Photography has been my passion ever since I was old enough to pick up a camera, but today I want to share with you the 15 most treasured photos of mine, and I didn’t take any of them. There were no art directors, no stylists, no chance for re shoots, not even any regard for lighting. In fact, most of them were taken by random tourists.
My story begins when I was in New York City for a speaking engagement, and my wife took this picture of me holding my daughter on her first birthday. We’re on the corner of 57th and 5th. We happened to be back in New York exactly a year later, so we decided to take the same picture.
Approaching my daughter’s third birthday, my wife said, “Hey, why don’t you take Sabina back to New York and make it a father-daughter trip ” This is when we started asking passing tourists to take the picture.
You know, it’s remarkable how universal the gesture is of handing your camera to a total stranger. No one’s ever refused, and luckily no one’s ever runoff with our camera.
Back then, we had no idea how much this trip would change our lives. It’s really become sacred to us. This one was taken just weeks after 911, and I found myself trying to explain what had happened that day in ways a five-year-old could understand.
So, these photos are far more than a specific trip. They’re also ways for us to freeze time and reflect on our times and how we change from year to year, and not just physically, but in every way. Because while we take the same photo, our views change, and she reaches new milestones, and I get to see life through her eyes, and how she interacts with and sees everything. This very focused time we get to spend together is something we treasure and expect the entire year. One of the most important things we all make is memories.
So, I want to share the idea of taking an active role in consciously creating memories. I want to encourage everyone today to get in the shot, and don’t hesitate to go up to someone and ask, “Will you take our picture Thank you.”
24.What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A.To encourage us to take photos.
B.To inform us of the author’s life.
C.To introduce the topic of the passage.
D.To tell us the skills of photography.
25.Why did the author’s wife suggest a father-daughter trip
A.Their daughter’s coming third birthday.
B.Their attending a speaking engagement.
C.Their asking passers-by to take photos.
D.Their appreciation for strangers’ help.
26.What does the underlined part probably mean
A.These photos were taken by strangers.
B.These photos carry valuable memories.
C.These photos show just a usual trip.
D.These photos were expensively taken.
27.What is the author’s attitude in the passage
A.Disapproving. B.Positive. C.Uncertain. D.Fearful.

