Evelyn Topper likely dropped her wallet when she and her granddaughter, Mikayla Gounard, were leaving a local coffee shop in San Rafael, California, but Topper didn’t realize it was missing until she got home. With her credit card, money, and medical card gone, she was understandably upset.
The next day, however, Topper got a call that put her mind at rest. Sean Curry had found the wallet in a trashcan behind the coffee shop. Except for the cash, its contents were intact Even though he’d been homeless for five years, rather than take advantage of the opportunity, Curry reached out to Topper.
While Topper praised his behavior and declared (宣称) it a mitzvah, a good deed that’s performed with a good heart simply because it’s the right thing to do, Curry didn’t believe he’d done anything out of the ordinary. He’d done it, he explained in an interview with NBC, because that was the way he was brought up.
What Curry didn’t know, however, was that there was a surprise in store for him. Mikayla Gounard had already planned a socially distant “drive-by” party for her upcoming 12th birthday. Rather than presents, shed decided to ask for contributions to be donated to charity in her name.
Gounard hadn’t yet chosen which charity the money would go to, but after learning more about the man who’d so selflessly returned her grandmother’s wallet, the choice seemed obvious.
It was Gounard’s turn to set her own mitzvah in motion. On the day of her party, the 12-year-old girl placed a photo of Curry and a collection basket next to balloons and party favors on an outdoor table in the driveway. By the end of her “Happy Birthday!” party, she had raised several hundred dollars. When Gounard and her mom met up with Curry the next day and gave him the money, he admitted that he was truly touched by the heartwarming gesture. Rather than merely pay lip service to a mitzvah, like Curry, Gounard chose to make another good deed happen — because she knew it was the right thing to do.
4. What can we know about Sean Curry
A. He witnessed the theft of Topper’s wallet.
B. He discovered Topper’s non-cash property.
C. He enjoyed wandering around coffee shops.
D. He called Topper to comfort her for her loss.
5. How did Curry react to Topper’s comment on his behavior
A. By turning his attention to his lifestyle.
B. By choosing to put it on social media.
C. By approving of her idea about a mitzvah.
D. By putting less value on what he had done.
6. What does the underlined part “a surprise” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A. An unexpected party.
B. A charity sale in Curry’s name.
C. The spread of Curry’s good deed.
D. A generous donation from Gounard.
7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text

根据第二段中“Sean Curry had found the wallet in a trashcan behind the coffee shop. Except for the cash, its contents were intact

根据第四段中“Rather than presents, shed decided to ask for contributions to be donated to charity in her name. (她决定以她的名义向慈善机构捐款,而不是送礼物。)”和最后一段中“By the end of her “Happy Birthday!” party, she had raised several hundred dollars. When Gounard and her mom met up with Curry the next day and gave him the money, he admitted that he was truly touched by the heartwarming gesture.
故选A项。

As the world's resources become rarer because of continuing land development and the growing human population, the natural habitats of wild animals have continued to decrease. As a result, the survival of some species of wildlife is threatened. To help protect wildlife, a lot of practices should be carried out by environmentalist as well as the general public.

Once the young animals grow up, they can be set free into the wild where they can continue to increase the population.
The general public may not realize that a species is endangered until it's too late. Educational programs making use of TV advertising and instructional meetings at national parks can be used to make the public know the situation.

They should also stop supporting those who earn money from the illegal hunting of wild animals, such as hunters who kill animals for the only purpose of harvesting their body parts and selling them for money.

