I used to hear about the story of Ella's father. He sacrificed his life to save the villagers from flood when Ella was a baby. Therefore, the statue of her father was built at the edge of our village and also a large warning bell was fixed there.
One day, all the kids gathered at the statue to play hide-and-seek. Sam, the biggest and loudest boy, loved making jokes at others' expense, and Ella was his favorite target. He watched Ella with a sly (狡黠的) smile and said to her, “I bet your father wished he’d had a boy to follow in his footsteps. ” Holding her fists tightly, Ella was about to hit Sam when I patted her on the shoulder. “Enough, ” I shouted. “Let's begin our game while it's still light out. I'll count first. ” Then I leaned my head against the statue and started to count.
In no time, the rest of the kids ran away to seek hiding places. Sam looked annoyed because his fun had been interrupted, and Ella's cheeks also burned with anger. But they both didn't want to be left out. Sam dashed away from the village to hide in the woods, while Ella headed back into the village and hid behind the grassy wall.
Soon most kids were caught, waiting for a new round to begin. Sam had yet to be found, so we thought he must be staying perfectly still and quiet, enjoying the scream and laughter of the game.
Suddenly, the large warning bell for thick fog began to ring. We all sensed the danger and immediately ran to our regular gathering place to seek shelter.
I threw the door open wide, waiting for other kids to arrive. Ella was one of the last to be back. I started the head count, only to find Sam was missing. All kids insisted on shutting the door, but Ella shook her head firmly. She rushed away toward the edge of the village with a torch to look for Sam. She swung it back and forth, until she reached the statue of her father.

Catherine was the coolest kid in her class. Whenever she went, she was in the sportlight, with
a bunch of kids following her and doing everything she did.
Her desk mate, Landy, however, was not in the cool kids' group. Being the tallest kid in her class, she was laughed at by her classmates, who were always chanting "Landy, Landy, long as spagheti (意大利面)" . Every time Landy heard those silly chants, she could feel her face burst into flames. God knew how she wished the ground to crack and swallow her!
Catherine didn't really like it when the kids chanted “Landy, Landy, long as spaghetti". But she never told them to stop either, and nor did she ever talk to her. She liked being popular.
One weekend, Catherine went over to her grandfather for Thanksgiving. Her grandfather lives on a farm at the opposite end of town, where he keeps chickens. While helping to feed the chickens, Catherine noticed a peculiar one. Curling( 蜷 缩 )in the comer, it looked smaller than the others and was almost half-bare!
“What's the matter with it ”She asked her grandfather, with a puzzled frown on her face. Her grandfather told her how chickens could act. “They have a pecking ( 啄 )order, ”he explained, wrinkles of concern spreading around his forehead. “If one chicken is different, the others will push it away and keep pecking it. Sometimes they peck it so much that it dies. ”
“Oh, what a poor little thing!”Catherine let out a sigh as she scooped ( 捧 起 )the frightened chicken up in her arms, whose heart was beating fast in the bony little body.

Jack was a bright and curious child, always eager to learn new things and explore the mysterious world about science. However, he often found himself in disagreement with his mother. His mother was always busy with her work and she didn't have enough time to learn about his interests and passions.
One day, Jack came home from school feeling particularly excited. He just found a sci-fi book about an adventure on the moon. Upon arriving at home, he couldn't tear himself away from the book. He read and read until it was dark. Having finished reading it, he couldn't wait to share it with his mother, only to be told that he should focus on more practical subjects like math and history, which would help him get into a good college and have a successful career.
Jack couldn't understand why his mother didn't see the value in what he was doing. He felt that she was holding him back and not allowing him to pursue his true interests. “Why can't you see how important this is to me ”Jack asked his mother angrily. "I'm never going to be happy if I have to spend my life doing things that I show no interest in just because they are practical or make you proud. ”
The once peaceful home was filled with tension and anger. His mother's voice grew louder as she shouted, "You can't just do whatever you want! You should be responsible for your future!”Jack, fueled by his own annoyance, shot back, “I am tired of you always telling me what to do!I am not a child anymore! You only care about your own feeling! You never thought about my feeling!”They were so caught up in their own anger and hurt that they failed to see how their words and actions were affecting each other.

