Here are some popular favourite films and movies. You can go to theatre to watch them with your family or friends.
Bottoms
The high school comedy is very strange and funny. It’s a smart new comedy. Ayo Edebiri and Rachel Sennott play unpopular best friends who start a fight club in hopes of attracting the cheerleaders of their dreams. Bottoms was co-written by Sennott and Emma Seligman, who also directs. They previously collaborated on the movie Shiva Baby.
Blue Beetle
It is a true-blue surprise. In the great new superhero film Blue Beetle, Xolo Mariduena plays Jaime Reyes, a young Mexican-American man who comes across a frightening bug-like alien artifact (神器) that connects to him and gives him superpowers. It may seem like just another story about a hero, but-centering the film on a Latin family changes the familiar mode in ways big and small.
Strays
It leads the pack for rated dog comedies. In the new comedy Strays, four talking dogs have an incredible/unbelievable journey. Reggie (voiced by Will Ferrell) doesn’t realize his owner Doug (played by Will Forte) is going to abandon him on the streets. But when Doug’s intentions become clear, Reggie’s motivation shifts from a reunion to revenge (复仇). Strays’ voice cast also features Jamie Foxx, Isla Fisher and Randall Park.
Golda
The movie describes a key moment in Israeli history. It is a story of Golda Meir, Israel’s first and only female prime minister. But it only covers a period of fewer than three weeks. The film follows Meir — played by a nearly unrecognizable Helen Mirren — as she spends the tense 19 days of the 1973. The conflict in 1973 resulted in heavy Israeli losses, and finally, Meir gave up her position of prime minister.
1. In what way is Emma Seligman different from Sennott
A. He’s the director of Bottoms. B. He is the writer of Bottoms.
C. He plays a role in Bottoms. D. He once started a fight club.
2. Why does Reggie decide to get his revenge
A. The journey is very difficult. B. Other dogs want to abandon him.
C. Doug has too many intentions. D. Its owner is unfriendly to it.
3. Which of the following suits people interested in history best
A. Bottoms. B. Blue Beetle. C. Strays. D. Golda.

