第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers (青少年). But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son: suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents. “The door to his room is always shut.” Joanna noted.
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14 year old daughter. “She used to cuddle up (蜷伏) with me on the sofa and talk.” said Mark. “Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is figuring out which time is which.”
Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what's on their minds. “In fact, parents are first on the list.” said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers, “This completely changes during the teen years.” Riera explained. “They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last.”
Parents who know what's going on in their teenagers' lives are in the best position to help them. To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental break, for children also need freedom, though young. Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them.
21.“The door to his room is always shut.” in the first paragraph suggests that the son ________.
A.is always busy with his studies
B.doesn't want to be disturbed
C.keeps himself away from his parents
D.begins to dislike his parents
22.What troubles Tina and Mark most is that ________.
A.their daughter isn't as lovely as before
B.they can't read their daughter's mind exactly
C.they don't know what to say to their daughter
D.their daughter talks with them only when she needs help
23.What can be learned from the passage
A.Parents are unhappy with their growing children.
B.Parents should have suitable ways to talk with their teenagers.
C.Parents should be patient with their silent teenagers.
D.Parents should try to understand their teenagers.
B
One day when I was 5, my mother scolded (责骂) me for not finishing my rice and I got angry. I wanted to play outside and not to be made to finish eating my old rice. When angrily opening the screen door with my foot, I kicked back about a 12 inch part of the lower left hand corner of the new screen door. But I had no remorse,__for I was happy to be playing in the backyard with my toys.
Today, I know if my child had done what I did, I would have scolded my child, and told him about how expensive this new screen door was, and I would have delivered a spanking (打屁股) for it. My parents never said a word. They left the corner of the screen door pushed out, creating an opening, a breach (裂缝) in the defense against unwanted insects.
For years, every time I saw that corner of the screen door, it would constantly remind me of my mistake. For years, I knew that everyone in my family would see that hole and remember who did it. For years, every time I heard a fly buzzing (嗡嗡) in the kitchen, I would wonder if it came in through the hole that I had created with my angry foot. I would wonder if my family members were thinking the same thing, silently blaming me every time a flying insect entered our home, making life more terrible for us all.
My parents taught me a valuable lesson, one that a spanking or stern (严厉的) words perhaps could not deliver. Their silent punishment for what I had done delivered a hundred stern messages to me. Above all, it has helped me become a more patient person and not burst out so easily.
24.When the author damaged the door, his parents ________.

