情态动词could用法
(1) 用于虚拟语气中,其形式为“could+动词原形”,表示现在或将来的
事实相反;“could+have+过去分词”表示与过去的事实相反
e.g. If it weren’t raining, we could play basketball.
如果不是在下雨,我们就能打篮球了。
If we had arrived five minutes earlier, we could have caught the bus.
我们如果早到5分钟,就能赶上公交了。
(2) could可表示轻微的怀疑。
e.g. Don’t worry—they could have just forgotten to call.
别担心,他们可能只是忘了打电话。
(3) could用法注意:
① 在间接引语中,若主句为过去时,直接引语中的can更换成could。
e.g. He said, “I can speak Chinese.”
他说:“我会说中文。”
—He said he could speak Chinese.
他说他会说中文。
② could have done表对过去能做而未做的事感到惋惜、遗憾。
e.g. I could have passed, but I did not study hard.
我本来有可能及格,但我没用功。
(4)can和could表达建议、请求和命令。
can和could常用来提议为某人做某事或请求别人做某事。在语气上,could没有can那么肯定,could听起来更加迟疑,使提议或请求听起来更加客气。常用于陈述句和疑问句。
① 提议
e.g. We could write a letter to the director. 我们不妨给主管写封信。
Can I carry your bag 我来替你提包好吗?
注意:在疑问句中,也可以用may表示上述意思。
e.g. May I buy you a drink 我请你喝一杯好吗?
② 请求和命令
e.g. Could you babysit for us on Friday
你星期五帮我们看一下孩子好吗?
