●There are a great number of rivers in China.中国的河流数量很多。
◎观察思考:1.A number of the students are playing football.许多学生在踢足球。
2.The number of the students in our school is 2 000.我校的学生人数是两千人。
◎用法总结:1.a number of为量词短语,表示“许多……”,其中心词是这个短语所修饰的复数名词,所以作主语时,谓语动词用复数形式。如:
A number of students of our school have read that magazine.我们学校有很多学生都看过那本杂志。
A number of wild animals have been found in the forest.森林里发现了很多野生动物。
2.the number of...表示“……的数量”,其中心词为number,因此谓语动词用单数。如:
The number of students in our school has grown from 1 000 to more than 1 500.我们学校学生的数量从1000名增加到1500多名。

◎观察思考:1.Bring me some water, please.请给我取点儿水来。
2.Take my box to my room.把我的箱子拿到房间去。
3.Please carry this bag for me.请帮我拿一下这个包。
4.She has gone to get/fetch water.她去打水去了。
◎用法总结:bring、take与carry都是及物动词,含“带;拿”的意思,但用法却差别很大。bring是指把人或物从别处带到说话人所在的地方。
take是指把人或物从说话人的地方带到别处去。
carry不表示动作的方向,一般指随身携带,如“扛”“提”“运”等。
get和fetch 指“到别处去把某人或某物带来或拿来”。