C.scolded him for what he had done D.told him how expensive it was

A.regret B.hurt C.feel D.notice
26.The experience may cause the author ________.
A.to hide his anger from others B.not to go against his parents' will
C.to have a better control of himself D.not to make mistakes in the future
27.What is the main idea of this text
A.Adults should ignore their children's bad behavior.
B.Parents are the best teachers of their children.
C.What is the best way to become a more patient person
D.Silent punishment may have a better effect on educating people.
C
The clothes you wear. The food you eat. The color of your bedroom walls. Where you go and how you get there. The people you hang around with. What time you go to bed. What do these things have in common You're asking. They're just a few examples of many hundreds of things that your parents controlled for you when you were a child.
As a kid, you didn't have a say in everything; your parents made decisions about everything from the cereal (麦片) you ate in the morning to the pajamas (睡衣) you wore at night. And it's a good thing, too—kids need this kind of protection on their own.
But finally, kids grow up and become teens. And part of being a teen is developing your own identity—one that is separate from your parents'. But as you change and grow into this new person who makes your own decisions, your parents have a difficult time adjusting (调整).
In many families, it is this adjustment that can cause a lot of fighting between teens and parents. And issues like the type of friends you have or your attitudes to partying can cause bigger arguments, because your parents still always want to protect you and keep you safe, no matter how old you are.
The good news about fighting with your parents is that in many families the arguing will lessen as parents get more comfortable with the idea that their teens have a right to certain opinions. It can take several years for parents and teens to adjust to their new roles, though. In the meantime, focus on communicating with your parents.
Sometimes this can feel impossible—like they just don't see your point of view and never will. But talking and expressing your opinions can help you gain more respect from your parents.
Keep in mind, too, that your parents were teens once and that in most cases, they can relate to what you're going through.
28.In the first two paragraphs, the writer ________.
A.complains that parents control kids too much
B.proves that kids have no right to give their opinions
C.describes how carefully parents look after kids
D.explains that it is necessary for parents to control kids
29.Why does a lot of fighting break out between teens and parents
A.Parents aren't used to losing control of kids.
B.Teens like to have everything decided.
C.Parents blame teens for not respecting them.
D.Teens are eager to develop their own identity.
30.Why do parents control teens in the writer's opinion
A.To prevent them from having their own ideas.
B.To protect them from being hurt.
C.To make them respect parents in the family.
D.To make sure that children have a good future.
31.What might be the most suitable title of the passage
A.What Do Parents Control Their Children for
B.How Do Parents Take Care of Children
C.How to Get Rid of Your Parents' Control
D.Why Do I Fight with Parents So Much
D
Last week my youngest son and I visited my father at his new home in Tucson, Arizona. He moved there a few years ago, and I was eager to see his new place and meet his friends.
My earliest memories of my father are of a tall, handsome, successful man devoted to his work and family but uncomfortable with his children. As a child I loved him, but as a school girl and young adult I feared him and felt bad about him. He seemed unhappy with me unless I got straight A's and unhappy with my boyfriends if their fathers were not as “successful” as he was. Whenever I went out with him on weekends, I used to struggle to think up things to say, feeling on guard.
On the first day of my visit, we went out with one of my father's friends for lunch at an outdoor cafe. We walked along that afternoon, did some shopping, ate at the street table, and laughed over my son's funny facial expressions. Gone was my father's critical air and strict rules. Who was this person I knew as my father, who seemed so friendly and interesting to be around What had held him back before
The next day, my dad pulled out his childhood pictures and told me quite a few stories about his own childhood. Although our times together became easier over the years, I never felt closer to him at that moment. After so many years, I'm at last seeing another side of my father. And in doing so, I'm delighted with my new friend. My dad, in his new home in Arizona, is back to me from where he is.
32.Why did the author feel bad about her father as a young adult

35.What is the best title for the text
A.Our Good Times B.My Father Is Back to Me

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)

It was the late 1930s, and things were tough. Mum had a hard time raising us on her own in our small community of New Westminster, Canada. My dad had drowned in Pitt Lake five years ago.
Looking back, I realize what Mum went through sending us kids to school. Every morning she would tuck (卷起) a new piece of cardboard in our shoes, because our soles (鞋底) were worn out. When we got home, Mum would have “French toast” ready for us. Constant moving was typical for my family in those times. Rent was 25 dollars a month, but Mum couldn't pay it, and we knew we would be evicted (驱逐) right after Christmas on the first of January.
Christmas was near, and we were given a twenty five dollar Christmas fund from social services. The inspector (视察者) came to our house, and searched it from top to bottom to be sure we didn't have any food hidden away. When he didn't find any, he wrote the cheque to Mum. Mum said that instead of buying food, she would use the 25 dollars to pay back the rent, assuring us all of a roof over our heads for a little while longer. She told us then there would be nothing for Christmas.
Unknown to Mum, I had been selling Christmas trees to earn enough money to buy a new pair of boots. Boots that weren't patched, boots with no cardboard in the soles. I knew exactly which boots I wanted. They were ten inch Top Genuine Pierre Paris and they had a price of 23 dollars.
Well, the big day came on the afternoon of Christmas Eve. I was excited, as I hurried up the road to the shoe store, but on the way I noticed a house with Christmas lights and decorations. It was then I realized at our house, we had no lights, no decorations, nor any money for Christmas goodies. I knew that we would have no turkey or ham for Christmas, and I felt sad.

第二部分
第一节
A
【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文,主要是建议家长要努力与自己的青少年时期的孩子沟通。
21.答案与解析:C 句意猜测题。根据上文“...suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents.”可判断出这句话意思是“儿子不愿与自己的父母交谈”。
22.答案与解析:B 细节理解题。第二段中“Now we joke that...The problem is figuring out which time is which.”告诉我们,使Tina和Mark感到最烦恼的是他们无法正确地了解自己女儿的想法。
23.答案与解析:D 标题归纳题。最后一段中“To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them.”
根据第二段最后一句“They left the corner of the screen door pushed out, creating an opening, a breach in the defense against unwanted insects.”
故选A。
26.答案与解析:C 推理判断题。根据最后一段最后一句“Above all, it has helped me become a more patient person and not burst out so easily.”

