unless是连词,意为“除非,如果不”,引导条件状语从句。 如:
Unless you work harder, you will not pass the examination. 如果不努力,你就不能通过考试。
◎拓展:
(1)由unless 引导的条件状语从句既可以是真实条件, 也可以是非真实条件。作为真实条件分句, “unless”可以和“if...not”互换。如:
We won't be able to reach the top of the mountain unless the weather changes. 如果天气不变, 我们就不能到达山顶。
(2)unless常引导条件状语从句。在含有unless引导的条件状语从句的复合句中,主句多用一般将来时,从句常用一般现在时表示将来。如:
