underground station in London
Margaret
Margaret’ husband
wait at the station
A widow(寡妇), Margaret, would stay on the platform at the underground station every day. She looked forward to hearing “Mind The Gap”, which had been recorded by her husband 40 years earlier. Hearing “Mind The Gap” made her face light up. She felt heartbroken for losing her husband. “Mind The Gap” became the only connection between them.
She kept visiting the station for a decade. She never though it was a waste of time doing the same thing every day. On the contrary, she firmly believed that it was worthwhile waiting for her husband’s voice.
Story One
However, on November 1, 2013, she couldn’t help crying when she noticed that “Mind The Gap” had been replaced by a different voice. She tried to find out the reason. An underground worker tried comforting her. He told her the station had a new broadcast system and that it could not use the old recording anymore. Being told the news was unacceptable to her.
After hearing the moving love story, the underground staff were so moved that they found the recording and gave her a copy of the announcement on a CD. What’s more, Margaret appreciated being given the copy. Her husband’s announcement was restored(恢复) at the station. Knowing she could sit and listen to “Mind The Gap” again was a huge comfort to her.