2.提分词句:upset, must be doing, take a deep breath, calm down, besides, be helpful to等。
参考范文:
Dear Alex,
I understand how upset you must be feeling and I'd like to give you some advice.
When you start to feel impatient, you can take a few deep breaths or leave the room for a while before doing or saying anything. That can help you regain control of yourself and calm down and think clearly. Besides, getting enough sleep at night, eating healthy meals and getting plenty of exercise can also help people feel relaxed and peaceful throughout the day. You can have a try.
I hope my advice will be helpful to you.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
参考范文:
As I continued walking I began to reconsider my plan. I was feeling a strange sense of guilt. Here I was going to buy a new pair of boots while my mother was home in tears. She would be trying to explain to us why there were no presents. Across the street from the bus stop was a big grocery store. I realized that 25 dollars I had worked so hard for could buy lights, decorations and a turkey. After finishing shopping, I went home.
With great excitement and tears in my eyes, I knocked on the door. I could hardly wait to see my mother's face! When Mum opened the door, some of the groceries fell onto the floor, and she just stood there. Holding back the tears, I said, “Merry Christmas!” That day I got enough hugs and kisses from Mum to last two lifetimes.单元检测卷(三)

I was in the seventh grade, and we had moved to New Jersey in November. By then, everyone already had had their own friends, and no one wanted to talk to a new girl. To make things worse, they put me in “Section L”. I found out later that everyone called Section L “Loserville”. It was sort of an open secret that it was the section for troublemakers and not so smart kids. When I found out, I wanted to scream. I had always been a good student and had amazing friends, and now everyone thought I was a loser!
I did text my friends in Illinois almost every night, especially my best friend, Ana. At first my friends wanted to hear all about it. But then some stopped texting back once I said something about how miserable I was. One night when I was texting with Ana,I complained about another friend who had just done that. Ana's texts came really fast for the next few minutes and they surprised me. She said that she was tired of hearing about how bad everything was in New Jersey, too. She said she did not want to hurt my feelings but that I needed to stop feeling so sorry for myself all the time, and I had to try to make things better.
The next day, I thought a lot about what Ana had said. She was right!
I wish I could say that everything changed overnight after that, but it didn't. I was still stuck in “Loserville”, and some people were still mean (苛刻) to me,even though I tried to just stay out of their way.
But what did change was me—I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and did something about making friends. I signed up to make sets for the school play. I met a lot of new people there, and suddenly I had friends to say hi to in the halls!
I still miss Illinois sometimes, but life in New Jersey isn't so hard anymore. Even though I couldn't change my situation, I could change my attitude—and that made all the difference.
24.“Loserville” is a section for ________.
A.smart students B.low achievers C.class leaders D.new comers
25.The writer complained all the time in the new environment because ________.
A.Ana didn't text back to her B.she was a good student
C.her friends hurt her feelings D.she was unfairly treated
26.What made a difference in changing the situation
A. She managed to go back to Illinois.
B. She ended the friendship with Ana.
C. She began to make friends with others.
D. She fought back with her classmates.
27.What can be the best title for the passage
A. Everlasting Friendship
B. Say Goodbye to “Loserville”
C. An Incident at School
D. Unhappiness in “Loserville”

