In the busy and crowded Mexico City, an excellent woman has managed to build a shelter (庇护所) for one of nature’s most beautiful creatures—the hummingbird (蜂鸟) . Meet 73-year-old Catia Lattouf, an eager bird lover who has turned her apartment into a home for these tiny, lively birds.
In a city where green spaces are not enough, and city wildlife is often pushed to the edges, Lattouf’s love for hummingbirds began in 2011, just a year after recovering from a deadly illness, when she began caring for a hummingbird that had an eye injured by another bird. She named the bird Gucci after the brand (品牌) of the eyeglasses case where she kept it and soon they became the best of friends. The tiny hummingbird rested on Lattouf’s computer screen while she worked.
“It was a good medicine for my spirit,” Lattouf said of Gucei, adding, “It gave me a new life.” Gucci was the first, but many hummingbirds came to be cared for by Lattouf.
For years Lattouf’s home had been a bird shelter, but she was concerned about whether she would be able to meet the requirements of hummingbirds. However, since then, Lattouf has worked to make the public realize the importance of hummingbirds and has saved and freed hundreds of them.
Hummingbirds are an important part of the American food web. They help control the population of insects. Although they’re small in size, their diet includes the mosquitoes, spiders and fruit flies. Hummingbirds also pollinate (授粉) a wide variety of flowering plants from Alaska to the southernmost point of South America, which is especially important for native plant species. In fact, some plants depend almost completely on hummingbirds for pollination.
Through her effort, Lattouf has shown that even in the heart of a big city, it is possible to coexist (共存) with and protect the natural world. In a city that can sometimes feel disconnected from nature, Lattouf’s apartment is a wonder that can be found when we make space for the wild in our everyday lives.
4. Where did the bird’s name come from
A. The shape of the eyeglasses case. B. The place where Lattouf put it.
C. The park where Lattouf found it. D. The picture on Lattouf’s computer screen.

C. It brought some trouble to the author’s work. D. It benefited Lattouf’s health greatly.
6. What does Lattouf keep doing
A. Making good use of hummingbirds. B. Protecting hummingbirds from injury.
C. Calling on people to protect hummingbirds. D. Improving the living environment of hummingbirds.
7. What does the author intend to tell us in paragraph 5
A. The value of hummingbirds to humans. B. The possibility of man living with nature.
C. The growing conditions of flowering plants. D. The plants that are pollinated by hummingbirds.

Morocco’s national women’s soccer team is set to make its first appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. After years of being largely hidden, Moroccan women’s soccer is getting new growth at home and around the world.
During one game in May, the audience was not very big. The game was between a Moroccan national women’s professional league team and the armed forces team called ASFAR. ASFAR, a strong women’s team in Morocco, won 7 to 0.
Dressed in a shirt reading “Morocco” in Arabic, Aliae Benazzouza went to the field to meet the players. “I was very happy,” the young girl said. Idriss Benazzouza is Aliae’s father. “I teach my daughters confidence, not fear,” he said. “There is no difference between men and women in physical exercise.”

Boys in my neighborhood accepted me because I played better than they did and they thought of me as a role model.”
Nouhaila Benzina also plays for the national team and for ASFAR. She said her soccer career (职业) opened up new chances for her. The 25-year-old never saw soccer going against her clothing. The British Museum, in London, recently planned to make digital (数字的) copies of all the objects it keeps. The project to deal with about 8 million objects will take five years. The reason for this is that the museum said in August that about 2, 000 objects had been stolen or missing.
The museum is one of the busiest in the world. It holds objects such as the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon Marbles — known as the Elgin Marbles — and ancient stones and jewelry (珠宝) .
The leader, or chair of the museum, is George Osborne. He recently told the Culture, Media and Sport Committee of Parliament that he believed a person who worked at the museum was responsible. Osborne called it “an inside job by someone who the museum had put trust in.” He said the person took objects from the museum little by little.
The museum’s manager at the time was German art historian Hartwig Fischer. Fischer left the job in August after serving since 2016. He said he must be responsible for the thefts (盗窃) in the end. He added the museum did not react as it should have when concerns first came up that someone had been stealing.
The museum head said about 350 of the 2, 000 objects have been found and are in the process of being returned. Stolen objects included gold rings, earrings and other jewelry from the ancient Greek and Roman times.
The manager of the museum at present is Mark Jones. He said the museum is confident “that a theft of this kind can never happen again.” Jones added that one way to improve the museum’s safety is to show more objects to the public instead of, as he said, “simply locking objects away.”
In September, the museum asked for help in finding the missing objects. The organization offered a phone number for people to call if they had information.
12. Who stole the objects according to George Osborne
A. A visitor. B. An artist. C. An art dealer. D. A museum worker.
13. Why did Hartwig Fischer feel sorry about the missing objects
A. He shouldn’t have trusted any worker. B. He didn’t deal with the stealing in time.
C. He did not notice objects were missing. D. He shouldn’t have shown valuable objects.
14 What does Mark Jones want to do to protect their objects
A. Lock their objects away. B. Call on the public to help.
C. Make more objects known. D. Keep visitors away from objects.
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. British Museum Will Make Its Objects Digital
B. Art Lovers Will Soon Visit British Museum Online
C. Digital Collections of World-Famous Museum Were Stolen
D. Stolen Objects Are Being Returned to British Museum

