【答案】17. B 18. A 19. A 20. A
【解析】
【原文】M: Hi, I’m Rick Steves. If you’ve been with us from the beginning, you’ll know that we began our tour in Amsterdam, walked our way through Germany and Austria, down into Italy, back up through Switzerland and this week we are in Paris. We won’t spend much time at the big attractions. In a tourist destination like Paris, even a new traveler knows to see the famous art museums of Paris and no one misses the Eiffel Tower. But we’re going to some of the places the average tourist misses. For instance, the best view in town may not be from the top of the Eiffe l Tower, but from the top of the Montparnasse Tower. The view includes the Eiffel Tower as well as everything else. It’s cheaper and easier to get up here. We can join a ride on a public bus. I like the views from Line 63. Or we can cruise through Paris in one of their river tour boats. To cover more territory, traffic and streets for you, I ride the subway. Many European cities have subway systems, the one in Paris is really amazing. You can go anywhere in town for a reasonable price. And don’t worry, getting lost is cheap. In fact, you could stay underground all day long on one ticket about the cost of a cup of coffee.

During my university years in the early 2000s, I worked part-time with kids at a neighborhood YMCA, which mainly focused on child care. Each year, we hosted a Christmas party for the community.
Most of the people working there were women, so we had to search for a male volunteer to play Santa Claus. We didn’t have many choices. John was a tall, twentyish man who was much too thin to be Santa Claus. No amount of stuffing (填充物) could possibly make him look like a common Santa Claus. He was, however, available.
On the day of the party, John put on his costume (戏装) and waited for the children. Many of the children who knew John said, “It’s just you, John.” If they didn’t know him, they said, “You’re too thin to be Santa.” We thought it might be a bad decision, but then everyone seemed to enjoy their time there, so it didn’t really matter.
Then, a lovely little girl entered the room. She was dressed beautifully to see Santa and seemed a little shy. Her mother brought her up to our Santa. “She’s deaf,” the mother explained. “If she could just sit on your lap (大腿) and have her picture taken, she would be happy.” John, the skinny Santa, smiled at the little girl, and she sat on his lap.
Then, the skinny Santa began using hand gestures to communicate with the girl fluently, and the little girl smiled happily and answered him quickly with her hands. Their conversation lasted quite a while. When I looked at the mother, I saw that she was crying. In fact, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room. Santa Claus really was there.
There was so much we didn’t know about what was happening. This girl had never met John before, and few of us were aware that he knew how to sign — it all added up to a magical surprise.
24. Why was John chosen to play Santa Claus
A. He was tall. B. He was male. C. He was young. D. He was popular.
25. What did people probably think of John’s playing Santa Claus at first
A. Disappointing. B. Interesting. C. Surprising. D. Inspiring.
26. What can we know about the little girl
A. She was talkative and lively. B. She often came to the child care.
C. She was friendly to other children. D. She expected to take pictures with Santa.
27. What contributed to the touching scene on that day
A. The little girl has a nice character. B. John’s knowledge of sign language.
C. The warm and friendly environment. D. The participation of the little girl’s mother.
【答案】24. B 25. A 26. D 27. B
根据第二段中“Most of the people working there were women, so we had to search for a male volunteer to play Santa Claus. We didn’t have many choices.(在那里工作的大多数人都是女性,所以我们不得不找一个男性志愿者来扮演圣诞老人。我们没有太多选择)”可知,John被选中扮演圣诞老人是因为他是男性。故选B。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Many of the children who knew John said, ‘It’s just you, John.’ If they didn’t know him, they said, ‘You’re too thin to be Santa.’(许多认识John的孩子说:‘是你啊,John。’如果他们不认识他,他们会说:‘你太瘦了,不适合做圣诞老人。’)”可知,不认识John的人看见他扮演圣诞老人会认为John太瘦而不适合,故一开始他们对于John扮演圣诞老人可能感到失望。故选A。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Her mother brought her up to our Santa. ‘She’s deaf,’ the mother explained. ‘If she could just sit on your lap (大腿) and have her picture taken, she would be happy.’(她妈妈带她去见圣诞老人。‘她聋了,’这位母亲解释说。‘如果她能坐在你腿上拍照,她会很开心的。’)”可知,小女孩期待和圣诞老人一起拍照。故选D。