Based on new data from the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission and other space science data sets, astronomers have created an animation to model dust in the Milky Way. The work was presented this week at a national astronomy meeting.
The animation shows the cumulative build-up of dust looking from Earth’s local neighbourhood to about 13,000 light years towards the galactic centre—around 10% of the overall distance across the Milky Way. Close by, dust swirls all around but, further out, the concentration of dust along the galactic plane (银道面) becomes clear. Two ‘windows’, one above and one below the galactic plane, are also revealed.
“Dust clouds are related to the birth and death of stars, so their distribution tells a story of how structures formed in the galaxy and how the galaxy evolves,” said Nick Cox, coordinator of the EXPLORE project which is developing the tools. “The maps are also important, for cosmologists (宇宙学家) in revealing regions where there is no dust, allowing us to have a clear, unobstructed view out of the Milky Way. This helps in studying the Universe beyond, such as to make Deep Field observations with Hubble or the new James Webb Space Telescope.”
“State-of-the-art machine learning and visual analytics have the power to greatly enhance scientific return and discovery for space science missions, but their use is still relatively novel in the field of astronomy,” said Albert Zijlstra, of the University of Manchester and the EXPLORE project. “With a constant stream of new data, we have an increasing wealth of information to mine—way beyond the scope of what humans could process in a lifetime. We need tools like the ones we are developing for EXPLORE to support scientific discovery, such as by helping us to characterize properties within the data, or to pick out the most interesting or unusual features and structures.”
28.What can we learn about the animation from the first two paragraphs
A.It is created to replace the dust in the Milky Way.
B.It shows dust in a long span of space.
C.It employs space data from an individual data base.
D.The animation hasn’t been presented.
29.What can we know from Nick Cox’s words
A.The distribution of dust clouds helps to dig the past of the galaxy.
B.Only Hubble and the new James Web Telescope can help explore the galaxy.
C.Cosmologists use maps to find where there is full of precious star dust clouds.
D.Dust clouds are closely related to the formation and death of various kinds of galaxies.
30.What does Albert think about the EXPLORE project
A.Fruitless. B.Controversial. C.Unrealistic. D.Challenging.
31.What can be a suitable title for this text
A.Open Invitation of the Wide Galaxy B.Thrilling Project for the European Team
C.Deep Dive into the Dusty Milky Way D.Immersing Trip to the Grand Solar System
D
The sound of people chewing or baby screaming can drive some people into anger, and scientists have actually discovered the neurological (神经系统的) wiring responsible for this strange condition. This kind of phenomenon is called misophonia (恐音症). While it’s been recognized as a condition since 2000, research into its cause has been limited. There are no official criteria and those who experience it often find it difficult to be taken seriously.
In 2017, a team led by researchers from Newcastle University found evidence of changes to the brain’s frontal lobe (额叶) that could account for the emotional response triggered by sounds in those with misophonia.
A test group of 20 volunteers listened to neutral, repetitive sounds, such as a boiling kettle; annoying sounds such as a baby’s cry, and “triggering” sounds, including breathing noises or loud chewing. Their neurological and physiological responses were compared with those from a control group of 22 volunteers without misophonia.
Neither group reacted much to the neutral or annoying sounds. When it came to the “triggering” sounds, however, those in the test group experienced significantly increased heart rates and skin conductivity. Brain scans also revealed a marked difference in the volunteers’ neurology. In those with misophonia, the triggering noises are correlated with increased activity in various regions of the brain, including the frontal lobe and the anterior insular cortex (前岛叶皮质AIC), which is responsible for a bunch of mediation tasks, including managing emotional experience. While the triggering sounds also sparked a reaction in the AIC of those without misophonia, the fact that there was no marked increase in the activity of areas such as AIC indicates a higher level of control.
Team leader Sukhbinder Kumar said, “For many people with misophonia, the finding will come as welcome news, as for the first time, we have demonstrated a difference in brain structure and function in sufferers.” Sadly, the discovery doesn’t come with an easy fix. It might help the rest of us sympathize, however, and consider chewing with our mouths closed.
32.What can we learn about misophonia
A.It’s a condition where people cannot tolerate certain sounds.
B.It’s a psychological condition caused by loud chewing noises.
C.It’s a hearing disability that makes people sensitive to sound.
D.It’s a neurological disorder that affects the frontal lobe.
33.What does the underlined word “triggered” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Controlled. B.Relieved. C.Caused. D.Predicted.
34.What did the study conducted by Newcastle University find
A.Annoying sounds had a greater effect on people with misophonia.
B.Misophonia is caused by a lack of control over one’s emotions.
C.People with misophonia has a lower level of control.
D.AIC has little to do with emotional experience.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.When you can’t bear chewing sound, close your mouth
B.How you can fix sound disorder varies with different people.
C.Whether you can control annoying sound depends on your brain
D.If you can’t stand the sound of people chewing, blame your brain
第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Happiness is work in progress but everyone’s process is different. Many people blame their own unhappiness on uncontrollable circumstances, situations or other people. 36 No one can take away your happiness without your permission. Here are a few things that any of us can start doing to feel more happiness in our lives.
Find flow experiences
37 Being involved in a task or activity, where nothing else seems to matter, is a state of being called Flow. From hiking to gardening, reading or even watching a TV show, flow basically describes the inherent sense of satisfaction. When your brain builds expectations about what will make you happy, it begins to adjust itself to seek more happy habits.
Express gratitude
People who are grateful feel better about themselves and they also show higher levels of happiness. 38
Every day presents an opportunity to try something that can make you grateful.
Develop meaningful relationships
Good social relationships are the most consistent predictor of a happy life. Satisfying relationships not only make people happy, but they are also associated with better health and even longer life. Besides, they are connected to some of our strongest emotions.
39 When relationships bring out the worst in us or they are non-existent, we feel anxious, depressed, and lonely.
Live in the moment
It’s extremely hard to be happy when you spend most of your time worrying about the past or living in fear of the future. Life is unfolding, but we are too occupied to notice. The simple things are the most extraordinary things that sometimes make life easy to manage. 40
A.So, enjoy the little joys in life when you find them.
B.Practicing it can also help make changes in our brains.
C.But the truth is that our happiness is our own responsibility.
D.It is a state of active, open, intentional attention on the present.
E.Gratitude can also help us feel more connected to the world around us.
F.When relationships are positive we feel happiness, contentment, and calm.
G.Have you ever lost yourself in something so much that you lost track of time

I am terrified of heights. It’s not really a fear of being in a high place. Rather, it is the view of a long way to fall, of rocks far below me and no firm wall between me and the edge. Despite my fear, two summers ago I somehow found myself climbing to a high place. Most of our high school had come along on a day trip to the Boquerón, a gorgeous, lush spot in the foothills of Peru. Its prime attraction is the main waterfall, about 100 feet high, that thunders into a crystal clear pool feeding the Aguaytia River.
After eating our sack lunches within sight and sound of the fall, many of us wanted to make the climb to an area above it. We knew others had done so on previous trips. We went along the base of the hill until we reached the climb. It stopped me in my tracks.
The climb ascended steeply above us. Along the right edge, the jungle hugged the rocks; passage through its trees did not look feasible. The majority of my view was filled with rocks. Looming high to the sky, the boulders rose in a tiered manner. Peering back down toward the river, I saw a steep slope of rocks all the way to the water. All I could think about was how far it would be to fall.
My tense thoughts were interrupted by the realization that my friends were already beginning to climb! My anxiety increased as I watched them. Looking back, my friend Seth was behind me. Do I turn back My whole being shouted, “Yes!” Will I regret it later I really want to get to the top, but…

