What is special about Mother’s Day
The second Sunday in May is Mother’s Day. It is a holiday in both England and America. On that day, children send Mother’s day cards to their mothers. They also give their mothers other presents. Fathers and children do the housework so that mothers can have a good rest.
Anna Jarvis
(1864-1948)
Mother's Day originated(起源于)in the United States.
On May 9, 1906, Anna Jarvis's mother died in great sorrow.
On the anniversary(周年纪念)of her mother‘s death the following year, Miss Anna organized activities to remember her mother and encouraged others to express their gratitude to their mothers in a similar way. Since then, she has lobbied(游说) and appealed(呼吁) to all sectors(方面) of society for the establishment(建立) of Mother’s Day. Her appeal received a warm response(回应). On May 10, 1913, the United States Senate(参议院) and House of Representatives(众议院) passed a resolution(决议), signed by President Wilson, deciding that the second Sunday of May each year is Mother's Day.
By the time Anna died in 1948, 43 countries had established Mother's Day.

My plan for Mother’s Day
Sonora Dodd, of Washington, first had the idea of a "father's day." She thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon (布道)in 1909.
Sonora wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. Smart, who was a Civil War veteran(退伍军人), was widowed(丧偶) when his wife died while giving birth to their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural(乡村的)farm in eastern Washington state.
After Sonora became an adult she realized the selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices(父母的牺牲)and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous(勇敢的), selfless, and loving man. Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration on the 19th of June, 1910.
In 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation(公告)declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.
We never know the love of the parents until we become parents ourselves.