【27题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“Then, the skinny Santa began using hand gestures to communicate with the girl fluently, and the little girl smiled happily and answered him quickly with her hands. Their conversation lasted quite a while. When I looked at the mother, I saw that she was crying. In fact, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room. Santa Claus really was there.(然后,瘦骨嶙峋的圣诞老人开始用手势和小女孩流利地交流,小女孩开心地笑了笑,很快地用手回答了他。他们的谈话持续了很长时间。当我看着母亲时,我看到她在哭。事实上,我想在场的每个人都泪眼婆娑。圣诞老人真的在那里)”和最后一段中“and few of us were aware that he knew how to sign — it all added up to a magical surprise(我们中很少有人知道他会手语——这一切加起来是一个神奇的惊喜)”可知,John扮演圣诞老人用手语和小女孩交流,使在场的每个人都深受感动,仿佛真的有圣诞老人,故是John的手语知识促成了这一感人的场景。故选B。
C
Japan’s biggest airline is betting that the future of travel isn’t traveling at all. For the last month, a married couple has been interacting with a robot—called an Avatar—that’s controlled by their daughter hundreds of miles away. Made by ANA Holdings Inc., it looks like a vacuum cleaner with an iPad attached. But the screen displays the daughter’s face as they chat, and its wheels let her move about the house as though she’s really there.
“Virtual travel” is nothing new, of course. Storytellers, travel writers and artists have been stimulating the senses of armchair tourists for centuries. It’s only in recent decades that frequent, safe travel has become available to the non- wealthy.
Yet even as the world’s middle classes climb out of the armchair and into economy-class seat, there are signs of a post-travel society emerging. Concerns about environmental sustainability cause loss to airlines which release much carbon. And the aging of abundant societies is both restricting physical travel and creating demand for alternative ways to experience the world. For the travel industry, virtual reality offers an attractive response to these trends.
Of course, new technologies encourage far-out claims. ANA doesn’t plan to start selling Avatars until next year. Profits, too, will probably be difficult to make: By one estimate, the global market for this kind of technology will be worth only about $300 million by 2023. By contrast, ANA’s traditional travel business brought in more than $19 billion last year.
But if the business value for virtual vacations is still weak, the market for technologies that bridge physical distances between families and coworkers seems likely to only expand. ANA’s robots may not replace its airplanes any time soon, but they’ll almost certainly be a part of travel’s high-tech future.
28. Why does the author use the example of a couple interacting with a robot
A. To show the Japanese are crazy about travel.
B. To indicate virtual travel begins to enter people’s real life.
C. To show the couple are very enthusiastic over robots.
D. To express the close relationship between the couple and their daughter.
29. Which of the following is the possible reason for virtual travel’s appearance
A. Storytellers, travel writers and artists have been using it for centuries.
B. Frequent and safe travel has become available to the ordinary people.
C. People are worried about the air pollution caused by airlines.
D. More and more people lose interest in travel.
30. What does the underlined word “sustainability” probably mean in the third paragraph
A. Visibility. B. Availability.
C. insignificance. D. Continuousness
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Your Next Travel May Be Virtual.
B. Easy Travel in the Future.
C. Virtual Travel Benefits.
D. Air Travel Disappearing.
【答案】28. B 29. C 30. D 31. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章主要探讨虚拟旅行的发展趋势,并分析新技术对旅游行业的影响。
【28题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第一段“Japan’s biggest airline is betting that the future of travel isn’t traveling at all. For the last month, a married couple has been interacting with a robot—called an Avatar—that’s controlled by their daughter hundreds of miles away. Made by ANA Holdings Inc., it looks like a vacuum cleaner with an iPad attached. But the screen displays the daughter’s face as they chat, and its wheels let her move about the house as though she’s really there.(这家日本最大的航空公司认为,未来的旅行根本不是旅行。
根据文章第三段“Concerns about environmental sustainability cause loss to airlines which release much carbon. And the aging of abundant societies is both restricting physical travel and creating demand for alternative ways to experience the world. For the travel industry, virtual reality offers an attractive response to these trends.(对环境可持续性的担忧给排放大量碳的航空公司造成了损失。
根据文章第一段“Japan’s biggest airline is betting that the future of travel isn’t traveling at all.(这家日本最大的航空公司认为,未来的旅行根本无需旅行。)”以及最后一段“But if the business value for virtual vacations is still weak, the market for technologies that bridge physical distances between families and coworkers seems likely to only expand. ANA’s robots may not replace its airplanes any time soon, but they’ll almost certainly be a part of travel’s high-tech future.(但是,如果虚拟假期的商业价值仍然很弱,那么在家庭和同事之间架起物理距离的技术市场似乎只会扩大。ANA的机器人可能不会很快取代它的飞机,但它们几乎肯定会成为未来高科技旅行的一部分。)”可知,文章主要探讨虚拟旅行的发展趋势。故选A。

