We’re going to look at three sentences. Pay attention to the verbs.
Warming Up
(1) An intransitive verb does not take an object, but can have a prepositional phrase after it.
不及物动词后面不能直接加宾语,如果要加宾语必须在动词后面加上相应的介词。
(2) A transitive verb takes an object.
及物动词后面能直接加宾语。
(3) A linking verb links the subject and the adjective phrase or noun phrase that describes it.
系动词可以连接主语和修饰主语的形容词短语或名词短语。
系动词包括:be、become、feel、get、look、seem、sound、stay、smell、taste、turn 等。

The basic parts of a sentence are the subject (S), the verb (V) and the
object (O).
Usually a statement begins with the subject and the verb. We divide verbs
into three kinds: intransitive verbs (vi.), transitive verbs (vt.) and
linking verbs (linking v.).

2. 主语 + 谓语 + 宾语 (S+V+O)
① She (S) plans (V) to swim (O) on Monday (介词短语作状语).
② Tom (S) enjoys (V) playing football (O).
1. 主语 + 谓语 (S+V)
They (S) talked (V) for half an hour. (介词短语作状语).
3. 主语 + 系动词 + 表语 (S+V+P)
① This kind of food (S) tastes (V) delicious (P) (表特征).
② It (S) is getting (V) warmer and warmer (P)(表变化).
4. 主语 + 谓语 + 间接宾语 + 直接宾语 (S+V+IO+DO)
My father (S) bought (V) me (IO) a pen (DO).
5. 主语 + 谓语 + 宾语 + 宾语补足语 (S+V+DO+OC)
Dad (S) saw (V) Tom (DO) playing basketball (OC).

此处 the girl 和 an umbrella 分别是动词give 的间接宾语和直接宾语。

此处the weather和warm分别是宾语和宾语补足语。
特殊句型:There be+ 主语(+ 状语)。( 即there be 句型)
there be 句型表示“某处有某物/ 某人”,其中there 没有语义,be 为系动词,be 后面的名词为句子的主语。
