Let the students discuss how they make friends. Here are some examples. The teacher can show the pictures to the students. The students look at them and say. Step 2 Reading and vocabulary Preparation Work in pairs and answer the questions. 1 When was the last time you felt sad 2 Who did you tell that you were sad 3 What did you do to feel better How can you make other people feel happy 2 Fast reading Read the passage and answer the questions. 1. I was very lonely, and afraid to make friends with anyone.我很孤独,不敢与任何人交朋友。 be afraid to do sth.意为“不敢做某事”。be afraid of doing sth.意为“害怕做某事”。 My sister is afraid to go out alone at night. 我妹妹不敢在晚上独自出去。 The boy is shy and he is afraid of speaking before class. 这个男孩害羞,他害怕在同学们面前发言。 3. Every time I heard the other students talking and laughing, I felt even more lonely. 每次我听到其他同学又说又笑,我感到更加孤独了。 (1)every time表示“每次”,在此引导一个时间状语从句,相当于each time。 Every time/Each time I see him, he always seems busy. 每次我见到他,他好像总是很忙。 (2)even副词,意为“甚至”,用于修饰比较级。much,a lot,a little,a bit 等词(组)也常用来修饰比较级,表示不同的程度。 The first question is difficult. The second one is even more difficult. 第一个问题很难,第二个问题更难。 4. One day, my classmates were talking with their friends, but I sat in silence.一天,我的同学正跟他们的朋友聊天,而我默默地坐着。 (1)in silence意为“安静地,沉默地” 。 He looked at the pictures on the wall in silence. 他默默地看着墙上的照片。 (2) silence不可数名词,意为“寂静;无声”;silent形容词,意为“寂静的;无声的”,keep silent意为“保持安静”。 I like the silence of the country night. 我喜欢乡村夜晚的静寂。 Tom kept silent all the time.汤姆一直保持着沉默。 5. Day by day, I learnt to trust people, and they included me in their circle of friends.一天天地,我学着信任他人,他们也在他们的朋友圈里加上了我。 (1)day by day意为“一天天地;渐渐地” ,在句子中作状语。 When autumn comes, it gets cool day by day. 秋天到来后,天气一天天凉爽起来。 (2) include 动词,意为“包括;把……列为一部分”,后接名词或动词-ing形式作宾语,不用于进行时态。 The tour included a visit to the Great Wall. 这次旅行包含了去参观长城。 Her daily work includes making dinner for the family. 她的日常工作包括为这个家庭做晚饭。 6. My suggestion is: smile at the world and it will smile back.我的建议是:微笑面对世界,它会向你报以微笑。 suggestion可数名词,表示“建议;提议”,它的动词形式为suggest,意为“建议;提议”。 What are your suggestions on how to learn English 你对英语学习的建议是什么?
