modern chairs with holes in it and waited. We had been in the hat shop for half an hour and my wife was still in front of the mirror.
'We mustn't buy things we don't need,' I remarked suddenly. I regretted saying it almost at once.
'You needn't have said that,' my wife answered. 'I needn't remind you of that terrible tie you bought yesterday.'
'I find it beautiful,' I said. 'A man can never have too many ties.'
'And a woman can't have too many hats,' she answered.
Ten minutes later we walked out of the shop together. My wife was wearing a hat that looked like a lighthouse!

Grammar focus 语法
1. Do you call that a hat
call sth. sth.
We all call him Iron Ox.
2. You needn't be so rude about it.
Need I do it at once No,you needn't.
a. need to do sth.
He needed to drink some water.

b. need doing sth.
The flowers need watering every day.

3. I sat down on one of those modern chairs with holes in it and waited.
在and前面的句子中with holes in it是一个介词短语,作后置定语用来修饰前面的chairs。
4. 'We mustn't buy things we don't need,' I remarked suddenly.
The professor remarked: This is a beautiful fairy tale.
His remarks were attacked in the newspaper.

I regret to say that I cannot help you this time.
I regret to tell you that we cannot stay here any longer.
6. 'You needn't have said that,' my wife answered.
You needn't have waited for me.
We spent a lot of money that we needn't have spent.
7. I needn't remind you of that terrible tie you bought yesterday.
remind sb. of sth.
You remind me of my ex-girlfriend.
remind sb. to do sth.
Please remind me to get up on time.
8. 'I find it beautiful,' I said. 'A man can never have too many ties.'
在句子I find it beautiful中,it作动词find的宾语,beautiful作宾语补足语,起补充说明的作用。
can never…too这个结构表示无论……
You can never be too careful while driving.