Every time your fingers touch your cell phone, they leave behind traces of chemicals. And each chemical offers clues to you and your activities. By analyzing them. scientists might be able to piece together a story about your recent life, a new study finds.
A molecule is a group of atoms. It represents the smallest amount of some chemical. Your skin is covered in molecules picked up by everything you’ve touched. With each new thing your skin contacts, you leave behind some small share of what it’d touched earlier.
Researchers at the University of California. San Diego (UCSD)recently analyzed such chemical leftovers on the phones of 39 volunteers. The study was led by biochemist Amina Bouslimani. To explore those remains, the UCSD team wiped the surface of each volunteer’s phone with a cotton swab(药棉签). The scientists also swabbed each person’s right hand.
Then the researchers compared the chemicals found on each cell phone. The scientists discovered as many of the molecules as they could. They then compared these to a database of chemicals. Pieter Dorrestein. a UCSD pharmaceutical chemist, had helped set up that database a few years earlier, which contains various substances, including spices, caffeine and medicines.
Traces of anywhere from hundreds to thousands of different molecules turned up on each phone. The molecules reflected what had been in the body, and what each person had handled before touching the phone. From all these molecules, Bouslimani says. “We could tell if a person is likely female, uses high-end cosmetics, dyes her hair, drinks coffee, prefers beer over wine or likes spicy food.”
Police already use molecular analyses to look for traces of explosives or illegal drugs. To date, Dorrestein says. he’s never heard of police using phone remains to narrow down behavioral clues to search for a suspect. But detectives might one day use such data to track down someone who left a phone behind at a crime scene.
32. What can we conclude about the user by analyzing the leftovers on the phone
A. Personality. B. Intelligence. C. Appearance. D. Lifestyle.
33. What was the first thing needed to be done for the study
A. Comparing different chemicals. B. Hiring volunteers with cell phones.
C. Building a database containing chemicals. D. Collecting the chemicals from phones.
34. What’s the author’s attitude towards the application of the research finding
A. Uninterested. B. Disappointed. C. Doubtful. D. Positive.
35. What should be the best title for the text
A. Fingers Leave Clues about You on Your Phone
B. Your Phone May Be Home to Various Chemicals
C. Molecules Are Used to Search for Illegal Drugs
D. Cell Phones Will be Used in More Fields
【答案】32. D 33. C 34. D 35. A

