Part I 教材原文&翻译
Jane grew up with her grandma. She loves her grandma very much. One day, Jane received some bad news. Her grandma had a terrible type of cancer. This made Jane very sad.
Jane's grandma once had a dream of travelling around the world. Jane wanted to help her realize it,but her grandma was very sick. One day, Jane had a great idea. If grandma could not travel herself, maybe there was another way.
The next day, Jane went on line to tell people her grandma's story. She posted pictures of her grandma on a blog. She asked people if they could help her grandma see the world through pictures. After a few days, many people began to follow Jane's blog. They began posting pictures of Grandma visiting places all over the world. They also sent their blessings and warm wishes with every picture.
Grandma was very surprised when Jane showed her the pictures. In one of them,Grandma was visiting the Pyramids in Egypt. In another,Grandma was standing by the Statue of Liberty in New York. In a third picture,Grandma was on the Great Wall of China. She was even at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. In the last one, she was standing in front of Big Ben in England.
Grandma took Jane's hand and said,"This is wonderful! Thank you and all of those people. You have made my dream come true.” Neither Jane nor her grandma would ever forget that day.

奶奶拉着筒的手说:“这真是太好了!谢谢你和所有人。你们让我的梦想实现了。”简和她的奶奶将永远都不会忘记那一天。

receive v. 收到;接到
常用结构:receive sth. from sb. 从某人那里收到某物。
辨析receive 与accept
receive表示客观上收到,但不一定接受。
accept强调愿意接受,是主观上的接受。
eg: She received a valuable gift from her father yesterday. 昨天她从她父亲那里收到一份贵重的礼物。
I can’t accept an excuse like that. 我无法接受那样的一个借口。
例题:I ____ a new bike on my birthday, but I didn’t ____ it.
A. received; receive B. accepted; receive C. received; accept D. accepted; accept
cancer n. 癌症
固定搭配:have a cancer患癌症。have 表示“患,得( 病)”时,与get 和catch 同义。区别在于:have 是延续性动词,可以和一段时间连用;catch和get 是瞬间动词,不能和一段时间连用。
eg:Three days ago she caught/got a cold. 三天前她感冒了。
She has had a cold for three days. 她已经感冒三天了。

Jane’s grandma once had a dream of travelling around the world.
dream用法:
作名词时为可数名词,其复数形式为dreams;
常用短语:one’s dream come true
= realize one’s dream 实现梦想
eg: The boy’s dream is to be a pilot. 这个男孩的梦想是成为一名飞行员。
(2) 作动词时既可为及物动词也可为不及物动词,用作不及物动词时,常和介词about或of连用,构成短语dream about/of … 梦想……
eg: I dream of running my own business.我梦想自己开公司。
一语辨异:I dreamed a sweet dream. I dreamed of being a hero .
我做了一个甜美的梦。我梦到我成了一个英雄。
She asked people if they could help her grandma see the world through pictures.
句中的if意为“是否”,引导宾语从句,从句可以根据实际情况采用任何时态,有时可与whether互换。
eg: She asked me if/whether I could help her with her English. 她问我是否能帮助她学英语。
宾语从句中只能用whether,不能用if的情况:
whether与or not 直接连用时,只能用whether。
eg: I can’t say whether or not he will come on time. 他能否准时来,我说不准。
所引导的从句做介词的宾语时,只能用whether。
eg: I worry about whether I hurt her feelings. 我担心是否伤害了她的情感。
和动词不定式连用时,只能用whether。
eg: She hasn’t decided whether to go to the concert yet. 她还没有决定去不去那个音乐会。
They also sent their blessings and warm wishes with every picture.
句中的wish意为“祝愿;愿望”,常用其复数形式wishes。wish 还可以作动词,表示“希望”,
wish sb. to do sth.希望某人做某事。
eg: Best wishes to you! 给你最好的祝福!
My mother wishes me to be healthy. 我妈妈希望我健康。
In another, Grandma was standing by the Statue of Liberty in New York.
by的用法:
在……旁边;在……附近
eg:Our school is by the river. 我们学校在河的旁边。
by + 交通工具,意为“乘坐……”。
常用搭配:by ship / plane / taxi / bus / subway / car / bicycle / train
靠……,通过……,表示手段。
eg:We have kept in touch with each other by e-mail since he left China. 从他离开中国以后,我们彼此用电子邮件保持联系。
在……前,不迟于…,表示时间。
eg: The documents need to be ready by next Friday. 文件需要在下星期五之前准备好。

come true 实现,通常指梦想,愿望等的实现。
eg:I hope all your dreams can come true.我希望你所有的梦想都能成真。
My dream will come true someday. 我的梦想有一天会实现。
