内容与学情分析 内容分析 本单元的中心话题主要围绕自然地理知识和动物而开展。 通过这些知识的学习，学生可以学到大数字的读法和表示度量的结构。并进一步拓展学习比较级和最高级的使用。在听说读写这些活动之中学生的综合能力进一步提升。并通过阅读材料和写作训练学生还可以了解珠穆朗玛峰的险峻和人类克服困难，挑战极限的勇气与实践精神，树立保护动物的意识。
教学重点 1．重点单词，短语和句型。 2．准确对鲸鱼习性、特征等进行说明性描述。
教学难点 能在话题下成功完成说明文的写作。
学情分析 在八年级上册和本单元Section A的学习中已经了解了比较级和最高级的有关知识，在环境保护和野生动物保护方面也有比较高的意识，在此基础上继续提高环保的意识，并赋予行动。
教学目标 1. 通过半开放式的综合写作训练板块引入，以whales为话题引领，练习和巩固本单元的目标语言，熟练使用以下词汇、短语和句型： whale, oil, protection, huge Whales are... They live in... They eat... They can One interesting fact is... Another interesting fact is… Some kinds of whales are in danger because… We should protect whales from... I think people should/shouldn't... 2. 通过写作活动，能正确运用所给信息并根据3b呈现的说明文框架进行写作练习，对鲸鱼的生活习性及生存现状等进行描述并表述自己的观点。 3. 学习如何保护环境，保护动物，培养环保意识。
学生课前需要做的准备工作 预习单词，词组合句型。思考如何保护环境和野生动物，收集一些关于鲸的生活环境和现状。
教学策略 写作课的成果教学法： Familiarization—(熟悉范文) 选取一篇范文进行讲解，分析目标语言在文中的运用和语篇结构，介绍文中连词等用法。 Controlled Writing—(控制性练习) 就范文中所体现的相关句式要求学生进行替换练习，并在老师的指导下渐渐过渡到段落写作。 Guided Writing—(指导性练习) 学生模仿范文，使用经过训练的句式尝试写出相似类型的文章。 Free Writing—(自由写作) 学生可结合话题进行自由发挥，使得写作技能成为自身技能的一部分，并用于现实写作中。 分享学生作品并总结，设置课后任务提升学生语言运用能力
