prevent为动词,意为“阻止,预防”,后接名词或代词作宾语, 常用短语prevent... from doing sth.意为“阻止……做某事”。如:
It's too hard for me to prevent him.要阻止他对我来说太难了。
辨析:prevent... from doing sth.、stop... from doing sth.和keep... from doing sth.
三者都意为“阻止……做某事”, 一般情况下可以通用。其中prevent/stop... from doing sth.中的介词from在主动语态中可以省略, 但在被动语态中from不可省略, 而keep... from doing sth.中的from无论是主动语态还是被动语态均不可以省略。如:
We must prevent/stop them (from) playing football on the road.我们必须阻止他们在马路上踢足球。
