Climate (气候) change brings not only hot days and heavy rain but also more extreme (极端的) weather. The world’s food may be in greater danger. And more and more people will live with food crisis (危机).
In some countries in Europe (欧洲), warmer weather helps plants grow better. There is more carbon dioxide (二氧化碳), so the plants can grow faster. But if the Earth keeps getting warm, it will be too hot for those plants and they may die.
Climate change also causes disasters like droughts (干旱) and floods. Millions of people may lose their homes and not have enough to eat. According to the World Bank, people in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia are in the biggest danger.
A new report on the global food crisis came out in May, 2023. It shows that a larger number of people are facing food crisis and global warming makes it worse. According to the report, about 258 million people in 58 countries and regions (地区) faced big food problems in 2022. The report also says extreme weather caused around 56 million people to face hunger problems in 2022.

Do you drink milk every day We all know that milk is good for our health. But is that the whole Let’s take a closer look!
Milk might be one of the best things we can drink. It has a lot of nutrients (营养物质) to help children grow. It’s rich in calcium (钙) and vitamins (维他命). Calcium gives us strong bones (骨骼). Doctors say that milk is also good for our teeth and heart. And a glass of warm milk helps us get a good night’s sleep. Milk is great!
However, some studies show that milk may cause some health problems. For example, drinking a lot of milk (three or more times a day) may make children obese (肥胖的), Live Science reported. Also, milk might not actually make our bones stronger. Scientists found that some people who drank more milk also had more broken bones.
So should we still drink milk Milk may not be a super food. But it does give us a lot of nutrients. Drink milk if you like it, but not because you think it is the best thing for your health.

Click: Hi, McCall. I saw you on TV this morning. In your weather report, you said it was going to rain. I looked out of my window, and it was sunny then. But on my way here, it started raining! How did you know it would rain
McCall: That’s my job, Click. Every day I study weather maps and weather data (数据) about air temperature, wind, clouds, how dry the air feels, and more. That helps me understand what the weather will be like in the next hours, days, and weeks.
Click: You have to go on TV and tell people what is going to happen before it happens.

Click: But why is it important to predict the weather It will still rain whether you tell us ahead of time or not.
McCall: Weather is something that affects (影响) everyone. Snow, sun, wind, and rain can all change your plans.
Click: Oh, I get it. My neighbor might not drive his car far if he knows it’ll snow. Or I might plan a picnic if it’s warm and sunny.
McCall: Right. So I tell people what’s happening now, what will happen in the days ahead, and what to do if a big storm is on the way. Look, you can see how the weather is changing on this map.
Click: That’s not a map, McCall. That’s just a big green wall.
McCall: Look at that TV, Click.
Click: Whoa! On the TV, I see you in front of a map, but there isn’t really a map behind you.
McCall: TV meteorologists often work in front of a green screen. The camera takes all the green behind the meteorologist and puts pictures there in its place.
Click: Wait! Then how do you know where to point on the map when you are really just pointing at this blank (空白的) green screen
McCall: I have a TV in front of me and one on each side. The TVs show me what I look like with my weather map behind me. I look at them to help me know where to point. It takes practice, but it’s a lot of fun.

When you receive an invitation from others, please make sure if there is an RSVP on it. Some people may ask, “What is an RSVP ” In fact, it is a short form (形式) of French words “Respondez sil vous plait”. It means that the sender wants to know if you’ll go to their event and you’re expected to give your answer. If you receive an invitation with an RSVP on it, you should reply to the host as soon as possible.
Many people don’t RSVP because they think it might upset the host if their answer is “No.” However, this usually causes more trouble than a simple no. For example, if the host is unclear about the number of the guests, they won’t know how much food to order or how many seats to prepare.
A reasonable (合理的) RSVP often has a deadline (最终期限), which is about two or four weeks before the event. If you want to go to the event but can’t be sure about it, it’s best to refuse. You can tell the host what makes you not sure about your coming.
Usually, invitation with an RSVP will tell you how to reply. A formal (正式的) invitation, such as a wedding invitation, will have a reply card that you can return in an envelope (信封). You can write your answer on the reply card. Informal invitations, on the other hand, may have a telephone number, an email address, texting address, or other ways to reply, with instructions. The most important thing is that if you say you’ll go to the event, you should keep your promise.

22.Why don’t many people RSVP according to Paragraph 2

At that time I realized I didn’t hear any snoring (鼾声) for a long time. My lovely dog, Snoopy, had died over a year before. As she got older and her health got worse, she started to snore loudly when she slept. At first, I found her snoring annoying (恼人的). Her snoring made it even harder for me to fall asleep myself. Yet, as time passed, it became pleasing. She became my personal white noise machine. When I woke up during the night, her snoring would make me feel comfortable and make me sleep easily.

A mind map is basically a tool that connects information around a central subject. It can help you make a bank of knowledge to solve problems. A student recently said, “I thought mind mapping would take a lot of time to do but in fact it saves me time. I don’t have to read my notes over and over again.”
How to make a mind map Now follow these steps for making wonderful mind maps.
Start in the center of a page. Why Because starting the center lets your brain spread out in all directions and express itself more freely and naturally.
Use a picture for your central idea. Why Because a picture is worth a thousand words and helps you use your imagination. A central picture is more interesting. It helps get your attention and makes you work more excitedly!
Connect your main branches (分支)to the central picture and connect your second-and third-level branches to the first and second levels, etc. Why Because your brain works by connection. It likes to connect two, or three, or four things together. If you connect the branches, you will understand and remember a lot more easily.
Use one key word every line. Why Because every single key word can make you learn more clearly and easily.
Use pictures as many as possible. Why Because each picture, just like the central picture, is also worth a thousand words. So, if you have 10 pictures in your mind map, they are already worth 10, 000 words of notes.

Money may not buy happiness, but it helps. Many teenagers want to learn how to manage money before going out into the world. Be smart with your money. This idea is raised by Dr. Mara Harvey, a money expert. The following are some of her tips.
Learn to make money. Ask parents or neighbors if you can do chores to make pocket money. These could include washing a car or taking the dog for a walk. Agree on the value of different jobs before you start. In this way, you can also improve your communication skills, which will help when you have a grown-up job, too.
Help your money grow. Money can’t grow if it’s sitting inside a piggy bank. Put your money in the bank and you can get interest (利息). Save your money in the long run. One day you may feel surprised at how much money you have.
Make a plan. If you have a big event, such as a holiday coming up, it might mean you will need to spend more of your pocket money. Try making a plan for spending and saving. Write down how much money you have and what you are spending. Then it will help you to control your money.
Spend your money wisely. Figure out (算出) how much you can reasonably (合理地) spend each month. Spend your money on what you truly need. Then try to cut down on spending. For example, rather than eating out, you can choose to cook at home.

How do animals sleep Most people think they sleep in the same way as us. In fact, the ways they sleep are much more different—they can lie down, sit or stand while they sleep.
Swiss scientists did a study on 250 different mammals (哺乳动物). They found that the animals’ sleeping postures (姿势) had something to do with their size and weight. Small animals with short legs sleep on their stomachs. Their body shape is perfect for this posture. They also like to put their legs under their bodies. Rabbits and cats sleep this way. But larger animals sleep differently. They lie on their sides. That’s because this is more comfortable for their longer legs. Cows and hippos often sleep like this.
However, there are exceptions. Small animals such as mice sometimes sit down to take a short nap. Some large animals such as horses, zebras and giraffes sleep standing up.
