4 places for the Best Easter Holidays
When the kids break up from school it can be difficult to choose what to do to keep them entertained and make the most of family time. With the Easter Holidays just around the corner, here are four different places to inspire you to make the most of the break, whatever your age…
Bristol
Travel to the southwest to explore busy Bristol. It has got more than enough to keep the whole family entertained no matter what they like to get up to. The iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge boasts some of the best views in Bristol. There are also fascinating museums, amazing parks for picnics and games, and even a surf centre nearby.
York
York is the perfect Easter Holiday destination. Going with grandparents, they'll love stopping for an afternoon tea at one of the many historic hotels. Marvel at the majesty of York Minister and the medieval city walls. Or learn about the diverse history of this amazing city at one of the museums, from its start as a Roman settlement, through the Viking ages as Jorvik, to its current day.
Caernarfon Castle
This magnificent fortress was built on the Welsh coastline in the 13th century. Caernarfon Castle is a historic paradise for children, alive with towers to climb, city walls to march along, and(with imagination)princes and princesses to rescue.
Dunham Massey Deer Park
Located in Cheshire, Dunham Massey Deer Park is the ideal spot for a walk on the wild side. Deer isn't the only animal attraction here. From owls and woodpeckers to bats and rare species of beetles, there are loads to keep people of all ages fascinated. You can even bring the family dog, as long as they're kept on a lead.

Swimming is well known to offer many health benefits, including building endurance and muscle strength. But what about swimming in icy cold water This might not sound very appealing, but there's evidence that it can actually be good for us.
Cold-water swimming is also called wild swimming, where people swim in natural bodies of water such as ponds, rivers, and the sea. Although jumping in might give a quick shock to the body, many enthusiasts claim they get used to it over time. In fact, research has found it to have many physical and mental benefits.
Apart from being a great way to exercise, spending time in the outdoors and near water can improve overall wellbeing. There's plenty of anecdotal(传闻的)evidence suggesting that cold-water swimming has cured people's illness, ranging from pain relief to an overall sense of feeling amazed.
One reason why getting into cold water might be beneficial is that it causes a stress response in the body. The more people do it, the better their reaction to stress becomes. Additionally, some experts believe that cold-water swimming helps the body prepare for other forms of stress by adapting to similar stressors. For example, it also helps reduce the stress of exercising at high altitudes.
People who want to try cold-water swimming should approach it with caution, swim with a friend if possible, and start during the summer when the temperatures are warmer. It might not be for everyone, but for those willing to take risks, the extra health benefits might be worth it.
4. What are some physical benefits of cold-water swimming
A. Building endurance and muscle strength.
B. Greater lung capacity and building endurance.
C. Improved joint mobility and muscle strength.
D. Increased muscle flexibility and greater lung capacity.
5. What is the anecdotal evidence about cold-water swimming

B. It can be dangerous and should not be attempted.
C. People feel amazed after doing cold-water swimming.
D. Doctors recommend cold-water swimming for everyone.

C. Adapting to similar stressors D. Building muscle strength.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. The Health Benefits of Swimming.

When Kurt Benirschke started collecting skin samples from endangered animals in 1972, he didn't have a firm plan on what to do with them. As a researcher at the University of California San Diego, he believed that one day the tools would be developed to save those animals.
A few years later, he moved his collection to San Diego Zoo, and called it the Frozen Zoo. Today, the Frozen Zoo is the world's largest animal cryobank, with samples from over 10, 500 individual animals from 1,220 species.
Since the Frozen Zoo was founded, many milestones have been reached in the field of genetics, starting with the cloning of the first animal—a sheep named Dolly—in 1996.
Starting in 2001, four endangered species have been cloned using genetic material from the Frozen Zoo: the Indian Gaur, a humpbacked Asian wild ox; the Banteng, a Southeast-Asian species of cattle; Przewalski's horse, once found throughout Mongolia and extinct in the wild until recently; and the Black-footed ferret, which was believed to be extinct in the wild until it resurfaced in 1981, but was then almost wiped out by an epidemic.
Although cloning isn't perfect, it's a useful tool to help save endangered species, because it can increase genetic diversity. When the population of a species decline, the remaining animals are forced to inbreed and the genetic pool shrinks, further threatening survival. In a species of animals, the genetic diversity is what gives it its resilience(快速恢复能力).

C. Scientists have cloned 10,500 individual species successfully.
D. Scientists have protected 1,220 endangered animals successfully.
11. What is the author's attitude toward cloning
A. Anxious. B. Worried. C. Supportive. D. Doubtful.

