17-year-old Tibetan girl Cigla is a freshman at Nagqu No. 2 Senior High School in Lhasa, which sit 3,650 meters above sea level. She now plays point guard for the school’s 12-member female basketball team.
“Practice makes perfect. You get used to the altitude when you love the sport and train hard enough,” said the potential basketball star, who has been crazy about the sport since taking it up three years ago.
With outstanding speed and accurate passes, she never fails to shine on the basketball court, even when she competes against the boys. Though she is a freshman in high school, Cigla already has a clear picture of her future--entering a sports college to study basketball. In the eyes of Cila, who comes from a poor herder’s (牧民的) family in northern Tibet, studying in Lhasa, the most developed city in this area, has made it much easier for her to realize her basketball dream.
With an average altitude of over 4,500 meters. Nagqu is among the most uninhabitable places in Tibet. Low-oxygen environments and extreme weather have long influenced the health of Nagqu students, hampering the development of primary education in the area.
Like Cigla, many students at the school are from poor farmers’ and herders’ families. Dawa Droma, a senior student also on the school’s female basketball team, recalled, “I had never touched a basketball before that game but joined the class team anyway. When I scored and heard my classmates cheer for me, I couldn’t feel more proud. That’s how I fell in love with basketball and why I never looked back.” Reflecting on the influence of basketball on her life, Dawa Droma said the sport had helped her get fit and build up confidence over the years. “Meeting players from different schools has certainly made me a more outgoing person,” she said.
4. What do we know about Cigla from the text
A. She loves playing basketball but dislikes training hard.
B. She is in Grade One at a senior high school at a high altitude.
C. She’s been crazy about playing basketball since she was 12 years old.
D. She’s got used to the altitude because she has lived there for years.
5. In Cigla’s opinion, what can help her realize her basketball dream
A. Her school’s location. B. Her clear plans.
C. Her family background. D. Her entering a sports college.
6. What does the underlined word “hampering” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. promoting. B. maintaining. C. interpreting. D. preventing.
7. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Dawa Droma barely feels proud when scoring.
B. Dawa Droma has been affected by basketball greatly.
C. Playing basketball improves Dawa Droma’s sense of touch.
D. Players from different schools have become Dawa Droma’s friends
【答案】4. B 5. A 6. D 7. B

Recently turning 25, Amazon is undergoing great changes. One thing is sure: Amazon has big plans for you, your money and your data.
The main site and shopping experience are unlikely to change much over the next few years unless the company is forced to by the EU or US authorities. Instead, Amazon is looking to get into the physical world. However, there are still some things that people prefer to test in person rather than buy blind online. Aside from the main site, the future of retail (零售) for Amazon looks to be using abandoned department stores. According to The Wall Street Journal, Amazon will make some stores into fulfilment centres (仓储中心) while turning others into Amazon Department Store.
Food delivery is also an area that Amazon is interested in, and it currently owns roughly 16 per cent of the food delivery company Deliveroo. Many of its stores will soon begin using fingerprint scans to pay for goods. If anyone can compete with supermarkets Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose, it’s Amazon.
The largest area of investment for Amazon is in the field of health, because it’s one of a few industries that offer it the large amounts of money needed when it comes to growth. Soon to offer services from telemedicine to insurance widely, Amazon has already offered some medicines. What’s more, from cameras outside your home to keyless entry, Amazon wants to deliver its packages more securely and directly.
These services mean Amazon will be in charge of more of your home than ever before. Amazon is thinking globally, too, planning to send several satellites into space to supply fast and affordable broadband services to tens of millions of people who do not have reliable Internet.
The next few years are important for Amazon’s continued success. The company needs your money and data to make that happen. While it was a huge force during the pandemic, Amazon’s next moves see them in new fields where success is important but not guaranteed. Time will tell whether you, and others, trust Amazon with their health and even more access to their homes.
8. What does Amazon intend to do, based on paragraph 2
A. It will make big changes to its main site later. B. It will focus on making use of physical stores.
C. It will be controlled by the EU to a great extent. D. It will continue to focus on the virtual world.
9. Why is Amazon interested in the health industry
A. Few enterprises have developed in this field.
B. The company has related industries which can offer help.
C. It offers the economic benefits required for enterprise expansion.
D. Offering medication has a bright future and can bring in big money.
10. How will Amazon achieve its global vision
A. It will set up reliable Internet for online shopping.
B. It will offer broadband for free to people in remote areas.
C. It will support the aerospace industry by launching satellites.
D. It will provide various services including door to door delivery.
11. What is the author’s intention in the last paragraph
A. To make a brief summary of Amazon’s plan.
B. To say Amazon needs people’s trust to succeed.
C. To state the social background that Amazon faces.
D. To describe the important role Amazon plays in daily life.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. A 11. B