A bargain is something offered at a low and advantageous price. A more recent definition is: a bargain is a dirty trick to force money out of the pockets of silly and innocent people.
The cost of producing a new—for example—toothpaste would make 80p the proper price for it, so we will market it at $1.20. It is not a bad toothpaste, and as people like to try new things, it will sell well to start with; but the attraction of novelty soon fades, so sales will fall. When that happens, we will reduce the price to $1.15. And we will turn it into a bargain by printing 5p OFF all over it.
Sometimes it is not 5p OFF but 1p OFF. What breathtaking rudeness to advertise 1p OFF your soap or washing powder or whatever! Even the poorest old age pensioner ought to regard this as an insult (侮辱), but he doesn't. A bargain must not be missed. People say one has to have washing powder (or whatever) and one might as well buy it a penny cheaper.
The real danger starts when unnecessary things become “bargains”. Many people just cannot resist bargains. Provided they think they are getting a bargain, they will buy clothes they will never wear or furniture they have no space for. Once I heard of a man who bought an electric saw as a bargain and cut off two of his fingers the next day. But he had no regrets: the saw had been truly cheap.
Quite a few people actually believe that they make money on such bargains. A lady once told me:“I've had a lucky day today. I bought a dress for $120, reduced from $400; and I bought a beautiful Persian carpet for $600, reduced from $900.” It will never occur to her that she has actually wasted $720. She feels as though she had made $580. She also feels, I am sure, that if she had more time for shopping, she could make a living out of it.
Some people buy in large quantities because it is cheaper. Once a couple bought enough sugar for their lifetime and the lifetime of their children and grandchildren. They thought it a bargain not to be missed. When the sugar arrived, they didn't know where to store it—until they realized that their toilet was a very spacious one. So that was where they piled up their sugar. Not only did their guests feel rather strange whenever they were offered sugar to put into their coffee, but the toilet became extremely sticky.
To offer bargains is a commercial trick to make the poor poorer. When greedy fools fall for this trick, it serves them right.

Friends play a very important part in everyone's life. Friendship usually develops during childhood. New friends are made when you progress through school. Those friends that you make as a student can usually last long. Friends influence your development, maturity (成熟) and sense of responsibility (责任). A familiar opinion is “You can tell a lot about a person by knowing who his friends are.” Friendship is based on common interests. If you like sports, most of your friends are likely to be active. If you enjoy reading and shopping, most of your friends do the same.
Some people call you their friends for the wrong reasons. These people are not really friends. They are superficial (表面的), only “friends” on the outside, not the inside where it counts. Superficial friends only want to be your friends if it is to their advantage. True friends are there whether you are rich or poor. It is easy to have many so called____“friends” if you are rich. By this time you should be able to recognize your friends as the real or the “phoney”.
True friends are most special. Sometimes they might not be easy to find, so you can consider yourself very lucky if you have one true friend. This friend is eager to help you whenever necessary. He or she knows you would do the same for them. A true friend is someone you can talk to about any subject or problem. You and your true friend have good understanding of each other. True friends support you, take your side, and build up your confidence.
32.What's the main idea of the first paragraph

33.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage

The bell rang, announcing the end of the vivid art class Karson loved most. He was delighted that he had created a very satisfying work. So he walked to the back of the classroom to put his work away carefully. There, lying on the floor in front of the classroom bookcase, was a golden ticket! Karson picked it up. His heart beat faster when he saw that the name line was blank. He couldn't believe his luck!
The boys and girls in Karson's class could earn golden tickets by doing well in their study or by being extra helpful or kind. Once a week their teacher drew a ticket out of the box on her desk and let the winner choose a prize.
Today was the golden ticket drawing, and here was another ticket, just for him! Karson looked around. No one else was near the ticket. All his classmates were at their desks, laughing and talking with each other. Miss Evans was engaged in grading the papers collected earlier in the morning.
Karson decided to write his name on the blank line. Then he could put it into the prize box with the six tickets he'd already earned. With so many chances, one of his tickets would most probably be picked! Then he could choose the pink toy pig for his sister's birthday, just like he had been hoping.
He smiled and reached for the pencil in his pocket. Suddenly his fingers stopped. There was a strange feeling in his chest, and it wasn't his heartbeat. It was “Finders, keepers”, right He wondered. He looked out of the window and tried to figure it out. On the one hand, he did find the ticket, but he hadn't earned it. Somebody must have lost it. But on the other hand, he did need this extra ticket for his great plan!

(Text 10)
Hello, Ryan. Thanks so much for your party! It was a big surprise and I really enjoyed it. I'm sorry that I had to leave early. My dad was worried about the traffic. In the end, we got to the airport at 8:00 pm, much too early. Then the flight finally took off after three hours. My mum wasn't very keen on flying, so she was quite stressed. Altogether, it wasn't much fun. Fortunately, New York time is five hours behind London, so it was still Sunday evening when we arrived.
New York is really different from London, and I feel quite strange. Yesterday my cousin Sam and I went to the Fifth Avenue. You've probably heard of it, which is famous for its amazing stores. I was surprised at the prices. Things are much cheaper here. Of course, I bought some presents for you and your family. I sent them to you by UPS Express. Now I'm quite tired of travelling, and I can't wait to go home in LA! Ryan, don't forget to call me back.Bye.

