Step 3.Studying the rules
-ed as adverbial(过去分词作状语)
过去分词是非谓语动词的一种形式, 表示完成和被动的动作。它在句中可充当状语、定语、表语和补语。
过去分词作状语时, 其逻辑主语是主句的主语, 且与主语之间存在着被动关系。过去分词作状语可表时间、原因、让步、 结果、条件、方式或伴随等。
1. 作原因状语:相当于一个原因状语从句。
① Destroyed by the hurricane, the old house is nowhere to be found.
② Caught in a heavy rain, he was all wet.
③ Bitten by the cobra, the man was in danger.
2. 作时间状语: 相当于一个时间状语从句
① Seen from the top of the building, our school looks beautiful.
② Water boils, heated to 100℃.
③ Asked what had happened, he kept silent.
3. 作让步状语:相当于though / although引导的让步状语从句。
① Tired, he went on working.
② Left alone at home, the little boy didn't feel afraid at all.
4. 作条件状语: 相当于一个条件状语从句
① Punished by the parents, he won't come again.
② Given more time, we would be able to do the work much better.
③ Heated, water changes into steam.
5. 作伴随或方式状语
①She walked out of the house, followed by her little daughter.
② Absorbed in the work, he neglected food and sleep.
小试牛刀(用-ed形式改写句子):
1. When he was asked what had happened, he kept silent.
2. Because he was caught in a heavy rain, he was all wet.
3. If we were given more time, we would be able to do the work much better.
4. Although he was left alone at home, the little boy didn't feel afraid at all.

Step 4.Applying the rules
Activity1.Rewrite the underlined sentences with the -ed
1.Last week, Anne was attracted by a particular article in a magazine, so she bought it.
2.Anne was praised in class, and she felt happy as well as ashamed.

Activity 2: Read and Choose
