To lift something from the floor correctly, first bend your knees and squat down. Keep your back and hips(臀部) and waist (腰部) in a line. If you bend over, the muscles ( ~ I$1 ) in your lower back can become hurt easily. If you keep your back and hips straight, the muscles are stronger, because they have much more support. The other muscles can then help the lower back muscles.
As you squat down, try to get close to the object as possible. For example, if you are going to pick up a heavy box, squat down directly in front of it.
Maybe you will have to spread your knees and legs. Put one knee on each side of the box. Remember at all times to keep your back straight.
Put your hands under the object that is in front of you, between your knees.
To lift the object, you should stand up slowly. Use your muscles in order to stand up. In other words, lift with your legs, not with your back.

We may be very pleased with the rapid progress we have made in every field of study. But the way to test a student's knowledge and ability still remains as poor as it was, We have almost done nothing to improve our examination system.
It is well known that the examination system we are now using may be a good way of testing a student's memory, but it can tell you nothing about a student's ability. It does no good to students and teachers.
As soon as a child begins school,he enters a world of examination that will decide his future of job.
In fact a good examination system should train a student to think for himself. But it now does nothing about that. So students are encouraged to member what is taught. Last summer I learnt to ride a bicycle. At first?,I was unable to control it's direction. Sometimes I fall to the right or to the left. But I asked my father to tell me how I could ride straightly. He didn't answer me directly. Instead, he took me to side of the street. “Can you find some bike track that is really straight?” asked my father. I watched more carefully and shook my head .“No?” he said, “in fact neither of the tracks is always straight. But just by correct the direction every now and then, you had already gone forward.”

“One World, One Dream” is the simple but meaningful slogan adopted for the Beijing Olympic Games. It fully reflects the Olympic spirit and highlights the theme that the whole mankind lives in the same world and seeks for the same dream and ideal. Qinhuangdao is a city to host some of the football events of the Olympics. That's why the slogan is frequently seen there.
People throughout the world live together like members of a huge family, sharing the same home, the earth. It is everyone's dream to build our world into a paradise, where there's no poverty, no disease and no war. To make the dream come true, we should make common efforts to protect the environment, develop science and technology, and promote international friendship. When people from all over the world come together for the Beijing Olympics, we're actually stepping forward towards the realization of that shared dream.

“It's really cool to have a dad who flies fighter jets,” thought 11-year-old Casey as she was watching her dad flying overhead. Living on an Air Force base was not as bad as some people might think. Casey rather enjoyed staying with some friends who had something in common with each other. She especially loved the time when her dad would come home each day and greet her with a new joke.
Today was different, though. When her dad walked in the door, he looked sad for some reason. Casey didn't like that look. Her dad just kissed her on the forehead and told her mom that he needed to talk to her. Casey knew something was wrong.
As her parents came out of the other room, mom was crying. Dad sat down and began to explain to her that he was called on to go to Iraq and that he would leave for one year. Consider, for instance, the writing skill of spelling. In a recent survey, Graham reported that when children learn to spell some words incidentally(偶然地) or informally as they read or write, good spellers learn many more words through these methods than poor spellers. On the other hand, direct spelling instruction improves the spelling performance of both good and poor spellers. But it is unlikely that such instruction can account for all the necessary growth to become an excellent speller. For example, adults can typically spell 10,000 or more words correctly, but are only taught how to spell about 3,000 words while in school and not all those words are mastered. Therefore, both formal and informal methods should be stressed. This does not mean, however, that equal amounts of both should be provided. Instead, the level of formal and informal instruction needed by individual children, will vary and should be adjusted(调整). With balanced instruction, the fulcrum(支点) is the child, and balance depends on what the child needs.
This same principle also applies to considerations about the role of meaning, process, and form in writing instruction since skilled writing depends on all three. The amount of emphasis placed on each area should be adjusted so that it is consistent(一致的) with the needs of the child. For example, Juel found that some children who were poor writers had difficulties with both form and process, whereas others had difficulties with just one or the other. Thus, some of the students should be given additional help in both areas, whereas other students needed help in only one.
44.The paragraph before this passage may be about ________.
A.children's need
B.balance between meaning and process
C.emphasis on spelling
D.writing instruction
45.From the first paragraph, we can draw a conclusion that ________.
A.both the formal and informal instructions will be used
B.spelling words without instructions will be more effective
C.the instruction is perfect to explain the growth to be a good speller
D.adults can spell words better than children in every way
46.The passage puts stress on ________.
A.the writing skills of spelling
B.how to spell better
C.balanced instruction to the students need in writing
D.principle about the role of writing
47.What is the most suitable title for this passage?