参考范文:
Karson stared at the blank name line for a moment. He knew his plan wouldn't be so great if he won with a ticket that didn't belong to him. So he walked up to his teacher.“Miss Evans, I happened to find this ticket on the floor near the bookcase. I think the one who lost it will look for it,” he said, dropping it on her desk. When he turned around to leave, the teacher stopped him.
“Karson, I'd like you to have another ticket!” said Miss Evans. Karson was amazed and wondered why. Miss Evans smiled and signed to the class to quiet down,“Karson handed in the golden ticket he had just found. I think he is honest and deserves another one!” The class burst into loud applause. Karson happily went back to his seat, eagerly expecting the ticket drawing. He still wanted his name to be picked, but he would feel OK even if it wasn't. I grew up and left home for college and since then, my dad had been calling me every Sunday morning. And when I bought a house several years later, my dad painted it by himself in the fierce summer heat. All he asked was to talk to him, but I was too busy in those days.
Four years ago, my dad visited me. He spent many hours putting together a swing for my daughter. He asked me to have a talk with him, but I had to prepare for a trip that weekend.
One Sunday morning we had a telephone talk as usual. I noticed that my dad had forgotten some things that we discussed lately. I was in a hurry, so our conversation was short. Several hours later that day I received a call. My father was in the hospital. Immediately, I bought a plane ticket and on my way I was thinking about all the occasions I missed to have a talk with my dad. By the time I arrived at the hospital, my father had passed away. Now it was he who did not have time for a conversation with me. I realized how little I knew about my dad, his deepest thoughts and his dreams.
After his death I learned much more about him and even more about myself. All he ever wanted was my time. And now he has all my attention every single day.

It was another day to jump rope in gym class. Lynn and Mike turned the long rope in big, slow circles. The whole class hurried to get in line to wait for their turn to jump. Millie stood at the back of the line and frowned.
Nick went first. He watched the rope and ran in at just the right time. Everyone counted. He made it all the way to 30 jumps. One after another, the kids watched the rope, ran in and jumped. Then it was Millie's turn. She watched the rope go around and around, but she didn't move. She felt like everyone was looking at her.
Millie's friends cheered, “Go, Millie, go!”
Millie's face turned red. At last, she gave it a try, but she failed.
The truth was that Millie had been jumping rope at home every day. With a short rope, she could jump 100 times without missing. She just didn't know how to run in and start jumping with a long rope. Since she was the only kid on her street, there was no one to help turn the long rope.
Just then, Ms Miles, the gym teacher, brought out a bunch of short jump ropes.
“Let's see how long each one of you can jump without missing,” she said as she gave each student a short rope. “Ready, set. Go!”
Millie smiled for the first time ever in gym class. As she jumped, she sang rhymes quickly to herself.
After a while, Millie realised that everyone was cheering, “Go, Millie, go!”

A study of 27,000 men showed those skipping breakfast were at a greater risk of heart problems. The British Heart Foundation said breakfast helped people resist sugary snacks before lunch.
The men, aged 45 82, were studied for 16 years. During that time there were more than 1,500 heart attacks or cases of deadly heart failure. However, people who skipped breakfast were 27% more likely to have heart problems than those who started the day with a meal. The researchers took into consideration other lifestyle risk factors such as smoking and exercise.
Researcher Dr. Leah Cahill told the BBC:“The take home message is to eat in the morning when you wake up, preferably within an hour. The results show that something is better than nothing, but it's always better to have something healthy and balanced.”
She said the timing of the meal seemed to be key and that waiting until lunch rather than “having breakfast” may be straining (损伤) the body over time. This could be increasing the risk of high blood pressure and fatness which could in turn damage the heart. “Don't skip breakfast,” Dr. Cahill suggested.
Victoria Taylor, an expert with the British Heart Foundation, said:“These researchers only looked at men aged over 45, so we would need to see further research to prove that breakfast has the same effect on the heart health of other groups of people. What we do know is that a healthy breakfast can make that mid morning biscuits less tempting,__as well as giving you another opportunity to widen the variety of foods in your diet. Cereals (谷类食品) with low fat milk are a good way to start the day. Try a banana or dried fruit on top and you'll be on your way to a fine day before you've even left the house.”
32.What does the text mainly deal with
A.The effects of snacks on the health of the heart.
B.An interview by the BBC on people's lifestyles.
C.What a healthy and balanced diet should contain.
D.The relationship between breakfast and a healthy heart.
33.Dr. Leah Cahill's suggestion is that we should ________.
A.fix the time for each meal we eat in a day
B.make sure our breakfast is always balanced
C.have breakfast within an hour after waking up
D.eat our breakfast immediately after getting up
34.The underlined word “tempting” in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to “________”.
A.attractive B.valuable C.obvious D.familiar
35.According to Victoria Taylor, ________.
A.men over 45 are more likely to get heart diseases
B.it's healthy to eat some biscuits between breakfast and lunch
C.fresh fruits like bananas are necessary for a healthy breakfast
D.the researchers should have covered other age groups in their study

