Sichuan opera originated at the end of the Ming Dynasty (1368 AD-1644 AD) and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty (1636 AD-1912 AD). With immigrants flooding into Sichuan, different dramas were brought in to blend with the local dialect, customs, folk music and dances.Gradually, the vocal art, presenting local characteristics in Sichuan,came into being. Face changing is a highlight of Sichuan opera.
