Was there a Chinese soccer team at the Qatar 2022 World Cup No. But one couldn’t miss Chinese technologies in and around the stadiums in this desert state: “mobile hotels” for having a rest, ponds for drinking water, the photovoltaic (光伏发电的) power stations for charging mobile phones with electricity, etc.
Did we forget something Yes, even some stadiums were built by Chinese companies, while the gifts you could buy there, too, were made in China.
That was how China had participated in this World Cup and earlier matches, and might do so in the upcoming ones too: by providing products and services to the athletes and audiences. Those all impressed the world deeply with its technology and products.
While “Made in China” had left its stamp on earlier soccer World Cups and other sports events, what made the Qatar World Cup unique was the kinds of China’s technologies. For example, the Stadium 974, which was built by Chinese companies, was a movable “green stadium”. It could collect rainwater for future use and made the waste collected from the stadium into fertilizer (肥料). Besides, China had built an 800 MW photovoltaic station that constantly turns the rich sunshine in the Middle East into electricity for the stadium. “If those technologies had appeared in Russian 2018 World Cup, it would have been a much better one.” added a Russian football lover.
Another reason that had made it possible for Chinese companies to perform well in the World Cup was that China had developed a good economic growth. Although the whole world suffered from economic slowdown and recession because of the COVID-19 and other reasons, Chinese companies had largely continued to function normally.
8. What can we know about “green stadium“
A. It was painted into the color green.
B. It could be taken to any place if needed.
C. It was marked on the stamps of the World Cup.
D. It appeared in Russia World Cup for the first time.
9. What main point does the writer make in this passage
A. “Made in China” is going global.
B. The world economy is slowing down.
C. You can’t miss ”China green” in Qatar.
D. There’s a long way to go for Chinese football.
10. What does the underlined word “recession” in Paragraph 5 mean
A. Change. B. Increase. C. Recovery. D. Decrease.
11. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4
A. The green stadium of China in the World Cup.
B. The social importance of China in the World Cup.
C. The historical influence of China on the World Cup.
D. The technological contribution of China to the World Cup.
【答案】8. B 9. A 10. D 11. D

根据该段的主题句“While “Made in China” had left its stamp on earlier soccer World Cups and other sports events, what made the Qatar World Cup unique was the kinds of China’s technologies.(虽然“中国制造”在早期的足球世界杯和其他体育赛事中留下了印记,但卡塔尔世界杯的独特之处在于中国的技术)”可知,使的卡塔尔世界杯独特的是国的技术,因此本段的主旨是中国技术为卡塔尔世界杯做的贡献。故选D项。

People produce all kinds of food waste. A news report in our magazine published in November last year shows that about 60 million metric tons of food is wasted in the United States every year. (A metric ton is 1,000 kilograms or 2,205 pounds.)
The value of the waste is about $162 billion. About half ends up in city landfills (垃圾填埋场). It costs local government about $1.5 billion a year to deal with them. The report says that one third of all food in the world is never eaten. The full cost of the world’s food waste can be $400 billion a year. Billions can be saved if the amount of food waste is reduced. Most of the food is thrown away by shopkeepers and consumers in wealthy nations. If it is saved, it could feed 870 million hungry people of the world. A family of four wastes about $1,600 worth of food each year.
The production of food uses large amounts of water, land and fertilizer. Food waste in landfills creates methane—a powerful greenhouse gas. This gas is about seven percent of total pollution worldwide. Reducing food waste can make a difference.
Composting (堆制肥料) is one solution. However, there are other ways to reduce food waste. Extending expiration (终结) dates will reduce waste. Selling smaller bags of food also will reduce waste. An expert said, “We need to find ways to deal with food waste, but most importantly, we need to prevent it at the first place.”
12. What does the author want to tell us in Paragraph 2
A. Many people are facing hunger.
B. Food waste is likely to increase.

D. The problem of food waste is very serious.
13. What is the best solution to food waste
A. To put prevention first. B. To build more landfills.
C. To extend shelf life of food. D. To make it into useful materials.
14. What can we learn about the author
A. He is an editor. B. He is a TV reporter.
C. He is a public official. D. He is a professor assistant.
15. How is Paragraph 2 developed
A. By listing data. B. By giving examples.

A couple of days ago, there were many people on the bus. Halfway down the road, the driver suddenly stopped the bus by the side of the road and said, “I’m going to have dinner first. I’m hungry. ” Then he began to eat fried rice noodles while talking on the phone. After a while, many passengers urged (催促) the driver to go ahead, but the driver replied rudely, “Can’t you see I’m enjoying my noodles I’m so hungry.”
After a few minutes someone wanted to get off the bus, but was refused by the driver. He explained that nobody could get off because it was NOT a bus stop! Standing beside the driver, I watched him have the last of the noodles, thinking that we could finally start now. However, the driver took out another bag of soup!
I began to feel a little angry because I would be late for an important meeting. So I urged the driver to hurry up. However, the driver suggested politely that I should ask for a leave.
When the soup was about to be finished the driver picked up the phone again, looking in the rear-view mirror (后视镜) from time to time as if he were waiting for someone. At this time all the passengers on the bus began to shout, “We have waited too long. Start right now!” Suddenly, a police car stopped in front of our bus. We all thought that the policemen could help us and we could go at once.
Paragraph 1.
To our surprise, the two policemen got on our bus with handcuffs (手铐).

【答案】To our surprise, the two policemen got on our bus with handcuffs (手铐). “Ladies and gentlemen, just now we received a call saying there are two thieves on the bus, and someone’s mobile phone has been stolen.” Only at that time did we realize that the driver had informed the policemen of the theft. Then the driver locked the doors of the bus, while the policemen checked the passengers one by one, and found out the two thieves! Finally, the thieves were arrested and taken away.
Watching the thieves having been caught by the policemen, all the passengers smiled with delight. Obviously none of us had ever seen such a scene before, and we all showed our admiration to the driver in silence. Minutes later, the driver looked at me and smiled, “Sorry for keeping you waiting for so long. Do you still consider me as a rude guy ” I shook my head and said loudly, “Absolutely not, you are my hero!”

A Change. B. Increase. C. Recovery. D. Decrease.
11 What is the main idea of Paragraph 4
A. The green stadium of China in the World Cup.
B. The social importance of China in the World Cup.
C. The historical influence of China on the World Cup.
D. The technological contribution of China to the World Cup.
D
C. Food waste is caused for various reasons.
D. The problem of food waste is very serious.
13. What is the best solution to food waste
A. To put prevention first. B. To build more landfills.
C. To extend shelf life of food. D. To make it into useful materials.
14. What can we learn about the author
A. He is an editor. B. He is a TV reporter.
C. He is a public official. D. He is a professor assistant.
15. How is Paragraph 2 developed
A. By listing data. B. By giving examples.
C. By providing definitions. D. By making comparisons.

When the soup was about to be finished, the driver picked up the phone again, looking in the rear-view mirror (后视镜) from time to time as if he were waiting for someone.
