Home to the world’s second biggest freshwater lake, as well as its longest lake, Africa hosts some of the best lakes on the planet. Here are some of our picks:
Lake Assal, Djibouti
Sitting at 155 meters below sea level, Lake Assal is in Africa’s lowest point. Its salt levels are 10 times greater than the sea. As such it is also the world’s largest salt reserve (储备量). Visitors will note there is no wildlife around due to its unfriendly desert climate and super salty water.
Lake Retba, Senegal
Photography fans will love Lake Retba for its breathtaking scenery. Also called the Pink Lake of Senegal, it is an impressive pink-colored lake. The color comes from a type of algae (海藻) that grows because of the large amount of salt in the lake. To see the lake at its most pink, you’ll want to visit during the November to June dry season.
Lake Turkana, Kenya
Lake Turkana is the largest long-lasting desert lake in the world, as well as its fourth-largest salt lake. Lake Turkana is most famous for the vapor rising out of the active volcano (火山) within it. A dream place for bird-watchers, it is home to hundreds of bird species that are only found in Kenya.
11. What makes Lake Retba pink-colored
A. Its depth. B. The desert climate.
C. Its amount of salt. D. A certain sea-plant.
12. What is Lake Turkana most famous for

I’ve lived in Cardigan Bay(卡迪根海湾) in West Wales since I was a few months old. You’ve got everything you need here. Hills, stunning beaches, nice coastal paths. As someone who loves the countryside, I’ve never wanted to leave.
I was lucky to find work I could do in this area. A lot of people do have to move away in order to find work. I started Adventure Beyond here about 30 years ago and we work all over the UK. We go up to Scotland, we work along the Thames. We’ve also taken groups to Canada, the Himalayas, places like that. But honestly, West Wales has got everything. We can do everything we need right here.
Cardigan Bay is pretty huge, but I find having grown up here there’s a definite sense of place. There’s an awareness that we’re lucky to have these incredible sandy beaches, pebbly beaches, beautiful rivers, hills. It’s peaceful, and it’s not overdeveloped. Of course, there’re periods when it gets busy, but then the second schools go back and you pretty much get the beaches to yourself. There is a sense of community (群体) too, with a lot of good community-based clubs, such as the Poppit Sands Surf Lifesaving Club.
I set up Adventure Beyond to make my own work in the area. I love the outdoors, and I wanted to be in Cardigan Bay, so it was perfect. I’ve tried to always keep that personal touch. The clients (客户) will pretty much always meet myself and all the staff. We took a lot of people on through the Kickstart scheme (启动计划) and they’ve been employed with us for a few years. A lot of our clients have been with us since we started, too. There’s a sense of family, which is quite special.
I won’t mention a specific favorite place, but in general the beaches are just amazing. It’s just a sort of wild west, really.
18. What is Adventure Beyond
A. A travel agency. B. A government program.
C. An outdoor activity center. D. A community-based club.
19. What is Cardigan Bay like in the author’s eyes
A. It gives a sense of belonging. B. It’s undeveloped but peaceful.
C. Its beauty hasn’t been noticed. D. It has the best beaches in the world.
20. What does the underlined “it” refer to
A. Keeping that personal touch. B. Getting the beaches back to the locals.
C. Enjoying outdoor activities with clients. D. Starting Adventure Beyond in Cardigan Bay.
21. What is the text mainly about
A. The author’s simple life in Cardigan Bay. B. The author’s deep love for Cardigan Bay.
C. The author’s exploration of Cardigan Bay. D. The author’s hope for the future Cardigan Bay.
【答案】18. C 19. A 20. D 21. B

【21题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“I won’t mention a specific favorite place, but in general the beaches are just amazing. It’s just a sort of wild west, really.(我不会提到一个特别喜欢的地方,但总的来说,海滩真是太棒了。这就像一个狂野的西部,真的)”结合文章主要讲述了作者对于卡迪根海湾的喜爱之情,卡迪根海湾给了作者归属感,并且可以让作者从事自己喜欢的户外活动。由此可知,文章主要讲述了作者对卡迪根海湾的深爱。故选B。

