情态动词本身有一定的含义，为谓语动词增添情态色彩，表示说话人对有关行为或事物的态度和看法，认为其可能、应该或必要等，一般无人称和数的变化，后面接的动词需用原形，否定式是在情态动词后面加 not。我们学过的can 和 may 都属于这类词。

当我们想表达可能发生某事以及某人可能做某事时，可以用 may/might 。
情态动词may/might表示“可能”
①might 与may 没有太大的区别，形式上might 是may 的过去式，但在表示将来的可能情况时，might 表示的可能性比may 表示的可能性还要小。它们的否定形式分别是may not和might not。。

②may/might可以表示请求许可或者许可别人。

③may/might as well后跟不带to的不定式，意为“不妨”。
If that is the case, we may/might as well try.
如果情况这样的话，我们不妨试一试。
④英语中表示可能的方式有很多，除使用情态动词 may/might 以外，还可以通过 will 以及表示“可能”的形容词和副词表达，常用的有：
It is possible to do sth./ It is possible that...
主语+will probably/possibly +v.
