except=but : not including, 除…之外，不包括它们的宾语
besides: in addition to , as well as
除…之外还有，包括它的宾语
eg: · The teacher praised everyone except/but Mary.

· The teacher praised everyone besides Mary
老师赞扬了包括玛丽在内的每一个人。
