In his neighbour’s kitchen

3. He went in and found his neighbour, the 79-year-old Mrs Sun,
in the kitchen. 他进去发现他的邻居,79岁的孙太太,在厨房里。
79-year-old为复合形容词,意为“79岁的”。
复合形容词有以下特点:
一是构成复合形容词的各词间用连字符连接;
二是其中的名词要用单数形式;
三是复合形容词只能在句中作前置定语。
Tom is an eight-year-old boy. 汤姆是个八岁的男孩。
I have a two-meter-long ruler. 我有一把两米长的尺子。

(1) fireman消防队员。复数形式为firemen。类似的还有:
postman-postmen 邮递员; policeman- policemen警察;

(2) put out 熄灭,扑灭。为“动词+副词”短语,人称代词作宾语时,
应放在put和out之间。
The man tried his best to put out the fire. 那个人尽全力把火扑灭了。
Don’t smoke here. Put it out. 不许在这抽烟,把它熄灭。(代词夹中间)
7. He was in hospital for two weeks .
他在医院住了两个星期。
in hospital 住院。表示生病住院。
I hear that he is ill in hospital.
我听说他生病住院了。
【拓展】 in the hospital 在医院里。不一定生病。