Blake and Allison are twins. Every year, I gave them birthday presents. But they always felt unhappy about not receiving something on their wish list.
I knew I had somewhat spoiled(宠坏)them, but I had no idea it was this bad . I was in shock. How self-centered and unappreciative could my children be
I was determined to do something.
I found a family living on a farm that badly needed help. There were four children in the family aged from three to eight. I began to visit them every two months.
Soon, Allison and Blake’s birthday was drawing near. I decided to introduce them to the new friends. One day, I woke the kids early and drove them to the farm.
When we arrived, I told my children to take two bags off the car, of which one was filled with food and the other with many boxes full of presents my children would never be satisfied with.
We were welcomed inside with smiles and appreciation. Obviously, Alison and Blake were shocked by what they saw. I could guess they had never expected people would live such a difficult life.
“Look! Presents for you. ”Allison was trying to make the kids happier.
With their parents’ permission(允许), the kids began to pick the boxes up, shake them, and guess what was inside. They were so excited. Allison and Blake encouraged the kids to open the boxes. They did. And there were shouts of surprise and joy: a model car, chocolate …then laughter. Then grateful hugs(拥抱)and sincere “thank-yous” .
At first Alison and Blake looked confused but soon joined the children. Before long, they were laughing, too, proud that they brought happiness there.
On the way home Alison and Blake were a little quiet. When it was time to go to bed that day, my kids hugged me and said, “Thank you, Mum. ”

The next year, with their birthday nearing, I asked Alison and Blake what presents they wanted. Alison and Blake exchanged a glance and said, “Mum, we want something special this time. ”They asked for my permission to shop the presents themselves. Strange as it sounded, I nodded. So on that special day, we visited the supermarket together. To my surprise, they chose items I had never expected:shoes, gloves, pens … I sensed something unusual. With everything ready, Alison asked whether they could celebrate their birthday with our new friends together.
I agreed and offered to drive them to the farm. I reminded them to call their friends first. After that we headed for our destination. The moment we arrived, the whole family rushed to meet us. My children got all the bags into the house, opened them, and unfolded all the gifts. It was then that our friends learned all Alison and Blake brought were gifts for them. Seeing the various gifts, they were moved to tears. I realized my children would never be selfish and unappreciative again.

Spending time outdoors has long been linked (联系) to better health. Gardening goes beyond just beautifying outdoor spaces—it can have a deep effect on our physical and mental (身心上的) health.
Gardening involves physical activity that works all the main muscle (肌肉) groups, which is helpful for overall health. “Activities such as digging, planting, weeding and harvesting require movement and can help to improve strength,” said Clayton, CEO of an online lawn care company. “Performing these activities regularly can help burn calories, and keep a healthy weight.”
Beyond burning calories and building muscle, lots of studies have shown that gardening can improve the immune system The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people get at least 150 minutes of exercise each week, and gardening is listed as a suitable activity. Doing garden work for that time each week can reduce the risk of obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease. Additionally, spending time outdoors makes us get close to natural sunlight, which is important for vitamin D synth.
Gardening provides a chance for social connection, too. It can be a shared activity among family members, friends or neighbors, building relationships and a sense of belonging.
Gardening also offers cognitive (认知的) benefits. It excites the senses, improves focus and encourages problem-solving and creativity. It provides a chance to learn about plants, ecosystems and the environment, developing a deeper understanding and appreciation for nature.

As the world's resources become rarer because of continuing land development and the growing human population, the natural habitats of wild animals have continued to decrease. As a result, the survival of some species of wildlife is threatened. To help protect wildlife, a lot of practices should be carried out by environmentalist as well as the general public.
Create homes for species that are endangered because of losing their own natural habitats. Wildlife shelters should be developed, and habitats should be created in existing(现存的) national parks. Efforts(努力) should also be made to protect existing habits, such as providing food and water sources and limiting hunting. Breed(培育) endangered species in places such as zoos. Once the young animals grow up, they can be set free into the wild where they can continue to increase the population.
The general public may not realize that a species is endangered until it's too late. Educational programs making use of TV advertising and instructional meetings at national parks can be used to make the public know the situation.
The general public can help protect the wildlife by not hunting wild animals for sport or for a source of food. They should also stop supporting those who earn money from the illegal hunting of wild animals, such as hunters who kill animals for the only purpose of harvesting their body parts and selling them for money.

“Is this allIgot ” asked my daughter, Allison. “I asked for a new cellphone!”
“What kind of birthday is this ” asked my son, Blake.
On the way home, Alison and Blake were a little quiet. When it was time to go to bed that day, my kids hugged me and said, “Thank you, Mum. ”