B
I’m an ecologist studying the cultural value and sustainability of wildlife use by traders and traditional healers in South Africa. I am also a traditional healer myself and work with conservationists to protect wildlife.
In southern Africa, traditional healers use plant and animal materials, known as umuthi (means medicine), that might come from endangered species such as lions and pangolins (穿山甲). This can create tension between umuthi traders and conservation professionals. I think a lot about the balance to be struck between cultural identity, healing traditions and the urgent need for wildlife preservation. I meet with traditional healers and umuthi traders in markets in Johannesburg. Behind me, dried umuthi lines the walls in glass jars and my hands are arranged to form one of the greetings of a traditional healer.
Being a healer as well as a PhD candidate at the University of Cape Town brings me unique insights/opinions. Often, conservation objectives clash with deeply rooted cultural practices. I try to bridge those two fields and build trust between healers, tribal authorities, traders and conservationists — a challenging endeavour in the light of historical research practices.
Practices that bring these groups together, such as ones that promote home-grown medicinal plants, have had promising outcomes. I talk to communities about our conservation laws and how they could be changed to allow sustainable harvesting of natural products. I want to make communities become administrators of their environment. After all, if plants and animals go extinct, then that threatens the lives of traders and healers alike.
My double role as a healer and researcher creates its own complexities (复杂性). Yet, I remain optimistic that harmonious coexistence is achievable. My purpose is to enlarge the voices of traditional healers, respect their wisdom, and preserve the balance between culture and conservation for generations to come.
4. What can we know about umuthi
A. It must be very expensive. B. It can cure many kinds of diseases.
C. It’s made from several materials. D. It’s been accepted by conservation professionals.
5. What does the underlined word “clash” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Conflict. B. Combine. C. Compete. D. Challenge.
6. How does the author help different parties solve problems
A. By combining different groups together. B. By suggesting growing medical plants.
C. By advising government to make laws. D. By making healers help traders.
7. What does the author think of his work as a double role
A. Easy. B. Convenient. C. Encouraging. D. Worthwhile.
C 5. A 6. B 7. D
根据第二段中“In southern Africa, traditional healers use plant and animal materials, known as umuthi (means medicine), that might come from endangered species such as lions and pangolins (穿山甲). (在非洲南部,传统治疗师使用被称为umuthi(意思是药物)的植物和动物材料,这些材料可能来自狮子和穿山甲等濒危物种)”可知,这种药物由几种不同的动植物材料制成。故选C项。
【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据画线词的下文“I try to bridge those two fields and build trust between healers, tribal authorities, traders and conservationists — a challenging endeavour in the light of historical research practices. (我试图在这两个领域之间架起桥梁,在治疗师、部落当局、贸易商和环保主义者之间建立信任——鉴于历史研究实践,这是一项具有挑战性的努力)”可知,作者需要为两个领域搭建桥梁,建立信任,且这项工作具有挑战性。由此可知,这里应该是指保护目标与根深蒂固的文化实践相冲突,clash意思应该是“冲突”,与conflict意思一致。故选A项。
根据第四段中“Practices that bring these groups together, such as ones that promote home-grown medicinal plants, have had promising outcomes. (将这些群体聚集在一起的做法,例如推广自种药用植物的做法,已经产生了有希望的结果)”可知,作者通过建议种植药用植物来帮助各方解决问题。故选B项。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“My double role as a healer and researcher creates its own complexities (复杂性). Yet, I remain optimistic that harmonious coexistence is achievable. My purpose is to enlarge the voices of traditional healers, respect their wisdom, and preserve the balance between culture and conservation for generations to come. (我作为治疗者和研究者的双重角色本身就很复杂。然而,我仍然乐观地认为,和谐共处是可以实现的。我的目的是扩大传统治疗师的声音,尊重他们的智慧,并为子孙后代保持文化与保护之间的平衡)”可知,作者认识到自身角色的复杂性,但是认为自己的工作可以为实现和谐共处做出贡献,保持文化与保护之间的平衡。由此可知,他认为自己的工作是值得的。故选D项。
C
When the word exercise is seen or heard most people think of the physical labor it involves, but there is so much more to it. Exercise is more than just a twenty-minute run. Exercising is one of the most important things someone can do to take care of themselves and their bodies. The benefits of exercise include more than just physical, but also emotional and health benefits.
Exercise has positive effects on the brain’s functions. Exercise decreases anxiety, which is the body’s natural response to stress. Norepinephrine (去甲肾上腺素), which involves levels of stress, can be moderated with exercise because exercise increases the amounts of it.
Exercise enhances brain health. The brain is the center of control for the body’s entire sense of functioning, and without it all that would be left is muscles and bones. The mental health is linked to exercise. Mental health can be strengthened by physical activity whether it is a casual walk in the park, or intense weight lifting training. Exercise promotes positive body images when increasing self-esteem, and helps increase the overall self image. The emotional and mental benefits from exercise are vital and only growing, as more is being discovered about the brain’s functions.
Exercise is complex, and constantly changing. The physical benefits of flexibility, muscular strength and muscular endurance are all vital to creating a healthy body. The health benefits from exercise range from heart to immune system, and more are being discovered every day to help increase one’s life. Exercise is not limited to just the gym, but an entire existence. The combination of benefits is what makes exercise so cardinal. Exercise is one of the most important activities someone can introduce into their lives. A walk around a neighbourhood, or training for a team, any effort towards getting your heart rate going makes a difference. Exercise is universal and beneficial to everyone.

In the past few years, Sam Altman, the father of ChatGPT, has become the hottest face in the world of AI. Many industry leaders, AI researchers see ChatGPT as a basic technological change, as meaningful as the creation of the web browser or the iPhone.
Some believe it will deliver a utopia (乌托邦) where everyone has all the time and money ever needed. Others believe it could destroy humanity. Still others spend much of their time arguing that the technology is never as powerful as everyone says it is.
Mr Altman, a slim, 37-year-old investor from the suburbs of St. Louis, sits calmly in the middle of it all. As chief executive (总经理) of OpenAI, he hopes to balance the many possibilities as he moves this strange and powerful technology into the future.
He believes that artificial intelligence will happen one way or another, that it will do wonderful things that even he can’t yet imagine and that we can find ways of making up the harm it may cause. It’s an attitude that mirrors Mr Altman’s own track. His life has been a fairly steady climb towards greater success and wealth, driven by an effective set of personal skills. It makes sense that he believes that the good thing will happen rather than the bad.
He is not necessarily motivated by money. Mr Altman’s wealth is not well recorded. But he said he holds no stock (股票) in OpenAI. The only money he stands to make from the company is a yearly salary.
Georgeann Kepchar, who taught Advanced Placement computer science course, saw Mr Altman as one of her most talented computer science students—and one with a rare knack for pushing people in new directions. “He had creativity and vision, combined with the ambition and force of personality to make others be willing to work with him on putting his ideas into action,” she said.

