Many countries around the globe pride themselves on their lingual(语言的) variety. Here are a few of the most multilingual places on Earth.
Aruba
Aruba sits in the far Southern Caribbean Sea, near Venezuela. Dutch is an official language and is taught in all schools. Both English and Spanish are also the languages that students must learn in Aruba’s education system. However, none of them is considered the native language of Aruba. On the street and at home, locals communicate with one another in Papiamento. Papiamento is an official language besides Dutch, and it is used regularly in the media and in government.
East Timor
This tiny young nation sits in the far south east ern corner of the Indonesian Archipelago. Once a colony(殖民地) of Portugal, Timor decided to use Portuguese as an official language after independence. The local language, Tetum, is most widely spoken on the street. In addition, English and Indonesian are used throughout the country, and both are officially recognized as working languages.
India
Hindi and English are the official national languages of India, and the majority of educated Indians have knowledge of both, though English is preferred over Hindi in southern India. Each state in India has its own official language(s), most of which differ from Hindi. These languages are used in local media and on the street.
South Africa
South Africa has 11 official languages. In many city areas, English is the lingua franca(通用语). It is also the main language of government and media, even though less than ten percent of South Africans speak it as a first language. Bright and early on the morning of our first full day in Antarctica(南极洲), L' Austral's Captain Fabien's voice woke us up as it came through a loudspeaker. If we looked outside right now, he said, we'd see a beautiful sea of icebergs(冰山) in the golden sunlight. My sister and I jumped out of bed, staring in amazement as we sailed past giant pieces of ice. In the distance, we spotted a group of humpback whales feeding on smaller fishes. Next door, my parents were also waking up to the sights of a new day in Antarctica. Over breakfast, my sister and I excitedly told them about the whales we saw from our room that morning.
You might not immediately think “family vacation” when talking about a trip to Antarctica, but tour companies like Adventures by Disney are changing that. The company offers guided group trips to destinations across all seven continents in the world.
Our adventure started when we flew to Buenos Aires and explored the beautiful Argentine capital for a day. After leaving Buenos Aires, we flew to Ushuaia on an Adventures by Disney plane. Then, it was the journey toward the Drake Passage. After a speedy Drake Passage crossing, we reached Antarctica early, adding a half day to our scheduled four days on and around the continent.
To those unfamiliar with Adventures by Disney, the fact that you can experience Antarctica—the most distant, extreme continent—with Disney might be surprising. During the trip, there were thoughtful acts, from stamped postcards to send from an Antarctica post office to a champagne(香槟) party on our final stop of the journey; Adventures by Disney truly thought of everything for us. Antarctica is a life-changing destination packed with experiences that can't be copied. We experienced Drake Passage seasickness, hiked up ice hills alongside lovely animals, and had a taste of champagne. And honestly, it's going to be hard for the next family trip we take to compete. 24. Why did Fabien speak to passengers early in the morning
A. To ask them to remain seated. B. To wake them up for breakfast.
C. To warn them of possible dangers. D. To remind them of the beautiful sights outside.
25. What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 2 probably refer to

D. A guided trip being an uncomfortable way to explore a new destination.

27 What does the author think of their trip to Antarctica
A. It was tiring but extreme. B. More time should be added to it.
C. It was a family journey of a lifetime. D. There should be more thoughtful acts.
C
Capybaras(水豚) are group animals, so they do not like being alone. In fact, leaving a capybara alone is not only uncomfortable for the animal, but it can be harmful to their physical health, as well as their mental happiness. Capybaras love to talk to each other throughout the day. Groups of capybaras spend their days sun bathing along the edge of rivers, where they enjoy swimming together in the water. They spend half of their lives in the water.
Since they spend so much time around water, it makes sense that capybaras would come into contact with different kinds of other animals who stop in for a drink. Capybaras are gentle and peaceful river animals who enjoy a short sleep along the water's edge—and often do so with other animal species as well. You can find pictures all over the Internet of these lovely animals lying beside turtles, birds, ducks, rats, and even monkeys as they enjoy a nap by the water.
Capybaras are also known to be excellent and friendly taxis in the animal world. Birds and monkeys commonly stand on the back of a capybara for a ride as capybaras search for grass to eat. Sometimes capybaras even serve as boats for other animals, letting them sit on their heads as they swim through the water.
However, if you see a capybara lying on its side with a yellow-headed caracara(长腿秃鹰) on its body, don't panic just yet. Most likely the copybara is enjoying a nice spa day. Birds often make friends with capybaras and provide a natural cleaning service, picking off insects that live in the capybara’s fur. It’s a relationship that benefits each other, since the yellow-headed caracara also gets to enjoy eating those tasty insects. Yet, such lovely capybaras are not free of human influences and even face extinction now.
28. What does the first paragraph mainly tell us about capvbaras
A. Their life habits. B. Their survival skills.
C. Their appearance. D. Their risks in health.
29. Why are capybaras called friendly taxis