When Lisa was a little girl, she learned an important lesson from her father. Her father told her that when facing a problem, she should never give up. Instead she should try another solution. In the following years, Lisa always remembered her father's words.
When Lisa was little, she dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. It was always her dream. But it was not an easy road. After leaving college, Lisa went to Paris with her designs in order to make her dream come true. In Paris, she tried to talk to famous designers and show them some of her designs, but none of them showed any interest.
Though Lisa was discouraged, she didn't give up. One day, at a friend's party, she was introduced to a young lady who was dressed in a beautiful knitted (针织的) sweater. It wasn't a fancy color, but it did have very special stitches (针法). Lisa asked that lady if she knitted it herself. She said it was a work of a lady in Paris.
Lisa really loved the special stitches and wanted to include them in her designs. And then Lisa had an even braver idea. “Why not own a fashion store of my own That way, I could design, make and sell my own clothes,” she thought. So she decided to begin with that kind of sweater.
Lisa's friend introduced her to Madam Dean who knitted that sweater. The lady was from Armenia and she learned to knit that kind of sweater from people in her country.
Lisa drew a picture of a sweater and asked Madam Dean to knit the sweater for her. Madam Dean agreed. One week later, Lisa got the sweater. The following day after Lisa received it, she wore it to a party in the fashion industry.
Lisa was very nervous but she was lucky. Not long after the party began, her sweater drew the attention of a store owner from New York. She wanted to order 40 such sweaters in two weeks. Lisa was really happy and accepted the order.

Thank you for inviting me to attend the party to be held this Friday evening at your apartment. I am terribly sorry to say that I can't come and I am writing to show my deep regret. It is a pity that I will lose this opportunity to communicate with you.
I would be grateful if you could listen to my explanation. My aunt will pay a visit to us on Friday evening and we haven't seen each other for ages, so I can't make any excuse to be absent.
It is my sincere hope that you can understand my situation and accept my apology.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,

The next day, Lisa told the good news to Madam Dean. She told her the order. Madam Dean almost shouted when she heard about that. “What 40 such sweaters in two weeks That's impossible! Do you know how long it took me to make the sweater for you It took me one week,” said Madam Dean. Lisa was very sad to hear that. But she didn't want to lose such a great opportunity. It was really important to her.
Lisa then remembered her father's words. She decided to find another solution. She thought that Madam Dean might not be the only one in Paris who knew how to knit that kind of sweater. She asked Madam Dean if she knew anyone else who could help her. Madam Dean then started to make some phone calls. Finally, she found 20 women who agreed to help her. At last, all the sweaters were finished in two weeks. The sweaters were all delivered to New York on time. Lisa was closer to her dream.单元检测卷(一)