When I was about four years old, I started washing my face on my own. However, I always ignored the area behind my ears on purpose though my mom would often remind me.
One summer, in July of that year, my mom drove me to my grandparents’ house for our annual summer holiday visit. When we arrived, I was told that Grandma had gone on a trip with her friends and wouldn’t be back for another two weeks. Feeling a bit down, I went to the yard to play while my mom and grandpa caught up on some things. Although I couldn’t hear their conversation clearly, I had a strong feeling they were talking about me based on their gestures and expressions. Later, my mom returned home, and she would come back to pick me up two months later.
After dinner that night, Grandpa asked me to take a bath before going to bed. Since I loved taking baths, I happily agreed. With the bathtub (浴缸) filled with water, Grandpa reminded me, “Just make sure you clean the area behind your ears really well. You wouldn’t want potatoes to start growing there, would you ”
“Potatoes ” I stopped in my tracks and turned back to look at him. “Yes, potatoes. If you don’t clean the dirt behind your ears, potatoes might actually sprout (发芽) and grow there,” he explained, causing my eyes to widen in surprise. “But I don’t have any potatoes behind my ears, Grandpa,” I said as I ran my fingers along the back of my ears. He took a quick glance and replied, “Oh, I see a couple of sprouts: starting right there!” He urged me to get into the bathtub immediately and scrub (擦洗) them away thoroughly.
I nodded, still in disbelief. This was the first time I had ever heard such a thing. Why hadn’t my parents warned me about this before I wondered, but couldn’t find an answer. Nonetheless, I felt shocked by Grandpa’s warning.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
I hurried to jump into the bathtub, carefully scrubbing behind my ears.

“What are you looking at behind your ears ” Grandma asked me curiously.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
I hurried to jump into the bathtub, carefully scrubbing behind my ears. I spent a considerable amount of time ensuring every bit of dirt was gone. When I finally finished bathing, I grabbed a handheld mirror and carefully checked each ear for any signs of potato sprouts. Grandpa noticed my actions and checked my ears with a smile, saying, “Ah, the potato sprouts are all gone.” I felt relieved. From that day forward, I developed a habit of cleaning the area behind my ears and even using mirrors to check. Eventually, Grandma returned home. That evening, as I examined my ears once again, she noticed.
“What are you looking at behind your ears ” Grandma asked me curiously. “I’m checking for ‘potato sprouts’,” I replied. She stared at me, puzzled. After I explained, she chuckled and said, “Oh, your grandpa was just teasing you.” “What ” I exclaimed. It was then that I realized I had been completely fooled and then burst into laughter with Grandma. Despite the childish trick, I continued to clean the area behind my ears regularly because it had already become a habit. Grandpa continued with his other “ear stories” for years to come. I was deeply touched by his sense of humor and wisdom.

A
Here are some popular favourite films and movies.
3 Which of the following suits people interested in history best
A. Bottoms.
D. Worthwhile.
8. What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. Most people regard exercise as physical labor. B. Running is a very good kind of exercise.
C. Exercise benefits people in several aspects. D. We should care for ourselves when exercising.
9. Which of the following is the function of Norepinephrine
A. It affects brain’s functions negatively. B. It shows people’s response to stress.
C. It can make people forget anxiety. D. It can be raised by having exercise.
10. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. Mental health’s effect on people. B. Exercise’s effect on our brain.
C. The importance of our brain. D. The functions of our brain.
11. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Exercise is really a complex activity. B. Exercise can bring many benefits to people.
C. Exercise should increase people’s heart rate. D. Exercise should be changed constantly.
D

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