The printed book is back. Recent studies have shown that students remember more information when they read a paper book compared to reading an e-book. One school responded to these findings by ditching its e-readers. The students found that “the ease of navigation (导航)” was greater when using a traditional book.
I love the way we now judge printed books using the language of the digital world. E-books may come with “navigational tools,” but it turns out the best navigational tools are the “devices” at the ends of your arms. You can use them to flip the pages forward and backward.
Fans of digital books may point out that e-readers have a handy “search” tool. Old-fashioned books also have a search function, in which you turn back to the opening part to help you remember the hero’s name. They even have a “bookmark system,” which uses something called a “bookmark.”
Can a traditional book offer all the features of an e-book Alas, no. It has no “progress bar (进度条)” indicating how much of the book has been read. Luckily, a clever tip is available: turn your book so that it can be viewed from the side or top. It will naturally form two parts joined in the middle. If the left part is thicker than the right one, you are more than halfway through.
Admittedly, e-books are lighter than paper books, but one must question whether this is really an advantage. In secondary school my body figure was actually transformed by the daily need to carry textbooks. For me and my fellow students, these weighty books would draw our shoulders back and our chests forward.
Educational fashions come and go, so maybe the return of traditional books won’t last. But for the moment, I find myself welcoming their wonderful return.
22. Which can best replace the underlined “ditching” in paragraph 1
A. Referring to. B. Getting rid of.
C. Getting used to. D. Making use of.
23. What can serve as the “navigational tool” of printed books
A. Bookmarks. B. Fingers. C. The progress bar. D. The opening part.
24. What purpose does the example in paragraph 5 serve
A. To explain an opposing idea. B. To provide additional information.
C. To support the author’s argument. D. To connect paragraph five and paragraph six.
25. What might be the best title
A. Why the Printed Book Is Back
B. How the Printed Book Benefits us
C. What Future the Printed Book Faces
D. Which Is Better, Printed Book or E-book
【答案】22. B 23. B 24. C 25. A

【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章主要论述了纸质书的时代又回来了并阐述了纸质书优于电子书的原因。
【22题详解】
词句猜测题。由文章第一段“Recent studies have shown that students remember more information when they read a paper book compared to reading an e-book. One school responded to these findings by ditching its e-readers.(最近研究表明,与阅读电子书相比,学生在阅读纸质书时记住的信息更多。一所学校对这些发现做出了回应,ditching电子阅读器)”可知,最新调查说明电子书不如纸质书,所以这里指一个学校“放弃”电子书,从而推测 ditching为“放弃”的意思。故选B项。
【23题详解】
推理判断题。由文章第二段“E-books may come with ‘navigational tools,’ but it turns out the best navigational tools are the ‘devices’ at the ends of your arms. You can use them to flip the pages forward and backward. (电子书可能会附带‘导航工具’,但事实证明,最好的导航工具是你手臂末端的‘设备’。你可以使用它们向前和向后翻页)”可推知,这里手臂末端的“设备”应指的是手指。故选B项。
【24题详解】
推理判断题。由文章第五段“Admittedly, e-books are lighter than paper books, but one must question whether this is really an advantage. In secondary school my body figure was actually transformed by the daily need to carry textbooks. For me and my fellow students, these weighty books would draw our shoulders back and our chests forward.(诚然,电子书比纸质书更轻,但人们必须质疑这是否真的是一种优势。在中学时,我的身材实际上因每天需要背课本而发生了变化。对我和我的同学们来说,这些沉重的书会把我们的肩膀向后拉,把我们的胸部向前拉)”可推知,作者用本段中的例子来支持作者的论点——纸质书比电子书更好些。故选C项。
【25题详解】

In North America, indoor and outdoor pickleball courts can be seen everywhere. About 66 new locations open every month. In addition, the game is being introduced to kids in middle school and high school PE classes. ___29___ Many professional players are appearing.
Pickleball may even become an Olympic sport one day, especially if the International Federation of Pickleball (IFP) gets its way. Created in 2010, the IFP’s goal is to make pickleball universally present around the world. ___30___ IFP membership has spread fast to over 60 countries, including the U.S., Australia, Canada, China, India, Italy, Pakistan, the Philippines and Spain.

