Period 1 (Section A 1a-2d)
设计说明
  本课时的重点是介绍过去进行时的含义及其构成形式。在用现在进行时对话的过程中,创设情境自然导入过去进行时,这样学生易于理解和掌握。然后通过听说练习,对所学时态进行巩固,这样既提高了学生的应用能力,又锻炼了学生的听说能力。在学习过程中,鼓励学生两两合作,小组成员互动,并给学生提供小小的物质奖励,这样可以提高学生的参与热情,又能培养学生的合作意识,形成良好的学习英语的氛围。
教学目标
  1. 知识目标
  (1)掌握单词和短语:rainstorm,alarm,begin,heavily, suddenly,strange;go off,pick up(= pick up the phone)。
  (2)掌握句型:①What was the girl doing at the time of the rainstorm ②What were you doing last night,Linda ③When you called,I was taking a shower.
  (3)理解过去进行时的含义并掌握其构成。
  2. 能力目标
  (1)掌握本课时单词、短语和句型。
  (2)理解并能正确运用过去进行时表达过去正在发生的事情,学会简单描述过去发生的事情。
  3. 情感目标
  面对突然来临的自然灾害,增强自我保护意识和应对能力。

教学过程
  Step 1 Warming up & Leading in
  1. Greet the students and show pictures to them.
  T:Hello,boys and girls. Please look at this picture. What’s the girl doing
  S1:She is doing her homework.
  S2:She is studying.
  ...
  T:What are we doing now
  Ss:We are having an English class.
  T:Yes. And we are going to study something new today.
  2. Using the pictures and objects to teach the new words and phrases:rainstorm,alarm,go off,begin,heavily,suddenly,pick up,strange.
  (1)(Show the class a picture of rain.)
  T:Look at the picture. What’s the weather like
  Ss:It’s raining hard.
  T:Yes. It’s raining heavily and the wind is blowing strongly. It’s a rainstorm.
  (2)(Show the class an alarm.)
  T:What’s this
  Ss:It’s a clock.
  T:Yes. It’s an alarm clock. We can also say it’s an alarm.
  (Set the time and get the alarm to go off.)
  T:Listen! The alarm begins to go off.
  (3)(Put a telephone on the desk. Suddenly it rings.)
  T:(In surprise.)Oh,the telephone is ringing. I pick up the telephone and say that’s a strange man. I don’t know him.
  3. Then read the new words and phrases and try to remember them.
  4. Check the class.

  Step 2 Practice
  1. Show the pictures on page 33 on the screen.
  T:There was a big rainstorm last night. What were the people doing at the time of the rainstorm Please look at the four pictures and answer the four questions.
  (1)Where was the girl in Picture a and what was she doing when the rainstorm came
  She was in her house and she was doing her homework.
  (2)Where was the boy in Picture b and what was he doing
  He was in the library and he was reading a book.
  (3)Where was the woman in Picture c and what was she doing
  She was at the bus stop and she was waiting for the bus.
  (4)What was the weather like in Picture d
  It was windy and rainy.
  2. Work on 1a.
  (1)First read each sentence to the class and ask students to repeat.
  (2)Then ask students to look at the pictures and match the statements with the people in the picture.
  (3)Check the answers.

  Step 3 Listening
  Work on 1b.
  1. Ask students to read the words and phrases in 1b,and make sure they can understand them.
  2. Tell students what they are going to do.
  3. Play the recording for the first time. Students listen and circle the correct responses.
  4. Check the answers.