【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“The largest area of investment for Amazon is in the field of health, because it’s one of a few industries that offer it the large amounts of money needed when it comes to growth.(亚马逊最大的投资领域是健康领域,因为它是为数不多的几个能够为其提供大量增长所需资金的行业之一)”可知,亚马逊对健康产业感兴趣是因为提供企业扩张所需的经济效益。故选C。
【10题详解】

【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“The next few years are important for Amazon’s continued success. The company needs your money and data to make that happen. The specific cultural values of a country may determine whether concern about environmental issues actually leads individuals to engage in environmentally friendly behaviors, according to research published in Psychological Science.
Kimin Eom, a psychological scientist of the University of California, Santa Barbara, was inspired to investigate the links between culture, environmental concern, and environmental action after noticing that both public discussion and academic research on environmental behavior typically focus on people from Western countries. It is worth noticing because Western countries tend to have cultural values that prioritize individuals’ own attitudes and beliefs and encourage expression of them.
“The theory seemed to be that once individuals are led to believe in the urgency of environmental issues and have stronger concerns about sustainability (持续性), they will change and act to address the issues,” explains Eom. But this relationship might not hold for individuals living in more collectivistic (集体主义的) societies, which place more emphasis on social harmony and uniformity than on self-expression, Eom and his team assumed.
To examine what drives environmental action in individualistic and collectivistic cultures, the researchers conducted a study with participants from the United States (an individualistic culture) and Japan (a collectivistic culture). They found environmental concern was closely connected with environmental behavior—in this case, choosing environmentally friendly products—but only among American participants. On the other hand, believing that a large percentage of people engage in environmentally friendly behaviors was associated with making eco-friendly choices among Japanese participants, but not American participants.
The findings suggest that personal concerns are more likely to motivate people to take environmental action if they live in individualistic countries, while social norms (准则) are more likely to drive people to engage in environmentally friendly behavior if they live in collectivistic countries.
“Getting citizens actively engaged is critical to addressing urgent social challenges, such as climate change,” says Eom. “Our research suggests that scientists, policymakers, and activists need to understand how culture shapes the psychological factors of action to develop policies, campaigns, and interventions (干预) that address important social issues.”
12. What does Eom find about previous research on environmental behavior
A. Its study participants are too limited.
B Its results need a while to be achieved.
C. It prioritizes individuals’ attitudes and beliefs.
D. It draws much evidence from public discussion.
13. Under which condition will a Japanese man most likely take environmental action
A. If he sees many others do so.
B. If he is affected by collectivistic values.
C. If he moves to an individualistic country.
D If he worries about the environment personally.
14. What does Eom say about their research in the last paragraph
A. It fails to take participants’ psychological factors into account.
B. It encourages scientists and policymakers to make joint efforts.
C. It has a further study direction towards urgent social challenges.
D. It provides insights into promoting public engagement in social issues.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. Social Norms Play a Part in Addressing Pollution
B. Environmental Issues Originate from National Cultures
C. Motivating Eco-Friendly Behaviors Depends on Cultural Values
D. More Environmental Concerns Usually Mean More Green Action
【答案】12. A 13. A 14. D 15. C
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。一项研究表示,一个国家的特定文化价值观可能决定人们对环境问题的关注是否会促使个人做出环保行为。
【12题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Kimin Eom, a psychological scientist of the University of California, Santa Barbara, was inspired to investigate the links between culture, environmental concern, and environmental action after noticing that both public discussion and academic research on environmental behavior typically focus on people from Western countries.(加州大学圣芭芭拉分校的心理科学家Kimin Eom注意到,关于环境行为的公众讨论和学术研究通常都集中在西方国家的人身上,因此受到启发,开始调查文化、环境关注和环境行动之间的联系。)”可知,Kimin Eom注意到之前关于环境行为的公众讨论和学术研究通常都集中在西方国家的人身上,由此可推测出,这些研究的对象具有局限性。故选A。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中的“On the other hand, believing that a large percentage of people engage in environmentally friendly behaviors was associated with making eco-friendly choices among Japanese participants, but not American participants.(另一方面,在日本参与者中,相信很大一部分人进行环保行为与做出环保选择有关,但在美国参与者中则不然。)”可知,在日本参与者当中,当他们相信有很大一部分人做出了环保行为,他们也会做出环保选择。由此可推测出,当一个日本人看到许多其他人采取环保行动,那么他也会这么做。故选A。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Our research suggests that scientists, policymakers, and activists need to understand how culture shapes the psychological factors of action to develop policies, campaigns, and interventions(干预) that address important social issues.(我们的研究表明,科学家、政策制定者和活动家需要了解文化如何塑造行动的心理因素,以制定解决重要社会问题的政策、运动和干预措施。)”可推测出,该研究为促进公众参与解决社会问题提供了见解。故选D。
【15题详解】
标题归纳题。通读全文可知,第一段“The specific cultural values of a country may determine whether concern about environmental issues actually leads individuals to engage in environmentally friendly behaviors, according to research published in Psychological Science.(根据发表在《心理科学》上的研究,一个国家的特定文化价值观可能决定对环境问题的关注是否真的会导致个人进行环保行为。)”

