A team of scientists say that playing sounds underwater can get fish to return to areas with damaged coral reefs (受损的珊瑚礁). They found fish returned after hearing recordings of the sounds of healthy coral reefs.
The scientists placed underwater speakers in areas with dying corals in Australia’s northern Great Barrier Reef. They played the sounds for about six weeks and studied the results. The team reported that many fish arrived in areas with the sounds of healthy coral reefs. The number of fish is two times more than before. The species (物种) also increases (增加) by 50 percent in the area.
The scientists noted the importance of having many different kinds of fish. Different kinds of fish perform many activities that support the ocean environment and sea life.
Steve is a scientist who leads the research. He said, “ Damaged coral reefs have a higher chance to regrow if they have healthy fish populations. Healthy coral reefs are very noisy places.
