1. 并列连词 and, but, or 可以用来连接单词、短语或句子。
2. 含义及用法
(1)and 意为“和，并且”。
①表示并列、递进或顺承关系；
②用于“祈使句+and+陈述句”的结构中。
e.g. Work hard and you will get better grades.
努力学习，你的成绩就会更好。
并列连词
【注意】and 连接并列成分作主语时，谓语动词常用复数形式；若 and 连接的名词表达的是同一个人、 同一事物或概念的话，则两个名词共用一个限定词，谓语动词要用单数。当连接的并列主语前面有each、every、no修饰时，谓语动词用单数。
e.g. A knife and fork is on the table.
桌子上摆着一副刀叉。
No desk and chair was seen in the room.
教室里没有桌子和椅子。
(2)but 意为“但是”，表转折关系，所连接的成分意思往往相反或相对。
e.g.I had no choice but to sign the contract.
我别无选择，只好签了合同。
(3)or 意为“或者，否则”，表选择关系；用于“祈使句 +or+陈述句”的结构中，表示否则，要不然。
e.g. Is it a boy or a girl
是个男孩还是女孩

并列复合句
并列复合句是指由两个或两个以上的简单句构成连在一起而构成的句子。
1. 并列复合句的构成：
并列复合句的基本结构是：简单句 + 并列连词 + 简单句
I help him and he helps me.
我帮助他，他也帮助我。
2. 并列连词前后两个简单句之间的关系：
①并列关系。
They are watching TV, and the others are listening to the radio.
他们在看电视，其他人在听广播。
②选择关系。
The children can go with us, or they can stay at home.
孩子们可以跟我们走，也可以呆在家里。
③转折关系。
She was tired, but she did not stop working.
她累了，但她没有停止工作。
3.使用并列复合句要注意的几种情况
（1）并列复合句有时可不用连词，而用分号隔开（前后句之间的关系须相当紧密）
We fished all day; we did not catch a single fish.
我们钓了一整天鱼，但一条鱼都没有钓到。
（2）并列连词后面的简单句如果与前面的简单句有相同的部分，则相同的部分常可省略。

Summer camps
Summer camps for children are very popular in many countries. In Canada and the US, some of the summer camps are in the countryside or on lakes. Children stay there for one to four weeks and sleep in cabins. They do arts and crafts, and play sports or music. Sometimes they go for long walks in forests or trips on rivers or lakes. They learn many useful outdoor skills.