The American turkey is famous for some of its characteristics. The bird can run at a speed of more than 20 miles per hour, and it can fly in short bursts at a speed of more than 50 miles per hour. Turkeys have excellent eyesight and hearing. If they have a sharp sense of smell, they would be almost impossibly forgetful.
There are two signs of turkey presence. One is their V-like scratches(抓痕) while getting food. And the other is the male turkey's beaks, which are the size of a small finger with a bend at one end, like the letter “J”.
Native Americans in the Southwest and Mexico kept turkeys for feathers and food, and the birds with their alarm calls probably were good “watch dogs” as well. The Indians used the feathers in ceremonies, and used the feathers to form blankets. They hollowed out the large leg bones to serve as whistles.
The Spanish transported wild turkeys from Mexico to Europe for domestication(驯养) in the 16th century. European settlers brought domesticated turkeys back to the New World. Finally, local decrease of wild turkeys paralleled(平衡) the European settlers' spread across America. Today, widespread re-introduction programs are under way to return the five species of wild turkeys to their native habitats.
In the late 1770's, Benjamin Franklin suggested that the turkey should be the symbol for the United States. He argued that the Bald Eagle was no better than a fish-eater. The American turkey lost to the Bald Eagle by a single congressional vote.
48.The turkey is most famous for________.

Recently I made a survey of senior 3 students on physical training.
Only 35% of the surveyed students do sports. There are many reasons for this. Half of the students say they have too much homework and have not enough time to do exercise. 30% of them complain that they have no places where they can relax themselves and that there are not enough training facilities. 10% feel that they live too far away from the places and some even don't know how to take exercise.
Because of lack of physical activities, many students are in poor health. We should realize the importance of taking exercise, and measures should be taken to improve the present situation. It would be greatly appreciated that our government and social organizations as well could offer some financial aid.

(A)
First aid is emergency care for a victim of sudden illness or injury until more skillful medical treatment is available. It may save a life or improve certain vital(生命的)signs including pulse, temperature, a clear airway(气道), and breathing. In minor emergencies, first aid may prevent a victim's condition from turning worse and provide relief from pain. First aid must be administered as quickly as possible. In the case of the critically injured, a few minutes can make the difference between complete recovery and loss of life.
First-aid measures depend upon a victim's needs and the provider's level of knowledge and skill. Knowing what not to do in an emergency is as important as knowing what to do. Improperly moving a person with a neck injury, for example, can lead to permanent spinal (脊柱的) injury and paralysis (瘫痪).
Despite the variety of injuries, several principles of first aid apply to all emergencies. The first step is to call for professional medical help. The victim, if conscious, should be reassured that medical aid has been requested, and asked for permission to provide any first aid. Next, assess the scene, asking other people or the injured person's family or friends about details of the injury or illness, any care that may have already been given, and pre-existing conditions such as diabetes (糖尿病)or heart trouble. Unless the accident scene becomes safe or the victim may suffer further injury, do not move the victim.
First aid requires rapid assessment of victims to determine whether life-threatening conditions exist. One method for evaluating a victim's condition is known by the acronym (首字母缩写)ABC, which stands for:
A—Airway: Is it open and clear?
B—Breathing: Is the person breathing? Look, listen, and feel for breathing.
C—Circulation: Is there a pulse? Is the person bleeding externally (表面)? Check skin colour and temperature for additional indications of circulation problems.
1. What is the main idea of this article?
A. First aid is more important than professional medical treatment.
B. First aid is important, but should be provided properly.
C. First aid can be provided by any person.
D. First aid requires assessment.