Summer was coming to an end and there was a bit of Autumn in the air. The temperatures were getting cooler and cooler, the air was turning drier, and I could already see the first yellow and red leaves on the trees. It’s my favorite season. The weather was neither too hot nor too cold, which made people feel very comfortable. You could see fruit everywhere. Therefore, I spent as much time as possible in the wild enjoying the beauty of nature.
One day’, I had just finished taking my dogs for their morning walk when I noticed something. There was a young maple tree growing in my hallway. It was growing out of a tiny pile of earth on the porch (门廊) . Its bottom hadn’t even turned to wood yet, but it had three lovely red leaves growing out of it.
I smiled at this strong little tree getting so much growth and life out of so little soil. I knew, however, that it couldn’t grow much larger where it was. I bent (弯腰) down and gently took it out of the earth. I took it inside to show my daughter and have her take a picture of it. Then I walked with it out to the edge of the woods around the grass land behind my house.
Walking into the forest, I had a wonderful feeling. Nature can teach us so much about life. There are so many wonders, growth, and beauty in it. You can’t be out in it for long without being filled with wonder and respect.
I also took a moment to look at all the life around me. There were trees, bushes, weeds, flowers, butterflies, bees, spiders, and birds all’ so full of life. And I felt so happy that my behavior, however small, was helping do good to nature.

5. What can we learn about Gucci
A. It was hard to care for. B. It nearly died of its serious injury.
C. It brought some trouble to the author’s work. D. It benefited Lattouf’s health greatly.

A. Making good use of hummingbirds. B. Protecting hummingbirds from injury.
C. Calling on people to protect hummingbirds. D. Improving the living environment of hummingbirds.

C He did not notice objects were missing. D. He shouldn’t have shown valuable objects.
14. What does Mark Jones want to do to protect their objects
A. Lock their objects away. B. Call on the public to help.
C. Make more objects known. D. Keep visitors away from objects.
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. British Museum Will Make Its Objects Digital
B. Art Lovers Will Soon Visit British Museum Online
C. Digital Collections of World-Famous Museum Were Stolen
D Stolen Objects Are Being Returned to British Museum

【答案】范文
Something I Have Done for My Parents
As a grateful child, I recently did something special for my parents. One Sunday, I woke up early and prepared a delicious breakfast for them. It was the first time I had cooked for them, and I was nervous but excited.
As they savored the food, I saw the warmth and happiness in their eyes. They thanked me and hugged me tightly. That simple act of kindness brought our family closer and filled me with joy. It was a small gesture, but it meant the world to them. I realized the simple things we do can bring immense happiness to our loved ones.

【答案】Para 1:
I wanted to find a happy home for this young tree, to grow freely and strong. I searched for a place where it could receive enough sunlight and water, yet be protected from strong winds. Finally, I found a small clearing in the woods, surrounded by taller trees that would provide shade and protection. Carefully, I dug a small hole in the soft soil and placed the maple tree inside. The tree seemed happy in its new home, its leaves glistening in the sunlight. I knew that this little tree would grow strong and tall, just like all the other trees in the forest.
Para 2:
Following my daughter’s suggestion, we built a garden to save plants. We collected seeds and seedlings from around the neighborhood, planting them in our small plot of land. We watered them regularly, watching them grow and bloom. It was a beautiful garden, full of life and color. Our neighbors joined us, and soon, the whole community was involved. The garden became a place where people came together, sharing stories and laughter. It was a reminder of the beauty and importance of nature, and a symbol of our commitment to protecting it.
