Over the South Pole
The climate of the South Pole is terrible ,so it’s very difficult and dangerous to cover, but an American explorer flew over it successfully in 1929. Let’s see how he flew over the South Pole.

1. can, could 和be able to都可以表达能力. can 和 could 都可以用
来提出请求或获得许可; be able to只能表达能力, 不能表达请求
或许可;
2. can 可以用于表达不久的将来的能力, can 只有一般现现在时和一
般过去时(could), 而be able to 有各种时态;
3. could 和was / were able to可以表达过去的能力;
4. 当表达在过去通过努力而成功地完成了某件事情, 要使用was /
were able to, 而不能使用could, 但如果不成功, 则could 和was /
were able to 均可;