At noon that day, I drove back to my house after the performance. Just as I entered the living room, I heard a gentle sound coming from the bedroom upstairs—it was the sound of my favorite violin.
“Thief!”
I dashed upstairs. Sure enough, as expected, a boy of about 12 years old was petting my violin. The boy had messy hair and a thin face, his oversized coat seemingly filled with something. At first glance, I found a new pair of shoes missing. It seemed that he was surely a thief.
Then, I saw his eyes full of fear and despair. My anger was immediately replaced by a smile, I asked, “Are you Mr. Ram’s nephew, Michael I’m his housekeeper. Two days ago, I heard his nephew living in the countryside will come. It must be you. You’re really like him!”
On hearing my words, the boy was first astonished, but then quickly said, “Has my uncle gone out I think I’d better first go out for a walk and visit him again in a while.”
I nodded and asked the boy who was preparing to put down the violin, “Do you like to play the violin so much ”
“Yes, but I’m so poor that I can’t afford it,” the boy replied.
“Then, I give this violin to you.” The boy looked at me questioningly, but he picked up the violin. Going out to the living room, he suddenly saw on the wall my huge color photo I performed in the Sydney Opera House. He involuntarily trembled for a moment and ran out without looking back.
I was sure that the boy had understood what happened because no one would decorate the living room with the housekeeper’s photo.
Paragraph 1:
A few years later, I was invited to be a judge at a music competition of senior high school students.

Paragraph 2:
After the competition, “Michael” ran to me, holding a violin box.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
A few years later, I was invited to be a judge at a music competition of senior high school students. Fascinated by the gentle sound of one participant, I was wholeheartedly impressed by his wonderful performance and solid strength. As I flicked my eyes up to glance at the performer, I was so astonished to see a thin face, so familiar, yet now lit up with joy and confidence. The “thief”! For an instant, I was amazed that the kindness I offered to cover the boy’s misconduct would made such a big difference!
Paragraph 2:
After the competition, “Michael” ran to me, holding a violin box. He asked with a tremble in his voice, with his thin face reddening with excitement, “Sir, do you recognize me The nephew! It’s your kindness that enlightenes my life, so does your violin. Today, I can give back this violin to you without regret...” Tears welled up in my eyes. Never had I anticipated that a tiny white lie would inject such great power into others and change their life.
①.看:glance at / have a look at
②.对……印象深刻:be impressed by / have a deep impression on

17-year-old Tibetan girl Cigla is a freshman at Nagqu No. 2 Senior High School in Lhasa which sit 3,650 meters above sea level.
D. preventing.

A Few enterprises have developed in this field.
D
The specific cultural values of a country may determine whether concern about environmental issues actually leads individuals to engage in environmentally friendly behaviors according to research published in Psychological Science.
B. Its results need a while to be achieved.
D. If he worries about the environment personally.
