This year，Sam aims to grow one of the companies under her Freedom Services Group umbrella，Stella Insurance．She set it up in Australia for women．With each deal，the business donates $5 to a charity，and plans to grow the company in the UK are underway．

It's important to practice self-care and treat yourself with occasional gifts．However，experts caution that comfort shopping is only a temporary fix，which only helps you escape problems temporarily．“Shopping for and receiving an item is stimulating on some level，and also the most passive way to live，” O'Kane adds．

When I talk to kids about writing，I often compare it to the roller coaster to remind them to mix laughs with thrills in writing，because nobody wants to ride a roller coaster that is long，never-ending and terrifying．Even Shakespeare，in his darkest tragedies，opens each act with a funny scene before the swords and daggers or poison come out．We need comic relief in literature，a break in the tension．

Comedy is a writer's tool for releasing tension and it also simply makes books more fun to read．I used humor in my novel The Island of Dr．Libris to make classic literature feel more accessible to young readers．I also think it's why so many reluctant readers—including kids who haven't read a book in years—have been crazy about Escape from Mr．Lemoncello's Library and Mr．Lemoncello's Library Olympics．Learning the Dewey Decimal System in the class can be fun if it is presented in a funny way．Because when we're laughing，we never think we're working too hard．

So why do people laugh？They laugh in order to laugh with others．Just as everyone starts yawning (打哈欠) when just one person yawns，most people can't help but laugh when those around them do．This is why TV comedy shows often use prerecorded laughs．
Laughing in response to other people's laughing is not just a behavioral phenomenon．When we laugh，our body produces two key chemicals：endorphin which helps relieve pain and sets off feelings of pleasure，and dopamine which can improve learning，the motivation and attention．In fact，studies show that people can stand 15% more pain simply by laughing for a few minutes beforehand．Laughter is also associated with higher motivation and productivity at work．
In today's home-alone，virtual team world，this is exactly what you as a team leader should be doing：For your team members to stay healthy and productive，you need to get them to laugh more and stress less．

The cooling effect of trees reduces the surface temperature of European cities in the summer by up to 12℃ in some regions．In contrast，green spaces without trees have an insignificant effect，according to a study that strengthens the case for tree planting to help cities adapt to global warming．Jonas Schwaab at ETH Zurich in Switzerland and his colleagues used land surface temperature data collected by satellite to compare the temperature differences between areas covered by trees and treeless urban green spaces，such as parks and urban constructions such as roads and buildings．They analysed 293 cities from across Europe．
The land surface temperature measured by satellite isn't the same as the air temperature，which is more closely linked to what humans would feel，says Schwaab．“Usually，the air temperature differences between tree-covered areas and built-up areas would be much smaller than the land surface temperature differences，”he says．
The team found that tree-covered areas in cities have a much lower land surface temperature compared with surrounding areas．The differences were between 8℃ and 12℃ in central Europe and between 0℃ and 4℃ in southern Europe．
The cooling effect of trees comes largely from shading and transpiration(蒸腾)． This process takes heat energy from the surrounding environment for evaporation(蒸发)，lowering the surrounding temperature．In the warmer climate of southern Europe，the soil is typically drier，so the cooling effect of transpiration is lower than that in regions further north，says Schwaab．
The team also found that the cooling provided by treeless green spaces is insignificant，and in some instances green areas without trees can even be warmer than the surrounding urban areas．
Extreme heat is a growing problem for cities in Europe and elsewhere as the planet gets hotter．The findings show that trees can have a big influence on cities across Europe，but since the size of their effects varies，heat reduction strategies should be tailored to suit each region，says Schwaab．

What many consider to be Wilson's most important contributions to evolutionary biology came in 1975 when he published Sociobiology：The New Synthesis．The work explored the genetic roots of animal behavior and argued that genes shaped human behavior．
Wilson faced accusations for these ideas but his work finally largely proved true．In 1978，his ideas on the role biology plays in human culture peaked in On Human Nature，which won him a Pulitzer (普利策奖) Prize in 1979．