Suffering from a phobia (恐惧症) is far from delightful. For adults, the phobia can seriously limit a person’s functioning. ____36____ If you or your child experiences a phobia, you may wish to try the following to reduce the distress surrounding it.
Name the fear.
____37____ Dr. Dan Siegel, clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA, summarizes this experience as “name it to tame it.” Pixar’s movie Monsters, Inc. illustrates this nicely as the monster in the closet becomes less scary when Boo names it Kitty.
____38____
Ask yourself whether the fear is sensible. Since many fears are groundless in nature, this step helps to reduce “worst-case scenario (方案)” thinking. It is important to note that while the percentage of many feared items happening is extremely remote, they are not necessarily 0 percent. Therefore, this step is often paired with finding a way to make peace with the feared item still existing in the world.
Safely face the fear.
This is demonstrated to be the most enduring way to put fears behind us. Any unhelpful reaction, especially avoidance, must be removed. It’s vital to set the stage for success by safely and gradually facing the feared item, step by step. For instance, if someone is afraid of snakes, picturing a snake in one’s mind comes first, then looking at a picture of the rattlesnake, and finally going to the zoo. ____39____ Not facing, or worse, avoiding fear tends to give it more power and make the phobia stronger over time.
In summary, it is perfectly natural and human to experience fears. ____40____ If a phobia lasts, it is always an option to seek the help of a mental health professional. Whatever you do, it is important not to let the fear consume you or your child’s life.
A. Analyze the fear.
B. Make peace with the fear.
C. Labeling the fear tends to reduce the power of the feared item.
D. For children, it leads to increased anxiety and may lead up to school avoidance.
E. These steps can be paired with relaxation strategies to limit the physiological fear response.
F. Generally speaking, the more a person seeks treatment for the phobia, the better the outcome.
G. However, when that fear becomes too much or fixed, it can prevent us from enjoying the joys or necessities of life.

This weekend, my classmates carried out a survey about white pollution or plastic pollution in the street.
Nearly all the people we interviewed agreed that it was really a serious problem facing the human beings and that we should take immediate action to tackle it. However, when it came to their action, it was a little letdown because few of them say no to single-use plastic whether in the supermarkets or in the restaurants.

第二节(满分 25 分)
67. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
Maybe there is a Father Christmas!
Anna stood anxiously staring at the pouring rain while little Molly looked up at a pretty doll in the window of the toy shop on the edge of town. "Mummy, "Molly said, "that's the doll I would like Father Christmas to bring me." A tear rolled down Anna's cheek and she knew it would be impossible this year. They were supposed to start a new life in Spain one and a half years ago before her husband Tim was cruelly taken from them by a car. Their small amount of savings were quickly spent on Tim’s funeral costs and necessities, leaving her in heavy debt.
To her relief, the local people had helped to support her through these difficult times and especially Juan, owner of the local grocery store, a single man, who would often put something special into her shopping bag, even though he himself had been going through a difficult period — his mother died of cancer and he was busy handling the sale of his mother’s house on the edge of town.
As the rain stopped, Anna and Molly started walking home. She was thinking about buying an umbrella after paying the rent with her upcoming wage when Molly shouted excitedly, "Mummy, what’s that on the road " Anna looked down and saw a bag lying in the water, which was obviously lost because of the sudden rain.
They got home and dried themselves before Anna focused on the bag. Opening it and seeing bundles of money inside, she stood back in shock and cried, "Is this a present from kindness I can pay off my debt, buy Molly’s favorite doll and my new umbrella ...” Then reality set in, Anna was a very moral person and would never steal even the slightest little thing, let alone bundles of money. She went to bed with all thoughts in her mind.
Paragraph 1:
Early next morning, Anna headed where she decided to go.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
At supper, Anna had an unexpected visitor—Juan with gift boxes in his hands.