A. It may save a life or improve vital signs.
B. It may stop a victim's condition getting worse.
C. It may help reduce a victim's pain.
D. It can't make any difference to a victim's condition.
3. If first aid is given improperly, what could be the result?

①Ask for the victim's permission.
②Call for professional medical help.
③Get some details of the injury or illness.
④Take first aid measures.
⑤Make assessment of the victim.
A. ①②③④⑤ B. ②①③⑤④ C. ②①⑤③④ D. ②⑤①③④
5. If the victim's skin colour and temperature are not normal, according to the passage, what could
be the cause?
A. The airway being closed. B. No breathing.
C. Some circulation problems. D. Not mentioned.
(B)
Suppose a man has a car accident. He is hurt badly and unconscious(无知觉的); that is, he can't think, speak, or hear. His family take him to the hospital. The doctors tell the famliy that his brain is dead. A machine can make him breathe.
Now the patient's family must answer some difficult questions. Should they think he is dead? Should they ask the doctors to use the machine to make him breathe? Sometimes machines can make an unconscious person breathe for years. However, if his brain is dead, he'll never think, speak, or hear again. Then, should his family ask the doctors not to use the machine and let him die?
Someone who is unconscious can't say he wants to die. Can his family say this for him? Some people think this is a good idea. Some think otherwise(相反).
Many people are hurt when machines keep a person alive. The unconscious person doesn't know this. Machines only make the family and friends hurt longer.

2. A
解析:根据句义这里在讲电子词典,所以选electronic(电子的)。electric用电的。electrical
put one's hands
on sth意为get sth。 throw one's hand
turn one's hand to指“着手做,能够做”。
4. C
leave out 指“掉”。 squeeze
get done在意义上接近be done,含被动意义。
7. B
解析:want to后面省略了be a doctor。
符号to。
8. B
解析:than后省略了she was。
10. A
if后面省略了与主句相同的主语the situation和be动词。
11. C
以完整的从句应该是when he was lost in thought,从句省略了when he was。
12. D
No,I haven't been to
Beijing。
13. D
解析:答语中的Not at all表示对方愿意照顾猫,所以A和B与题意相悖,C不合题意,
I'd be happy to look after your cat。
14. A
possibility
1. injury 2. affect 3. burned 4. layers 5. nerves 6. symptoms
1. The skin, which can protect us against diseases, poisons and sun's harmful rays, is an essential
part of our body and it is also our body's largest organ.
2. First aid treatment can help prevent the victim's conditions from getting worse.
3. As to minor degree burns, cooling the burns with cool water over and over again can reduce
pain.
4. If the bandage is not held in place, it may stick to the burns.
5. There is no doubt that if we have a knowledge of first aid, we will make a difference when an
emergency occurs.
2. A
4. D
解析:后面提到了open his or her mouth,所以应该是停止呼吸,故用breathing。
5. A
injury
11. A
strike
13. A
turn into使变成。turn on打开。
18. A
解析:“火灭了”应该是fire is out。
19. B
解析:electricity n. electric adj. electrical adj. electrify
Check skin colour and temperature for additional indications of
circulation problems.”,故选C。
6. B
7. A

Last Saturday afternoon, the weather was so fine that I was having a walk along the river bank near my home with my friend. Suddenly we heard someone crying for help. We ran to the river and found a boy just fell into the river. Without hesitation, we jumped into the river and saved the boy. He was unconscious, so we used a mouth-to-mouth way to start his breath. After the boy came to himself, we sent him to the hospital. Then we phoned his parents and left the hospital before they arrived. It was really an unforgettable day.