D.Fearful.
【答案】24.C 25.A 26.B 27.B
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。主要讲述的是作者分享随手拍照的意义,并鼓励人们拿起相机记录美好的时刻。
24.推理判断题。根据第一段中的“Photography has been my passion ever since I was old enough to pick up a camera, but today I want to share with you the 15 most treasured photos of mine, and I didn’t take any of them.(从我有能力拿起相机的时候起,摄影就一直是我的爱好,但今天我想和你们分享我最珍贵的15张照片,其中没有一张是我拍的)”以及下文分析作都随手拍照的经历和意义可推断,第一段的目的是为了引出本文的话题。故选C项。
25.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Approaching my daughter’s third birthday, my wife said, “Hey, why don’t you take Sabina back to New York and make it a father-daughter trip ”(快到我女儿三岁生日的时候,我妻子说:“嘿,你为什么不带萨宾娜回纽约来一次父女之旅呢 ”)”可知,女儿生日临近,妻子提议回纽约来一次父女旅行,由此可知,妻子提议旅行的原因是女儿的3岁生日快到了。故选A项。
26.词句猜测题。根据划线句子后的“They’re also ways for us to freeze time and reflect on our times and how we change from year to year, and not just physically, but in every way.(它们也是我们固定时间的方式,反映我们的时间和我们每年是如何变化的,不仅仅是身体上的变化,而是在各个方面的变化)”可知,这些照片还记录了过去并给我们提供了反思时代变化的方式,由此可知,这些照片承载着的很多对过去的记忆,由此可知,划线句子的意思是“这些照片承载了宝贵的回忆”。故选B项。

【答案】32.A 33.C 34.C 35.D
【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要解释了什么是恐音症以及对于恐音症发病原因的一些研究。
32.细节理解题。根据第一段“The sound of people chewing or baby screaming can drive some people into anger, and scientists have actually discovered the neurological (神经系统的) wiring responsible for this strange condition. This kind of phenomenon is called misophonia (恐音症).(人们咀嚼或婴儿尖叫的声音会让一些人感到愤怒,科学家们实际上已经发现了导致这种奇怪情况的神经线路。这种现象被称为恐音症)”可知,恐音症是一种人们无法忍受某些声音的情况。故选A。
33.词句猜测题。根据第一段“The sound of people chewing or baby screaming can drive some people into anger (人们咀嚼或婴儿尖叫的声音会让一些人感到愤怒)”以及划线词上文“could account for the emotional response”可知,患有恐音症的人会因为咀嚼或婴儿尖叫的声音而产生情绪变化,即声音会造成他们的情绪反应。故划线词意思是“造成”。故选C。
34.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“While the triggering sounds also sparked a reaction in the AIC of those without misophonia, the fact that there was no marked increase in the activity of areas such as AIC indicates a higher level of control.

38.空前说“People who are grateful feel better about themselves and they also show higher levels of happiness.(懂得感恩的人自我感觉更好,他们也会表现出更高的幸福感。)”,空格处要继续说懂得感恩的好处,E选项“Gratitude can also help us feel more connected to the world around us.(感恩还能让我们与周围的世界更紧密地联系在一起。)”说明了感恩的另一个好处,因此承接上文,符合语境,故选E。

40.空前说“It’s extremely hard to be happy when you spend most of your time worrying about the past or living in fear of the future. Life is unfolding, but we are too occupied to notice. The simple things are the most extraordinary things that sometimes make life easy to manage.(当你把大部分时间都花在担心过去或生活在对未来的恐惧中时,你很难快乐起来。生活正在展开,但我们太忙而没有注意到。简单的事情往往是最不平凡的事情,有时会让生活变得容易管理。)”,因此空格处应该说因此要享受简单的小事情,A选项“So, enjoy the little joys in life when you find them.(所以,当你发现生活中的小快乐时,好好享受吧。)”说明了享受生活中能带来快乐的小事情,承接上文,符合语境,故选A。

【答案】 Show Gratitude to Parents through Labor
In order to arouse our awareness of being grateful to our parents, our school held an activity last weekend.
To show my thanks, I decided to do something for my parents. Getting up earlier than usual last Saturday, I spent much time preparing their breakfast and then I began to help do cleaning in our house, which made me tired and exhausted. When I saw my parents’ satisfied smiles, I felt that my labor was worthwhile.
Through this activity, I’ve learnt that it is not easy for my parents to work and take care of us at the same time. It is their selfless and unconditional love that I should appreciate.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I voiced my uncertainties to my friends. They didn’t laugh at me. Instead, they dismissed my fears and encouraged me to stick it out. Seth even held my shoulders and promised me to give me a hand when necessary. Questioning my own wisdom, I decided at least to attempt the climb. My friends kept right on climbing. But they did not forget me. Seth was always ahead to offer a hand up from time to time.
Finally we came to the worst section yet. To me the slope looked very close to vertical. The slight handholds were few and far between. With fear and trembling, I made my way ahead slowly. My friends waited patiently, not pressuring me to hurry. Instead Seth supported my foot, and those above sent down words of encouragement. My breathing sped up, but my heart pounded even faster, growing loud in my ears. I kept on climbing painstakingly. Finally, I was dirty and sweaty. But none of it mattered. I was on the top!

第四部分 写作(共两节, 满分40分)
第一节(满分15分)
第二节(满分25分)
