B2. The Kite Runner
My favourite book is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The author was born
in Afghanistan and later moved to America. The book was first published in 2003,
followed by a film adaptation in 2007.
The book tells a story about Amir. At the beginning of the story, he is a
little boy in Afghanistan and enjoys flying kites with Hassan, his playmate
and servant. One day,Hassan is hurt in a fight, but Amir does not try to help
him. Later he feels so guilty that he cannot bear living with Hassan every
day. He then falsely accuses Hassan of stealing his birthday watch so that Hassan
can be sent away.
In my opinion, this book is amazing in its themes of friendship, guilt and
destiny. It is beautifully written, with powerful storytelling. Despite all
his wrongdoings, young Amir is very interesting and likeable. I think this is
a difficult thing for a writer to do.I finished reading the book in three days
as it is easy to read and I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next.