第五部分 写作(共两节,满分45分)
第一节 概要写作(满分20分)
阅读下面短文完成结构图,每空不超过5个词;并根据结构图完成一篇80词左右的内容概要。
Art is everywhere. No matter how hard you try you could never not find art.
Art can combine culture with commercial (商业的) products in a way that not many other things can; art makes money and holds important emotional and cultural value within communities. When people attend a concert, they are paying for music, but they also gain a unique experience and a memory that will go through the rest of their lives. People don’t just want things anymore; they want to experience life — the arts are a perfect crossover (交叠) between culture and commerce.
The arts clearly have a pretty positive impact on physical and psychological (心理的) health. It is found that people who take part in artistic events often are more likely to gain good health compared to those who do not. The Royal Society of Public Health discovered that music and art, when used in hospitals, help to better the conditions of patients by reducing stress, anxiety and blood pressure.
Children who are involved with the arts make greater achievements in their education. Those taking part in drama have greater literary ability while others taking part in musical practice show greater skills in math and languages. Participating in the arts is important for child development. Encouraging children to express themselves in positive ways could help to form healthy emotional responses in later life.
Furthermore, the arts can bring communities together, making people feel less lonely and safer. Social bonds (社会纽带) are created among individuals when they share their art experiences through reflection and discussion.
Important to human life, art is celebrated and used by nations across the world for various purposes. Life without art would be boring and dead still, for art is a part of what makes us human.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Dear Jenny,
It seems you’re having an adventure in China!
In fact, these seemingly “frightening” names are metaphorical ones. Neither is there a lion’s head nor are there any ants or trees in the dishes. For example, the shape of the meatball in Stewed lion head resembles a lion’s head, which reflects Chinese aspirations for good wishes, such as family reunion and overall happiness. These imaginative names showcase the wisdom embedded in Chinese culinary culture.
Stewed lion head is highly recommended. Though it is simply a bowl of soup with a large and round meatball, when eaten, it melts in your mouth, incredibly soft and juicy.
Li Hua

Down in Oaxaca, Mexico, there is a special festival on December 23rd called la Noche de Rábanos, or the Night of the Radishes (萝卜之夜). Every year, people from all over the state display their amazing radish sculptures. Both Oaxacans and tourists wait excitedly for the 23rd, and line up starting in the afternoon to see the year’s art.
Over a hundred years ago, there was a market held on December 23rd called la Vigila de Navidad. It was a special Christmas market for people to buy ingredients, decorations, and so on. Vendors (摊贩) at this market would carve (雕刻) radishes to decorate their stalls. The carved radishes became very popular, and people started to buy them as Christmas decorations. Over the years, it is said, the vendors would compete to see who could make the best sculptures. Finally the tradition has become today’s yearly festival which draws tourists from all over the world.
The radishes used in the festival are bigger than normal (up to 3kg), and are harvested just a week beforehand. There are two types of sculptures: traditional designs and “free” designs. The traditional designs include Christmas scenes or designs related to Oaxaca. Free designs can be anything, but sometimes include famous people and animals. There are also two other types of plant sculptures, one made from flowers, another made from cornhusk.
As you walk through the rows of radish art you’ll hear live music, and you can even see fireworks at the end. Close by there is delicious street food, Christmas markets, and many galleries and stores, all decorated with lights.
For people wanting to travel for Christmas, Oaxaca is an excellent place to visit. There are lots of different events along with the Night of the Radishes. The weather in December is usually warm (20°C on average), and the sky is often sunny and cloudless. It’s a perfect vacation place for people coming from wintery climates.

We go up to Scotland we work along the Thames.