c. waiting for the bus d. walking home
  5. Play the recording again. Students listen and repeat.
  Step 4 Pair work
  Work on 1c.
  Ask two students to read the sample dialogue to the class.
  S1:What was the girl doing at the time of the rainstorm
  S2:She was...
  T:Good. Sit down,please. Now work with your partner. Start by reading the conversation in the box with your partner. Then look at the other people in the pictures and have conversations about these people. Use the words and phrases from Activity 1b. Understand OK. Begin,please.
  As students talk,move around the classroom checking their work. Offer language support.
  In the end,ask several pairs of students to show their conversations to the class. Give them small presents if they do their work well.
  Step 5 Listening
  1. Work on 2a.
  Before listening:Have students look at the pictures carefully. Try to predict the order of the pictures. Read the sentences beside the pictures and pay attention to them while listening.
  (1)Tell students what they are going to do.
  (2)Play the recording for the first time. Students just listen.
  (3)Play the recording again. Students listen and number the pictures.
  (4)Check the answers.
  Answers:4 1 5 3 2
  2. Work on 2b.
  (1)Play the recording for the third time. Students fill in the blanks in the sentences in 2a.
  (2)Check the answers.
  Answers:was,looking;woke;ate;was waiting;ran
  (3)Play the recording again. Students listen and repeat.
  (4)Complete the passage according to 2a & 2b.
  Yesterday was a terrible day. My alarm didn’t go off so I woke up late. It was seven thirty when I woke up,and I needed to be at school by eight! I ran to the bus stop... but,I still missed the bus. It was eight thirty when I got to school. My teacher was angry and I felt bad all day. At four thirty,it was time to go home. I was waiting for the bus when... all of a sudden... it began to rain heavily. It was like... a really crazy rainstorm! I thought I had an umbrella in my schoolbag,so I kept trying to look for it. I was so busy looking for the umbrella that I didn’t see a car coming. And it got water all over me! I was waiting like that... completely wet... for maybe almost an hour. Finally,the bus came and brought me home. I took a hot shower and ate some warm food. It felt so good to be home!
  3. Work on 2c.
  T:Now work with your partner. Use the information in 2a to retell the story in a conversation between the boy and the TV reporter.
  Step 6 Role-play(work on 2d)
  1. Read the conversation and answer the following questions.
  (1)Why didn’t Linda pick up when Mary called her at first
  Because Linda was in the kitchen helping her mom.
  (2)What was Linda doing at eight o’clock
  Linda was taking a shower.
  (3)What was Linda doing when Mary called her at nine
  Linda was sleeping.
  (4)Why did Linda go to sleep so early
  Because Linda was tired.
  (5)Why did Mary call Linda
  Because Mary needed help with her homework.
  2. Students work in groups. Read the conversation again,and try to understand the conversation.
  As students work,move around the classroom and give students necessary help.
  3. Students work in groups to role-play the conversation.
  As students work,move around the classroom offering language support.
  4. Ask several groups to role-play the conversation.
  5. Complete the passage from memory.
  Mary needed help with her homework. So she called Linda three times last night,but Linda didn’t pick up. When Mary called at seven,Linda was helping her mother in the kitchen. Mary called her again at eight,but she didn’t answer either,because she was taking a shower. Mary called her again at nine,but Linda was sleeping at that time. She slept so early because she was tired. At last,Mary called Jenny and she helped her.
  Step 7 Cooperative inquiry
  Discuss the following language points in groups and fill in the blanks.
  1. go off 的用法
  (1)意为“闹钟(发出响声)”。
  When I was dreaming,the alarm went off.
当我正在做梦时,闹钟响了。
  (2)意为“(灯)熄灭;停电”。
  Lights will go off if no one is in the room.
如果房间里没有人,灯会熄灭。
  2. begin的用法
  begin意为“开始”,其后既可以接动词不定式,也可以接动词-ing形式,意为“开始做某事”。
  注意:当出现以下三种情况时必须使用动词不定式:
  (1)当主语为物时。
   The ice began to melt. 冰开始融化了。
  (2)当begin后的动词是表示 心理活动的词,如know, think,understand等时。
  I began to understand how hard my parents work.
  我开始明白我的父母工作是多么辛苦。
  (3)当begin在句中是“beginning”的形式时。
   We are beginning to play the piano.
我们开始弹钢琴。
  【拓展】begin with... 以……开始;用……开头
  3. pick up的用法
  (1)pick up意为“接电话”,相当于pick up the phone。 该短语为“动词+副词”结构,当宾语是人称代词时,要放在pick和up之间。
  I am taking a shower. Could you please pick up my phone
  我正在洗澡。请你帮我接一下电话好吗?
  (2)pick up还可表示“捡起”。
  My pen is on the ground. Please pick it up for me.
  我的钢笔在地上。请帮我捡起来。
  (3)pick up还可表示“接(某人)”。
  It’s ten o’clock. I must go to the airport to pick up my sister. 现在十点了。我必须去机场接我妹妹。
  Step 8 Summary
  From this lesson,we have learned:

Ⅰ. 1. suddenly 句意:当我横穿街道时,一辆车突然驶过来。suddenly意为“突然”,符合句意。
2. heavily 根据后面“地上有太多的水”可推知,此处意为“昨晚下了如此大的雨”。heavily用来形容雨、雪下得很大。
3. began 本句表示当一个动作正在进行时,另一个动作发生。主句用一般过去时,时间状语从句用过去进行时。
4. off 根据后面I was late for school可知,“我”迟到了,故此处意为“我的闹钟没响”。go off意为“(闹钟)发出响声”,故填off。
5. pick pick up the phone是固定短语,意为“接电话”,didn’t后接动词原形,故填pick。
Ⅱ. 1. was watching 由at nine last night可知句子应用过去进行时,其构成为:was/were +现在分词;主语he是第三人称单数,因此要填was watching。
2. were,doing 由提示词then可知句子应用过去进行时;因为主语the twins是复数,因此谓语要用“were+现在分词”。
3. Was,drawing;wasn’t 由问句句意“老师进来时莉莉正在画一只猫吗?”可知,此处表示一个动作发生时另一个动作正在进行;when引导的时间状语从句用一般过去时,因此主句应用过去进行时。由答语no可知是作否定回答,因此要用wasn’t。
4. Were,having 由at that time 可知句子应用过去进行时,本句主语为you,be动词应用were,注意句首单词的首字母应大写;have的现在分词为having。
5. is playing 由提示词now可知,句子应用现在进行时,其结构为:am/is/are +现在分词。由主语Jim可知be动词应用is,play的现在分词为playing。
Ⅲ. 1. A pick up意为“捡起,接(某人)”;give up意为 “放弃”;pick up和give up都为“动词+副词”型短语,人称代词作宾语时放动词和副词中间,故排除C、D两项。根据从句“when he saw a wallet on the ground(当他看到一个钱包在地上时)”可知,他立刻捡了起来,pick up符合句意,故选A。
2. D get off“下车”;take off“(飞机)起飞,脱下(衣服)”;go away“离开”;go off“(闹钟)发出响声”。由“今天早上我上学迟到了”可知,“因为我的闹钟没有响”。故选D。
3. C 根据后句“It made me scared.(它让我恐惧)”可知,“我”刚才听到了一种奇怪的声音,strange意为“奇怪的”,符合句意,故选C。
