原级——比较级——最高级。
1. 构成
形容词的比较级和最高级的构成有规则变化和不规则变化两种。
Grammar
1)单音节和绝大部分双音节形容词的比较级和最高级变化：
情况 变化形式 举例
—般情况 在词尾直接加-er或-est small—smaller—smallest
以e结尾 加-r或-st large—larger— largest
以辅音字母 y结尾 变y为i，再加 -er 或-est happy—happier— happiest
以一个元音字母加一个辅音字母结尾，且是重读闭音节 将该辅音字母双写再加-er或-est fat—fatter—fattest

常用“最高级+比较范围”结构，比较范围常用of, in, among引导的短语表达。
如：
China is one of the oldest countries in the world.
