二、阅读理解
Have you ever heard the saying “Don’t judge (判断) a book by its cover” Well, in Chinese, we have an expression called “yǐ mào qǔ rén”.
Imagine you meet someone new at school. They might look different from you in hair, clothes, or looks. It’s important not to make any judgments about them just because of how they look.
Sometimes, people make a mistake by judging others by their looks. They might think someone is mean (刻薄) or unfriendly just because they have a serious face or wear unusual clothes. But what meets the eye isn’t always the truth!
In fact, people are like books with many, many pages. We need to read more and more pages to understand them. That means getting to know them, talking to them, and learning about their interests and personalities (个性).
Think about your best friends. When you met them for the first time, you might not have known they would become your best friends. But as you spent time together and got to know each other, you realized how amazing they are.
By not judging people by their looks, we’ll open our hearts to new people in our lives. We start to understand and treasure the differences between us, like different cultures, backgrounds (出身背景) and ways of thinking.
So, let’s keep an open mind and be nice to everyone we meet. Let’s treat (对待) others with kindness and fairness, no matter how they look. When we do that, we make a world where everyone feels important and accepted for who they are. After all, the most amazing things are hidden-within every one of us!

During the springtime, from February to April, temperatures slowly go up. The days are longer and are perfect for hiking and adventure (探险) tours.
May, however, pushes the temperature a bit higher. The real summer is quickly cut short by the beginning of the monsoon season. Scientists have reported that Antarctica’s (南极洲) sea ice is at a record low level. That’s worrying because the sea ice is an important part of the Earth’s cooling system.
Antarctica is a great, icy land mass (冰陆块), and around it is the Southern Ocean. The ice in Antarctica doesn’t just cover the land. There’s also a large area of sea ice on the ocean. Usually, the sea ice covers the greatest area around September 23rd, as winter ends at the South Pole.
Scientists have been measuring (测量) the area of the sea ice in Antarctica since 1979. This year, the US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) reports that Antarctica’s sea ice reached its greatest area on September 10th—almost two weeks earlier than normal. And the sea ice was at a new record low—not just by a little bit, but by a lot. The last time Antarctica’s low sea ice set a record at the end of winter was in 1986. And this year, there’s about 1.03 million square kilometers less sea ice than in 1986.
Scientists are still trying to understand what is driving the change in Antarctica. One possible cause is the rising temperatures of the world’s oceans. Scientists are also working hard to better understand Antarctica. They don’t know whether this is just a short-term problem, or part of a changing climate pattern.