In Greece, a culture guide named Persephone welcomes travelers to the Alistrati Cave. Persephone is a human-sized robot that can smoothly guide tourists through the first 150 meters of the cave, talking about it in 33 different languages. However, it can only answer 33 questions in Greek. After the first part of the tour, a human guide takes over for the remaining 750 meters.
Nikos Kartalis, the scientific director of the Alistrati site, came up with the idea of creating a robot guide after seeing one on television at an art show. The robot was built by the National Technology and Research Foundation and cost around 139,000 dollars. The creators are considering ways to increase its speed, as it can only guide visitors to the first three of eight stops. Nonetheless, many foreign visitors find it fascinating that Greece has the ability to build a robot and use it as a guide in the cave.
Persephone has a white body, black head, and two bright eyes, moving on wheels. It starts the tour by introducing itself: "My name is Persephone. I welcome you to the Alistrati Cave." It has become a popular attraction, with some visitors coming back to see the robot guide again.
Evdokia Karafera, a human guide who partners with Persephone, finds it helpful that it can speak many languages. She notes a little delay in the touring but most find it fascinating. However, Karafera believes that robots cannot replace humans everywhere, even though they may take over many jobs in the future.
Overall, Persephone the robot guide is a great example of how technology can enhance tourism experiences.

第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
Staying Safe in a Vehicle
Wildfires are common in dry, hot climates, but they can happen anywhere. 16 If you ever find yourself facing the threat of a wildfire, it's important to know what to do to ensure that you and your family remain safe in a vehicle.
Ensure that you can breathe. Once you're in a car, you'll need to ensure that the car is safely sealed from the smoke surrounding you. 17
Drive if you can. If the vehicle runs and you're capable of driving it, then do so. But it's important to drive slowly and keep your headlights on, so that you can see your surroundings and anyone else on the road can see you. 18 If the smoke is too thick to see, it may be safer to park and wait it out.
Remain in the vehicle. If the smoke is too thick to see the road, or if you cannot drive the car for any reason, you should remain in the vehicle. 19 You will be more likely to be injured or killed by leaving the vehicle than you would be if you remained inside.
Know what to expect. 20 Just remember that no matter what happens, if the fire surrounds the car you should not leave the vehicle. The temperature inside the vehicle will increase considerably. Don't worry- it's still safer inside the vehicle than outside.
A. Don't drive through heavy traffic.
B. Don't drive through heavy smoke.
C. You need to break a window to enter the vehicle.
D. It's important to know what to expect so that you do not panic.
E. Most wildfires start small, often from human causes, but spread very quickly.
F. This is crucial, since you will otherwise risk passing out from carbon monoxide(一氧化物).
G. You can lie down on the floor of the vehicle and cover yourself with a blanket or coat, if possible.

There is a story from many years ago of a middle school teacher. Her name was Mrs. Thompson. As she stood in front of the class on the very first day of school, she told the children a lie. Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same.
But that was impossible because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a boy named Teddy Stoddard.
Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that Teddy didn't show much interest in school and didn't play well with the other students. What was worse, it seemed that he cared about nothing.
One day as Teddy and Henry, one of his classmate, were going home after school, they saw two young people fighting in the street corner. Henry said excitedly, "Some people are fighting! Let's go and have a look!" But Teddy refused, "It's none of our business. We'd better go home and don't get close to them. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don't want them to worry about me."
"You are a coward, and afraid to go," said Henry angrily, and off he ran to the spot with some other boys. Teddy had to go home alone and didn't think about it anymore.
But Henry thought Teddy was a coward and told all the boys that. They laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Teddy and didn't want to play with him.

Dear Peter,
Knowing that you are enthusiastic about Chinese traditional culture but confused about which course to take, I am writing to share my opinion.
I think it is meaningful to learn Yingge Dance, which combines drama, martial arts, dance and other art forms. It is a form of Chinese folk dance originating from the Ming Dynasty. Besides, Yingge Dance is based on the story of “Water Margin”, a great novel in China, which tells the story of 108 heroes from liangshan.
I would be more than happy if you could come to China and enjoy Yingge Dance.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
What happened next changed Mrs.Thompson and his classmates attitude towards Teddy. A long distance race was held in the city. To our surprise, Teddy took part in it. That day, he ran as soon as possible, wishing to get the first place. However, he saw Henry in front of him crying in pain. Teddy stopped to help him. At first, Teddy took his arm to see if he could walk forward with aid, but he couldn’t. Then Teddy bent down to let Henry climb onto his back and carried him all the way to the finishing line.
After that, Mrs. Thompson paid particular attention to him. As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the more progress he made. By the end of the year, Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class. A year later, she got a call from Teddy, saying that Mrs.Thompson made him feel confident and she was the best teacher he ever had in his whole life. Hearing that, Mrs.Thompson’s face wore a satisfied expression.
