Things We should Know About Drowning
Drowning means a person dies from being under water for too long.
There are some causes of drowning. Not being able to swim is one of the
causes. Many adults and children report that they can’t swim or that they are
weak swimmers. Taking part in swimming lessons can reduce the risk of
drowning among children and young adults. The second cause might be the
lack(缺乏) of close supervision. Drowning can happen quickly and quietly
anywhere there is water. Be sure to keep a close eye on children anytime
when they are in the water.
What should you do if you are drowning? Here are some tips. First,
keep your head up and try to breathe normally. Second, attract attention
by shouting or splashing(拍打) water. Third, if you are tired, lie on
your back, with your eyes looking at the sky. Fourth, try to stay as relaxed
as possible.
What should you do if you see someone drown? The first thing is to
call for emergency(紧急) help. Do not try to save the drowning person by
going into water if you are not trained. Next, you can throw something into
the water for the drowning person. You may throw a life buoy or extend a
long pole for the drowning person to hold. Third, when the drowning
person is on dry land, perform CPR(心肺复苏) for him or her.

Many people procrastinate(拖延) because they want to feel good
now. The way to do that is to avoid the task. You can procrastinate on nearly
anything, even enjoyable tasks such as planning a vacation. Research has
shown that the top tasks young people procrastinate are studying and going to
bed. One big cause for procrastination is that people are afraid of failure, of
not meeting others’ expectations.
Some people believe that procrastination will make them thrive. But
researchers disagree. “I did a study several years ago, asking
procrastinators to finish a task in a certain period of time,” says Cruise.
“They did worse than non-procrastinators. They made more mistakes and
they took longer. But they thought they did better.” Procrastination is
usually not going to be good for you. For example, bedtime procrastination
can lead to sleeplessness, which in turn can cause many other health
problems.
For those who want to stop procrastinating, the best advice might be to
take action first. If you’ve been procrastinating on doing exercise, just put
on your sports shoes. A little bit of progress will get you moving.
Next, find something to help you remember to take action. If you want
to go to bed at 10:30 p.m., you might set a timed dimmer switch(渐暗开
关) at 10 p.m. When the lights are dimmer, you’ll start going to bed. It
works for most people.
Finally, reward(奖励) yourself every time you make progress. For
example, after you’ve run 3 km, enjoy your favorite ice-cream.
( B )1.Why do many people procrastinate?
A.Because they want to avoid doing hard work.
B.Because they want to feel good right now.
C.Because they need to finish the top tasks first.
D.Because they plan to do the enjoyable tasks last.

Exam time is the most stressful period of the year. You have worked all
school term on your classes and now it’s the time to prove what you have
learned. So it is easy to get stressed about your exams. But with the right
amount of hard work and focus, you can pass your tests easily.
When I was in school, I used to get very stressed over my exams. So
did my friends. Some people stopped eating and others ate too much! Some
gave up and others burned themselves out! The most important thing to
remember when studying is not to feel afraid! Stay calm, eat healthily and
get a rest. Pushing yourself too hard is just as dangerous as not studying
enough. A tired, overworked brain is just as useless as a lazy, empty
one!
So, what should you do? Firstly, arrange a time each day for study
and a time for relaxation. You may have less time to relax than usual, but
you still need to let your brain rest for a few moments. Secondly, get
enough sleep for at least eight hours a day. If you are tired, information will
not stick in your memory. Finally, eat healthy foods that fuel(给……加
油) your body and mind.

How to Deal with the Exam Stress
Everyone may have exam stress.
It’s important to know how to deal
with it. I still remember that I felt stressed before the final exam last
year. I couldn’t sleep well at night. I was not friendly to my parents.
Luckily, my dad gave me some advice and helped me out.
First, I relaxed myself by listening to music. Second, I did sports
every afternoon. It was amazing that doing sports helped me feel relaxed.
Third, I went to bed before 10 o’clock. I found that I was more
energetic the next day. Finally, I did a good job in the exam.
I hope that we can deal with our stress properly. If we can do
that, I’m sure we can do well in exams.
