Ⅰ Analysis of teaching material
The passage is an informative essay, which aims to provide readers with knowledge related to western paintings. Neither does the passage express the personal perspectives, nor it aims to persuade others. The passage is interesting fro students to read, and arouses readers’ eagerness to read it further.
Ⅱ Analysis of students
Students might be interested in the various kinds of paintings mentioned in this unit. However, most of them lack background knowledge of art. It could be quite difficult and boring for them to comprehend such a long reading passage. Therefore, attractive classroom activities are needed.

master the key words, phrases and sentences of the passage;
understand the passage in detail, and talk about“art” freely.