【答案】Possible versions:
[1]
Anna walked directly to the police station. After figuring out what had happened, the policemen kept note of her information and thought highly of her. She felt a little shy and said, “The huge money would be a great help for me to get through the difficulties, but the owner would get into great trouble, instead.” Stepping out of the station, Anna felt a fresh breeze on her face, making her relieved and comfortable.
Seeing Anna's surprised look, Juan told her that he was the owner of the bag and he came to show his thanks. That morning, because of the sudden rain, he was so hurried to get on the taxi that he lost his bag. "Thank you so much for your help." Juan said to Anna and then turned to Molly, handing her the boxes "Here you are, little girl." After opening the boxes, Molly cried with great joy, "Mom, look! Here it is! The doll Father Christmas brings me!" Looking at her happy daughter, Anna smiled, murmuring "Maybe there is a Father Christmas!"
[2]
She held the bag tightly and walked firmly. “The owner must have had a tough night.” A quarter later, Anna found herself in the police station. She handed the bag to the receptionist and said, “I found this bag in the road yesterday. Maybe you can help to find its owner.” Seeing the bundles of money inside, the policeman said in great admiration to Anna, who was filling out the firm, “You must be an angel.”
“Juan You are...” Anna said in a confused voice. “Anna, I am the owner of the bag.” Juan said gratefully. “What a coincidence!” Anna exclaimed! Juan went on explaining that he had just sold his mother’s house on the edge of town to pay for his mother’s treatment. “I don’t know how to show my thankfulness. And these are for you and Molly. May you merry Christmas.” Later in the night, Molly exclaimed in great excitement when she was unwrapping the box--it was the very doll she wanted! Anna smiled, “Maybe there is a Father Christmas!”
[3]
She walked fast but gracefully to the destination, bathed in the warm sunshine. As a moral person, honesty and justice always dominated her. She would always follow her heart even in heavy debt. On arriving there, she told the police what had happened on that dark and stormy night and handed in the massive amount of money. Two policemen kept necessary records seriously, spoke highly of her and promised to find its owner as soon as possible. A deep sense of pride flooded over Anna when she left the station and headed for work.
Anna invited him in and Molly greeted him happily. After being seated there, Juan explained he was almost crushed when he found his money missing. It was Anna’s selfless behavior that lighted up his world. Throwing them a warm smile, Juan handed them gifts. Unwrapping the gifts, Molly cried out of joy, “The pretty doll in the window. Father Christmas!” Juan hugged Molly, giving her a kind and fatherly look. At the very moment, they seemed like and might be one family.
[4]
With the money carefully packed in her handbag, she quickened her pace. On arrival at the police station, she briefly told the officer what had happened and hoped they could help find the owner. Police officer noted down her information. Leaving the station, she felt a fresh wind on her face, a sense of satisfaction filling her, even greater than paying off her debts and buying the doll for Molly.
Seeing so many gifts, she politely declined, “You’ve already helped me a lot.” "But you deserve more!" said Juan. It turned out that Juan was the owner of the money. He finally sold his mother's house but he lost the money on the way back because of the sudden rain. Thanks to Anna's help, he got the money back. At the very moment, Molly, who was unwrapping the gift, let out a cry of joy, “Mummy, it’s the doll! Uncle Juan must have met Father Christmas!” Anna nodded, “Yes, my dear”, looking into Juan’s eyes and smiling.
[5]
That’s where they found the bag last night. She held the “Lost and Found” board she prepared beforehand, looking around anxiously. Soon after, she saw Juan was coming up. “Hello, Anna. I finished the sale of my mother’s house yesterday, but I realized I lost the bag of money this morning. I wonder whether...” “Oh, yes, how much money in it then ” After making sure of the right owner, Anna returned the money to Juan.
“Hello, Juan, welcome!” Anna smiled shyly. “Hi, Molly, this is for you.” Juan handed in the bigger box. “Is it from Father Christmas ” “Sure!” Anna and Juan responded almost at the same time. At the sight of the doll she had been dreaming of, Molly grinned. “Thank you, Father Christmas!” Anna whispered to Juan gratefully.
(Then Juan passed the smaller box to Anna. Opening the box, Anna’s face flushed red. “If I make a proposal to your mom, what would you say, dear Molly ” “Well...,” Molly nodded her opinion with a smile.)

30 What does the underlined word “sustainability” probably mean in the third paragraph
A. Visibility. B. Availability.
C. insignificance. D. Continuousness
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Your Next Travel May Be Virtual.
B. Easy Travel in the Future.
C. Virtual Travel Benefits.
D. Air Travel Disappearing.

Suffering from a phobia (恐惧症) is far from delightful. For adults the phobia can seriously limit a person’s functioning.

Opening it and seeing bundles of money inside she stood back in shock and cried, "Is this a present from kindness I can pay off my debt, buy Molly’s favorite doll and my new umbrella ...” Then reality set in, Anna was a very moral person and would never steal even the slightest little thing, let alone bundles of money. She went to bed with all thoughts in her mind.
Paragraph 1:
Early next morning, Anna headed where she decided to go.

At supper, Anna had an unexpected visitor—Juan with gift boxes in his hands.
