四、阅读理解。
In 1903, a woman named Emily Davison threw herself under the king’s horse during a horse race and died. In her pocket, she had a note that read, “Votes for women.” Emily was a “suffragette”. Suffragettes were women who started working together in 1903 to ask for equal rights(平等权利)for women.
More than 100 years ago, women in the UK could not vote, go to university or work the same jobs as men. If they wanted a divorce, men would get their children. Sometimes, poor men sold their wives(妻子)in markets.
The suffragettes wanted to change this. More than 1,000 of them were arrested(逮捕), but they did not stop. In 1928, women in the UK got the right to vote and then more women started to study and get new jobs. In 1952, women teachers got the right to earn the same money as men for doing the same work.
Many things have improved since the suffragettes’ time, but some people think that men and women are still not equal. For example, even now in the UK, men get 20 percent more than women for the same work.

How do you treat your books Do you use a bookmark to avoid folding a page or put your books in order on a bookcase Or perhaps you pay 1 attention to their condition — you’re happy to make marks or take notes down the margins (空白) of a page. You take your books with you wherever you go, even if they may get damaged (破坏的). What’s 2 opinion—do you think they should always be kept in good condition
Yes. Books need our respect.
It is important to care for your books. This is especially true if the book cost a lot of money, or was given to you 3 a present. If you don’t look after your personal things well, people might not buy them for you in the future. They also won’t last long if they are damaged. Over time, treating books badly could become a bad 4 . If you damage books that you’ve borrowed from the library or a friend, you might end up with some 5 or an unhappy friend.
No. It doesn’t matter as long as you 6 .
One of the great things about a book is that readers can make it their own with notes. If it’s a gift, you can write a nice message. These little messages can make a book feel personal and special to you. It doesn’t matter 7 a book is in perfect condition or not. Writers just want people to read their stories, and they don’t 8 how or where people do it.
