设计说明
本课时的重点是学会使用形容词和句型“What does/do...look like ”来描述人们的外貌,可以采用图片、多媒体课件等直观教学法来完成教学任务。在初步掌握描述人物的单词和句型后,以学生的兴趣为出发点,采用猜谜游戏法,培养学生用英语表达信息和收集处理信息的能力,培养学生善于观察和描述人物特征的能力和与人合作的意识。
教学目标
1. 知识目标:
(1)掌握单词和短语:curly,straight,tall,medium,height,thin,heavy;(be) of medium height。
(2)掌握句型:
—What does he/she look like
—He/She is tall and has long hair.
—What do you look like
—I’m thin.

(1)学会描述人物外貌以及询问别人的外貌。
(2)能结合实际生活对所学单词、短语及句型进行灵活运用。

准备1b的音频文件,多媒体课件,搜集一些人物图片,准备学生调查用的表格。
教学过程
Step 1 Warming up & Leading in
1. Play a part of Big Head Son and Little Head Father. Then ask the students to talk about the son and the father.
2. Free talk:
T:How many people are there in your family
Who are they
Is your mother tall/short/beautiful...
Step 2 Presentation
1. Present the words and a phrase:heavy,thin;(be) of medium height.
T:Do you know who he is
Ss:He is Jason.
T:What does he look like (板书)
Ss:He is heavy.
T:She is Susan. Is she heavy
Ss:No,she is thin.
T:She is Jane. What does she look like
Ss:She is of medium height.
Then let the students describe the people mentioned above with the words like this:Jason is heavy. Susan is thin and Jane is of medium height.
2. Present the words:tall,short.
T:Is Joe tall
Ss:Yes,he is very tall.
T:Is Amy tall
Ss:No,she is short.
T:What do you look like
Ss:...
Have the students describe their two classmates using the new words.
3. Present the new words:straight,curly,hair.
T:Who is she
Ss:She is Susan.
T:Does she have long hair
Ss:No,she has short hair.
T:Is her hair straight
Ss:Yes. It’s straight.
T:Yes,she has short straight hair. Look,what does Becky look like
Ss:She has long curly hair.
Then have the students describe their friends’ hair using the new words.
4. Chant.
Tall,tall,who is tall Joe is tall. Short,short,who is short Amy is short. Thin,thin,who is thin Susan is thin. Heavy,heavy,who is heavy Jason is heavy. Happy,happy,who is happy He is happy. She is happy. You are happy. We’re all happy.

5. Look at the picture in 1a. Ask the students to match the words with the people in the picture.

6. Look at the people in the picture in 1a and describe them with the words and phrases after the example.

Step 3 Listening
1. T:What does Amy’s friend look like Do you want to know Listen carefully,fill in the blanks and find Amy’s friend. We will listen twice. The first time,just listen. The second time,listen and fill in the blanks. And then describe Amy’s friend.
Answers:Well,he’s really tall. And he has curly hair.
2. Describe your friend or your family members.
Step 4 Pair work
1. T:One of the people in 1a is your friend. Describe your friend. Your partner will find him/her.
2. Ask the students to practice in pairs like the conversation in 1c.
3. Explanations
(1)“What do/does...look like ”常用来询问外貌,意为“……长什么样?”,其中look是连系动词,like是介词,look like意为“看上去像”。

注意:“What be...like ”常用来询问人的品质、个性等,还可用来询问人的外貌、事物的性质、形状及天气 情况。

(2)描述人物身高的句型:
主语+be+tall/short/of medium height.
My father is of medium height.
我爸爸中等身高。
(3)描述人物发型的句型:
表示“某人留着或长着……头发”。
My mother has long hair.
我的妈妈留着长头发。
(4)“Is he short or tall ”为选择疑问句,其基本结构为“一般疑问句(一种选择情况)+ or +另外一种选择 情况?”。

注意:①选择疑问句的基本结构还可以为“特殊疑问句+一种选择情况+or+另外一种选择情况?”。

②选择疑问句的答语中不能出现“Yes”或“No”,而是从提供的选项中选择某种情况作答或以符合事实的陈述句作答。

—Does she have long black hair or short brown hair
她留着长的黑色头发还是短的棕色头发?
—She has long brown hair. 她留着长的棕色头发。
Step 5 A Guessing Game
1. Ask each student to describe one of their friends in the classroom and others guess who he/she is.
2. Work in pairs and guess.

3. Group work
T:You are all good at guessing. Are you good at designing
Can you design the new looks of these people Choose one of them to discuss.

Ⅰ. 1. height 句意为“水坝的高度大约是50米”,故填名词height,in height此处相当于high。
2. heavy 由后一句“你能帮我吗?”可知,这个大包太重了。
3. straight 句意为“Jerry经常坐得直,因此他的背很直”。
4. medium 由前句可知此处应为“中等身高”,用(be) of medium height表达。
5. curly 句意为“这个小女孩看起来像外国人,她留着短卷发”。
Ⅱ. 1. What does,look like;is,has “What do/does...look like ”用来询问人物的外貌,Mary是第三人称单数,故助动词用does;“她高个子,留着长发”,动词分别用is,has。
2. of medium height,has short hair (be)of medium height意为“中等身高”;have short hair意为“留着短发”,因主语是第三人称单数,所以第二组空格用has short hair。
3. medium height,has long curly medium height表示 “中等身高”;“某人长着或留着……发”用“Sb. have/ has...hair.”表示。
4. tall,thin “又高又瘦”用tall and thin表示。
Ⅲ. 1. or;height 选择疑问句中选择项用or连接;由“他既不高也不矮”可知,他中等身高,(be)of medium height意为“中等身高”。
2. is,has 句意为“他个头很高,留着短的卷发”。前一分句缺少be动词,he为第三人称单数,故填is;表示“留着……头发”用have/has,由he可知应用has。
3. does,look like;wears 根据答语可知上句询问外貌特征,应用句型“What do/does...look like ”,主语your friend为第三人称单数,所以助动词应用does;wear意为“穿,戴”,he为第三人称单数,故填wears。
4. Is 句意为“你的头发是卷的还是直的?”。your hair为第三人称单数,故be动词应用is。
5. What do;I’m 根据答语可知问句询问外貌特征,应用“What do/does...look like ”,主语you为第二人称,故助动词用do。由问句中的you可知答句应回答“我”的外貌,故填I’m。
6. What’s 答语涉及外貌、性格、品质,故问句应用“What be...like ”句型。your mother为第三人称单数,故be动词应用is。
Ⅳ. 1. B 句意:我的叔叔个子高并且他留着短的直发。
2. B 句意:汤姆看起来像他的父亲,他父亲看上去很年轻。“看起来像”用look like;“看上去”用look。
3. D 选择疑问句不能用yes或no来回答,排除A、B两项;根据答语后句句意“她中等身材”可知选D项“她不瘦也不胖”。
4. C “What do/does...look like ”是询问外貌特征的句型,C项“她又高又瘦”符合题意。
Ⅴ. 1. look like 由画线部分可知应该用询问外貌特征的句型提问,即“What do/does...look like ”。
2. Is,or short 选择疑问句的基本结构为“一般疑问 句+ or +选择项?”或“特殊疑问句+选择项+ or +另外一个选择项?”。
3. of medium height 由原句句意“凯特不太高也不太矮”可知“凯特中等个头”。
4. doesn’t wear wear为实义动词,因主语为she,且该句为一般现在时,故变否定句时用doesn’t,后用动词原形。
