the expressions about past simple be
1. 一般过去时的基本用法：
(1) 一般过去时表示在过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的状态。
e.g. There was a sports meeting in her school last weekend.
上周末她的学校举行了一场运动会。
(2) 表示在过去一段时间内经常性或习惯性的动作。
e.g. When I was a child I lived in a country village.
小时候我住在乡村里。
2. 与一般过去时态连用的时间状语有：
一般过去时(1)
常见的有：yesterday, yesterday morning/afternoon/evening, the day before yesterday, last+时间名词 (e.g. last week, last Sunday…), 一段时间+ago (e.g. a week ago, a moment ago…), in+过去的年份 (e.g. in 1998, in 2008…), just now等。
3. be动词的过去式：
一般现在时态 am is are
过去式 was was were
4. 由be动词构成的一般过去时态句式有：
句式 结构 例句
肯定句 主语+was/were+其他. I was born in Xi’an in 1996.
我1996年出生在西安。
否定句 主语+wasn’t/weren’t+其他. You weren’t at school yesterday.
你昨天没去学校。
一般疑问句 Was/Were+主语+其他 Were you at home yesterday
你昨天在家吗？
句式 结构 例句
回答 Yes, 主语+was/were. Yes, I was. 是的，我在家。
No, 主语+wasn’t/weren’t. No, I wasn’t. 不，我没在家。
there be句型 there be句型的过去时，将上列句式结构的主语改为there即可 ①There was a bridge near the river. 河边有一座桥。
②—Were there any trees near the lake 湖边有树吗？—Yes, there were. / No, there weren’t. 是的，有树。/ 不，没有树。
注意：
主语是第一、三人称单数时，be动词的过去式使用was，第二人称及复数时用were。
