设计说明
本节课的重点是通过本节课的学习,学生能掌握一定的听力技巧,独立完成本节课的听力任务并能用过去进行时讲述发生在自己身边的小故事。为了降低听力难度,在听力练习前,老师可以先设计对话、练习题来对过去进行时的用法进行充分的复习。在教授新的单词和短语之后,利用1a中的活动为听力练习做一个铺垫,为下一步的听力做好准备。在听的过程中,要做好过程指导,并把情感教育巧妙地融入课堂教学当中。
教学目标
1. 知识目标
(1)掌握单词和短语:realize;make one’s way。
(2)掌握句型:①Kate realized her bag was still at home. ②When the school basketball competition started,Kate was still making her way to school. ③While I was running back home,I saw a dog by the side of the road.
2. 能力目标
(1)掌握一定的听力技巧,能独立完成本节课的听力任务。
(2)能用过去进行时讲述发生在自己身边的小故事。
3. 情感目标
虽然生活中我们会发生各种小意外,以致参加活动时迟到或者无法参加提前安排好的活动,但是我们仍然要养成守时的习惯,尽量预留充分的时间并做好一定的准备,做一个准时守约的人。

Step 1 Revision & Warming up
1. Have students translate some sentences about the past progressive tense in last lesson. Then review how to use when and while.
Do the following exercises.
(1)They were playing(play)football on the playground when it began(begin)to rain.
(2)A strange box arrived(arrive)while we were talking(talk).
(3)John was sleeping(sleep)when someone stole (steal)his car.
(4)Father was taking(take)a shower when I got(get)up yesterday morning.
(5)Grandma was cooking(cook)breakfast while I was washing(wash)my face this morning.
(6)Mother was sweeping(sweep)the floor when I left(leave)home.
2. Free talk.
For example:

T:Think of a time when you were late for or couldn’t go to an event. What was the event What was the reason why you were late or couldn’t go Tell your partner the story. For example,last Sunday,I missed a class party. While I was making my way to the party,I saw an old man sitting by the road. It seemed that he was seriously ill. So I took him to the hospital and called his daughter. And then,when I got to the party,no one was there.
Make sure the students understand what to do.
2. Give the students several minutes to think. While they are thinking,walk around the classroom and give them some help when it’s necessary.
3. Ask some students to tell their stories.
Step 4 Listening
1. Work on 1b.
T:People sometimes miss important events. Let’s listen to the conversation between Kate and John,and find out the answers to the questions in 1b. First,you need to read the questions.

(1)Play the recording for the first time. Students should get the main idea.
(2)Play the recording again. Students write down the answers to the questions.

When she got to the bus stop, Kate realized that her bag was still at home.
While she was running back home, she saw a dog by the side of the road and it was hurt.
(2)Play the recording again and ask the students to complete the passage.
Kate:What a day I had! When I got to the bus stop,I realized that my bag was still at home! But while I was running back home,I saw a dog by the side of the road and it was hurt. I wanted to call the Animal Helpline,but I didn’t have my phone so I had to wait for someone to walk by. Then I used his phone to call the helpline. Therefore,I didn’t make it to the competition.
(3)Ask the students to retell the passage.
Step 5 Cooperative inquiry
Discuss the following language points in groups and fill in the blanks.
过去进行时与一般过去时的区别:
区别一:过去进行时表示在过去某一时刻或某一段时间内正在进行或发生的动作;一般过去时表示过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的状态。
He was writing a composition at eight o’clock last night.
他昨晚8点钟在写作文。
He wrote a composition last night.
他昨晚写了一篇作文。
区别二:表示过去的状态、感觉及心理活动的静态动词(如be,like,love,hate,hear,see,know,want)可用于一般过去时,但通常不用于过去进行时。
I hated it when a man spoke with his mouth full of food.
我讨厌人们说话时满嘴食物。
区别三:一般过去时与always连用时,表示过去经常性、习惯性的动作;而过去进行时与 always连用时,常带有感彩。
He always got up at six last year.
他去年总是6点起床。
He was always thinking of his work.
他总是一心想着工作。

答案与解析:
Ⅰ. 1. were,doing 句意:“昨天我们吃晚饭时你在做什么?”由句意可知两个动作同时发生,故此处应用过去进行时。
2. won 由last year可知,句子应用一般过去时,win的过去式为won。
3. playing see sb. do sth. 表示“看到某人做某事”;see sb. doing sth. 表示“看到某人正在做某事”。由句意可知,“我”向窗外看时,看到一些男孩正在踢足球,因此应用playing。
4. left 句意为“她意识到她把作业落在家里了”。由realized可知,从句应用一般过去时,leave的过去式为left。
5. was,making 句意为“开始上课时,珍妮还在前往学校的路上”。此句表示在过去某一时刻(开始上课时)某一个动作(前往学校)正在进行,因此用过去进行时。