September is a difficult month for all students as they return to continue their education, but for high school and university green hands, it is not just the heavy study tasks they need to follow. They will also go through military (军事的) training, which aims to help students improve their health and help them adapt to school life. The Ministry (部) of Education requires that universities should carry out at least 14 days' military training for freshmen.
Hou Zhengfang, an education expert, questioned the benefits of military training. “It does little to improve students' physical health over only two weeks' time,” she said. “Maybe some disaster prevention training, such as earthquake survival or escaping from fires, would be of greater benefit.”
A freshman who fainted (晕倒) during training said that many students, especially girls, were unwilling to train in direct sunshine. “For me, military training is physically challenging and even damages my health,” said the 19 year old.
Although Chu Jinjing, a Tsinghua University fresh man, did feel some discomfort while training in the heat, the 18 year old did recognize the benefits of military training. “By going through this tough (艰难的) training, I've become more independent and determined,” said Chu. “I have also managed to make a lot of friends.”
Wang Hui from Xi'an Jiaotong University sees the advantages of military training besides character building. “From senior high school to college, we join military training to start a new journey,” said Wang. “I would feel a bit incomplete without it.”
21.Hou Zhengfang might advise the Ministry of Education to ________.
A.cut students' heavy study tasks B.introduce other trainings for students
C.encourage students to work out D.shorten the time of military training
22.Chu Jinjing and Wang Hui mentioned all the benefits of military training EXCEPT ________.
A.developing friendship B.improving students' health
C.building character D.preparing students for college
23.According to the passage, what is the author's attitude towards military training

My school stood in a big square playground in southeastern South Dakota. One teacher taught all grades, first through eighth. Most grades had only two or three students.
Our school day started with the flag pledge (宣誓). Then the teacher called one grade at a time to the recitation bench beside her desk. She'd check our work, explain the new lesson, and dismiss us to go back to our own desks and do our new work, all in less than ten minutes per grade.
At noon we ate lunches we had brought. Our lunches were made up of homemade sandwiches and if we were lucky, dessert. My favourite dessert was a fresh pear, and a piece of Mum's delicious sour cream chocolate cake.
The annual Christmas programme was the most exciting part of the year. We hurried through our lessons during December to allow time to practise poems, songs, and plays.
A few days before the performance day, the school board members borrowed equipment from the town and set up a stage across one side of the classroom. We hung bed sheets for curtains.
On the evening of the performance, petrol lanterns hanging along the walls cast a warm, though not very bright, light over the gathering crowd. We could hardly contain our excitement as we looked from behind the curtains to wave at our parents.
On a spring Sunday in a new term, just before the last day of the school term, everyone in the neighbourhood gathered for a picnic. Our mums set fried chicken, bowls of salads, and desserts on the teacher's desk and the library table. After the dinner, we played games. One of the school board members brought big buckets of ice cream in the afternoon to top off the picnic. How we looked forward to that treat!
I was just nineteen years old when I started my first teaching position in a country school with thirteen students. I felt excited, nervous and happy as I prepared my lunch bucket the first morning of the term. I can't remember what kind of sandwiches I packed, but I do remember I put in a fresh pear and a piece of chocolate cake for dessert!

A.The teacher performed many jobs.
B.The students liked hanging lanterns.
C.The local people supported the school.
D.School board members were not expected to attend it.

A.These were easy items to pack in a lunch bucket.
B.Fruits and cakes were always good choices for dessert.

D.They were the only dessert she ate with her lunch or dinner.
27.What can be concluded from the text
A.The author was fond of cooking.
B.The author was very independent.
C.The author earned little from her job.
D.The author was happy though life was hard sometimes.

High school was a hard time for me in the beginning because I had just moved to a small town and knew basically no one. I loved to play basketball but was afraid to go to the tryout (选拔赛) for the school's team because I didn't know anyone. One day all that changed when I missed the bus home and decided to shoot baskets in the school playground to kill time. The coach Mr. Colbath had been watching me make various baskets and was pretty impressed with my moves.
He came up to me and asked me who had taught me to play like that. I told him that my dad had taught me how to play basketball. He asked me if he would see me at the tryout on Friday, but I said no and told him why. He told me to have a try because I played very well and would maybe make some friends on the court. After thinking for a few minutes, I finally decided to have a try.
On the day of the tryout, the coach came, found me and helped me practice before the tryout. He helped me a lot and I did very well at the tryout and many members of the team were quite impressed. I did make the team and over the next few years the coach helped me both on and off the court. He helped me do my math which I had such a difficult time with and he even taught me how to live independently.
I will never forget Mr. Colbath. He really inspired me and changed my life. I would not be the person that I am today if he had not taken such an interest in me when I was in high school.