Monday morning started out like any other school day. Ms. Castle assigned topics for the school science fair. Anxious, Anna silently begged not to receive the bugs topic. Ms. Castle stopped in front of Anna's desk and placed the piece of paper on it.
Science topic:Beetle(甲虫)
Partner:Tali Perkins
A small sigh escaped Anna's mouth. Beetles and Tali, known for her know-it-all attitude, are two things Anna feared. Throughout the day, she couldn't shake off her worry about them.
On Tuesday morning, Tali ran up to Anna before class started and said, “I told Ms. Castle we'd catch a beetle and put it on display. She approved our proposal so we're good to go. ” Hearing this, Anna shouted, “Why didn't you ask for my opinion Weren't we supposed to make decisions together ”
“I didn't think you'd mind, "Tali said. “I know you're not good at science. ”Before Anna could say anything, Tali turned and walked away. Anna took a while to cool down and wrote an email to Tali.
Tali,
I'm a little upset that you chose our project without my input. I think it was unfair. I know a lot aboul science. I just don't like beetles. I've had beetles crawl(爬)over my feet, and it was NOT FUN!Your partner, Anna
The next morning, Tali brought a collection of beetle photographs, which she thought could help Anna get used to beetles. And then Tali invited Anna to collect beetles in the woods that night. Unwillingly, Anna joined Tali and was amazed to find the beetle interesting. She even built a home for their beetles, realizing Tali had helped her overcome her fear.
Finishing the beetle display, Anna invited Tali to prepare the class talk together. Tali hesitated, but Anna insisted they were a team. Later, Anna received an email from Tali.
Anna,
You're afraid of beetles, but I am afraid to speak in front of a group. That's a million times worse. Help!

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was still a young girl, I used to love going adventuring in the wild. One of my clearest memories from early childhood was when my dad took me along for a trip on a small path that went through the woods near our home. If he was not busy working, my dad would always take me down to the bush every weekend and together we would collect many sticks and stones to add to our collections.
I wasn’t like any ordinary girl as I loved the outdoors even as a young toddler (学步的儿童). I was never fond of colorful dolls and noisy tea parties. Soon I became old enough to venture out on my own. When I ventured forth through the Australian bush land I felt as if I were in heaven. It gave me great joy that I had never felt before. I thought there was nothing more beautiful than feeling the cool air gently brushing across my back. The leaves crunched (嘎吱作响) beneath my feet at every step. I felt as if I were home.
As the sun dipped slowly below the horizon, there was nothing more to do than to head back home. On my way I suddenly heard a screeching sound somewhere in the distance. It was the most horrible sound I had ever heard in my life. Sure enough, I just had to investigate, feeling curious to know what it was that had made this strange sound. In the dead of night, I headed towards where the strange sound came from. While seeking for it, I came across a river. Looking up and down the river; I couldn’t find a way to cross it. In much shame I decided to give up in the end. It was about one o’ clock in the morning and I thought my dad must have got worried.

【答案】One possible version:
The heavy fog blocked her path but she made her way to the woods. As she pressed on deep into the woods, fear seized her. Determined, she continued to call out Sam’s name. “Over… here,” a faint came reply from Sam, “You… just came for me ” Ella nodded. Sam blushed, feeling guilty. He told her that he had a terrible fall while searching for his way back, and he then lost his way, helpless and desperate. Ella helped him to his feet, putting one of his arms around her shoulders, and together they struggled back to the village with the torch.
The next day, we gathered at the statue again, Sam standing beside Ella. After a proud pat on her shoulder, Sam recounted the entire rescue process to all the other kids. He shouted, “She is a hero’s daughter. Like father, like daughter.” Sincerity filled his eyes as he offered his heartfelt gratitude to Ella. I smiled at Ella, surprised by the larger boy’s change in attitude. Ella smiled back, her face beaming like a diamond. Ella standing up straight, her small figure seemed as tall as her father’s.

Can you forgive me "She figured Landy might just walk away. But she lifted her misty eyes and nodded yes. Catherine wiped away her tears, giving her a warm hug. 【答案】范文
Anna decided to help Tali overcome her fear. Anna went to the library and borrowed several books on how to overcome the fear of giving a speech. She recorded the important information when she read the books. The next day, she shared what she’d learned with Tali. “Lots of people are afraid of speaking in public, but there are things you can do to get over it,” Anna said. “Practicing with a partner is one way to help. I’m your partner, so let’s practice.” Eventually, Tali was persuaded to be in charge of the talking part.
When the presentation day finally came, Tali still seemed nervous. When it was Tali’s turn to speak, she took a deep breath and began to tell the class all the facts she’d learned about the beetle. When she finished, the applause filled the room. Anna and Tali exchanged proud smiles. They conquered fears and completed their project successfully. The beetle project, though centered on a seemingly ordinary insect, unfolded into an extraordinary journey of overcoming fear, mutual help, and the blossoming of an enduring friendship between Anna and Tali.

As I moved away from the river, I did not remember which direction I came from. My brain told me left but my instinct told me right. In my past experiences I had always gone with my instinct. So of course I went with my instinct. It was still dark and I couldn’t see the path clearly. It was a bit cold, and from time to time, I could hear dew drops fall off the tall trees onto the ground. As I walked off into the distance I could see the sun breaking out in my distant view.
After what seemed like hours, I felt a sigh of relief rush through my body. I saw the country field filled with cows and sheep. In the foggy distance I saw my dad lying down without moving a muscle. I wished the night had been just a dream as my dad was worried because of my long absence. I moved closer down the steep hill. I felt a smile creep across my face. I shadowed the sun from my dad’s face and he woke up with a jump. “You are alive!” my dad cried excitedly. “You are alive!” A joy came over his face. Since then he has always gone with me on my adventures.