B. They carry their food by riding on another animal.
C. They allow other animals to stay on their backs or heads.
D. They guide other animals to swim through the water as a driver.
30. What does the author mean by saying “don't panic just yet” in the last paragraph
A. The caracara won't attack you.
B. The capybara won't suffer any injury.
C. The caracara may just take a short break.
D. The capybara may be providing its cleaning service.
31. What may probably be covered in the following paragraph
A. Calls for protection. B. Habits of caracaras.
C. Benefits of extinction. D. Threats from capybaras.
D
What are the limits of the human body Is there a point at which it is physically impossible to do something
“One thing we've all learned in the last 30 years or so is that just about anything is humanly possible,” says Dr. Jack Wilmore, author of Physiology of Sport and Exercise. “As time goes by, I think you'll see more records continue to fall in every sport. The talent pool is better than ever. With more and better athletes joining in and competing, records will fall and new ones will be set.”
Many believed it was physically impossible for a human to run a mile in under four minutes, but Roger Bannister proved that was wrong, with a three-minute, 59-second mile in 1954. Today, sub-four-minute miles are considered ordinary even in high school. And Bob Beamon amazed the whole world in the 1968 Olympics with his historic long jump of 8. 90 metres. In an event where a record is usually broken by me re inches, he broke the previous jump record by more than 21 inches, but even his record was broken in 1991.
One factor is now becoming more understood and paid more attention to: sports psychology(心理学). Getting inside the athlete's head can be as effective as training and long workouts. According to Wilmore, the psychological factor of sports has become more and more valued. He thinks highly of most teams' hiring(雇佣) professional sports psychologists to work for their players.
What's more, everything in the sports field—training, nutrition(营养), injury treatment—is far better than it's ever been. “Besides, children today are more likely to focus on one or two sports instead of competing in several as was common twenty-five years ago,” Wilmore says. “That means they start concentrating on a sport much earlier and put more effort into it, and thus they become much better at it.”
“There's a lot we don't know yet about the human body,” he adds. “And one of those things is can do.” the full range of human potential. It would be foolish to try and put limits on what the human body can do.”
32. What can we learn from Dr. Jack Wilmore's words
A. Athletes will become the most popular people.
B. It will be tougher for athletes to break former records.
C. It is necessary for athletes to learn the limits of the body.
D. Athletes will continue to surprise us with their achievements.
33. Why are Roger Bannister and Bob Beamon mentioned in Paragraph 3
A. To introduce two great athletes.
B. To show some of the latest world records.
C. To prove the limits of the body can be pushed.
D. To explain what athletes can achieve under stress.
34. What is Wilmore’s attitude towards the practice of hiring professional sports psychologists
A. Appreciative. B. Unconcerned. C. Doubtful. D. Objective.
35. How are today's children different from those 25 years ago according to Wilmore
A. They take part in far more sports.
B. They are less likely to get injured in sports.
C. They begin playing sports at a much earlier age.
D. They become more skilful at one particular sport.

Plogging—A Wim-Wim Activity
Last Wednesday witnessed a novel and meaningful activity, where students from Grade One volunteered to pick up rubbish while jogging in City Park. The activity, whose main aim was to build up students’ bodies and beautify the environment, turned out a great success.
As scheduled, an instructor first delivered a speech of the origin and requirements of the activity, explaining to the students its significance. After the gunshot, students who were divided into different groups started jogging on their assigned routes, bag in hand. Whenever they spotted a piece of litter along the road, they would stop to pick and put it into the bags. Then came the highlight —Student representatives placed all the collected garbage onto a truck bound for a nearby landfill for further treatment.
The whole activity was highly spoken of, with favorable remarks pouring in from both students and society. Many students hoped more beneficial activities like this would be held in the near future. (160 words)

The good news is that there are a few parents who are willing to volunteer to run soccer camps on the weekend in a more informal way for the youngest players. You would need to sign some paperwork and arrange your own transportation and appropriate clothing for each weekend, (19) but at least your kids will have the opportunity to play soccer every week. For more information, please contact the soccer coach Steve Wollinsky at 425-7660. You can also add your name to a sign-up sheet that is posted on a wall next to the bathroom. If you do so, please make sure to leave your phone number and email address as well. Thanks for everything.