It was a comfortable sunny Sunday. I was going to meet an old university friend I hadn't seen for years, and was really excited.
My train was running a little late, but that was no big problem—I could text him to say I would be late. He would understand. But where was my mobile phone I had that familiar sinking feeling. Yes, I'd left it at home.
No mobile phone. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling anxious, on__edge and worried when I don't have my phone with me. In fact, I know I'm not alone: two thirds of us experience nomophobia (无手机恐惧症), the fear of being out of mobile phone contact.
That's according to a study from 2012, which surveyed 1,000 people in the UK about their relationship with mobile phones.
It says we check our mobile phones 34 times a day, and that 18—24 year olds, especially girls, are the most likely to suffer fear of being without their mobiles: 77% of them say they are unable to be apart from their phones for more than a few minutes.
Do you have nomophobia
·You never turn your phone off.
·You frequently (频繁地) check for texts, missed calls and emails.
·You always take your phone to the bathroom with you.
·You never let the battery run out.
It's funny to think that around 20 years ago the only people with mobile phones would be businessmen carrying their large, plastic ‘bricks’ . Of course, these days, mobile phones are everywhere. A UN study from this year said there would be more mobile phones than people across the world by the end of 2020.
And when there are more phones than people in the world, maybe it's time to ask who really is in charge (主管). Are you in control of your phone, or does your phone control you
So, what happened with my university friend When I arrived a few minutes late, he just laughed and said, “You haven't changed at all—still always late!” And we had a great afternoon catching up, full of jokes and stories, with no desire (欲望) to check my phone. Not having the mobile phone with me makes me feel strangely free. Maybe I'll leave it at home on purpose next time.
32.What does the passage talk about
A.The history of mobile phones.
B.The story of meeting an old university friend.
C.The attraction of playing mobile phones.
D.The terrible feeling of being without the mobiles.
33.The underlined phrase “on edge” in the third paragraph probably means ________.
A.energetic B.nervous C.brilliant D.amazed
34.What's the author's attitude towards the use of mobiles
A.Worried. B.Positive. C.Neutral. D.Negative.
35.According to the passage, who is most likely to be addicted (上瘾的) to mobiles

C.A 21 year old boy. D.A lonely middle aged person.

Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible.
“Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?” Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum,” Peter said. “Mr. White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I've been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.”
Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school. At last, it was time for the students to have a test.“Responsibility,”Mr. White started. Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently.
“The second word: contribution,”Mr. White said.
“So easy,” Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I am to mark your papers now,” he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, “Three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter, David and Mary got full marks on the spelling test!”
Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter's was an English Chinese dictionary—the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. “This is my happiest moment,” Peter thought.
After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribusion” confused him. It didn't seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the word list. “C O N T R I B U S I O N,” he whispered. He spelled it wrong.
“What am I to do?” Peter said to himself. “I expect my classmates to think I'm a master at spelling. If I tell Mr. White one of my spelling words is wrong, I'll have to give my prize back, or I will become an example for telling a lie.”
Staring at the full marks written on his test paper, Peter was lost in thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an honest person.”

参考范文:
Dear Peter,
I'm sorry to know that you have trouble adapting yourself to senior high school. I am writing to offer some suggestions.
First of all, why not communicate with your teachers frequently By doing this, your teachers will know your inner thoughts and help you solve this problem. What's more, if I were you, I would be engaged in different kinds of activities held by class actively. More importantly, it would be a good idea if you make some friends with common interests. If you do this, you can share happiness and sadness with them, and they can also help you get rid of loneliness at high school.
I hope you will find these suggestions useful.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
参考范文:
Slowly, Peter raised his hand. “Mr. White, I didn't get full marks on the test. I made a mistake.” He stood up and handed his teacher the dictionary he liked best and his test paper, “I spelled contribution with ‘s-i’ instead of ‘t-i’.” Peter could feel his classmates looking at him with surprise as he walked back to his desk. Mr. White held up Peter's test paper. “Class,” he said, “Peter did something even more important than spelling every word correctly on a test.” Mr. White smiled at Peter,“He taught us all a lesson on being honest.”
Peter looked around. He found many of his classmates were smiling at him. “Peter, I want you to have this dictionary because you set a good example for all of us,” Mr. White said. Peter took the dictionary from his teacher and expressed his thanks to Mr. White. Meanwhile, he couldn't wait to show it to Mum and tell her one of his best days ever.
