一般过去时（1）：was/were
一、什么是一般过去时态
　　一般过去时态表示过去发生的动作或过去存在的状态。
　　对比记忆：
　　一般现在时态：表示经常性、反复性发生的动作或现在存在的状态。
　　一般过去时态：表示过去某个时间发生的动作或过去存在的状态。　　
二、be动词的一般过去时
　　表示过去存在的状态，用be动词的过去式was或were。

四、各种句式结构
肯定句：He was in Grade Eight last year. 去年他在八年级。
　　否定句： He was not in Grade Eight last year. 去年他不在八年级。
　　一般疑问句：Was he in Grade Eight last year 去年他在八年级吗？
　　肯定回答：Yes, he was. 是的，他在。
　　否定回答：No, he wasn’t. 不，他不在。
　　特殊疑问句：What grade was he in last year 去年他在几年级？
　　
肯定句 主语 + was / were +表语+其他.
否定句 主语 + was / were not+表语+其他.
一般疑问句 Was/Were +主语+表语+其他
肯定回答：Yes, … was / were.
否定回答：No, … wasn’t / weren’t.
特殊疑问句 疑问词 + was / were +主语+表语+其他
五、there be句型的一般过去时
　
There was a big garden behind the house. 房子后面有一个大花园。
There weren’t any interesting things to do then. 那时没有什么有趣的事情可做。

　How many rooms were there 有多少个房间？
肯定句 There was + a / an + 单数名词+其他.
There was +不可数名词+其他.
There were +复数名词+其他.
否定句 There wasn’t / weren’t …
一般疑问句 Was/ were there +主语+其他
肯定回答：Yes, there was / were.
否定回答：No, there wasn’t / weren’t.
特殊疑问句 How many / much … was / were there +其他

Nelson Mandela was born in a small village in the Transkei region of South Africa. He was born on 18th July , 1918. He was President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.
（1）Hero of South Africa 南非英雄
hero 为可数名词，意为“英雄”，其复数形式为 heroes。类似的单词还有：
tomato → tomatoes，potato → potatoes。以 o 结尾的名词如 photo，radio，piano 等变
复数时直接在末尾加“s”。
（2）He was born on 18th July，1918. 他出生于 1918 年 7 月 18 日。
年月日的表达　在英语中，年月日的表达通常有两种方式，即“月 + 日 + 年”或“日 +
月 + 年”。“1998 年 5 月 5 日”写作 May 5th 1998 或 5th May，1998。
