There's a quote putting, “life doesn't come with a manual (手册); it comes with a mother.” Thankfully, for Jabez and Christopher, their manual- or mother - found a creative way to keep her little boys’ fingers safe around a sewing machine. And as a result, she turned them into successful business owners.
Queenie Jenkins from Atlanta worked in the fashion industry and in her spare time, made matching scarves and skirts on her sewing machine at home. But once she became a mother with two energetic boys at her feet, her hobby became both difficult and dangerous. So, she turned the problem into a life lesson. Jenkins taught her boys how to use the sewing machine skilfully and safely. It wasn’t long before the boys were no longer green hands. As they grew older, they knew how to change the trousers into shorts for the summer months well.
When Jabez’s elementary school held a Career Day, he made 30 bow ties and 30 hair bows to sell. Within minutes, all of them had sold out. Then Jabez launched Kings and Gents Accessories, a small workshop, in 2018 with his brother. In addition to making and selling their bow ties, the brothers have also written a book and created a YouTube channel to host meetings for other potential “kidpreneurs (儿童企业家).”
Now as a freshman in high school, Jabez said inspiring the next generation of business owners is an important part of their mission. “We just wanted to show younger kids how we got started, and how they can get started,” said Jabez, “We're no different than any other kids."
Jenkins has plenty to be proud of. Not only have her boys created a successful business, but they've gained valuable life skills along the way. “They've learned not to give up, to be more creative, and to be thinkers,” said Jenkins. “They don’t allow their fear to stop them.’’

A. Safety rules. B. Business plans. C. Cloth materials. D. Life skills.

6.Which of the following best describes the brothers’ impact on other potential kidpreneurs
A. One-sided. B. Short-lived. C. Far-reaching. D. Well-rounded.
7.What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Sewing the seeds of success. B. Business on the rocks.
C.Mama’s sewing machine. D. Developing creative thinking.

Mindful eating is maintaining an in-the-moment awareness of the food and drink you put into your body. For many of us, our busy daily lives often make mealtimes rushed things. We find ourselves eating in the car going to work, at the desk in front of a computer screen, or parked on the couch watching TV. We eat mindlessly, taking food down regardless of whether we’re still hungry or not. In fact, we often eat for other reasons instead of hunger — to satisfy emotional needs, to free from stress, or deal with unpleasant emotions such as sadness, anxiety, loneliness, or boredom. Mindful eating is the opposite of this kind of unhealthy “mindless” eating.
Mindful eating isn’t about being perfect, always eating the right things, or never allowing yourself to eat on-the-go again. And it’s not about establishing strict rules for which foods you have to include or avoid in your diet. Rather, it’s about focusing all your senses and being present as you shop for, cook, serve, and eat your food.
While mindfulness isn’t for everyone, many people find it worth trying. By paying close attention to how you feel as you eat, you can learn to enjoy both your food and the experience of eating. It can keep you full with less food, and influence wiser choices about what you eat in the future. It can also help you free yourself from unhealthy habits.
To practice mindfulness, you need to participate in an activity with total awareness. In the case of mindful eating, it’s important to eat with all your attention rather than on multitasking (reading, watching TV, daydreaming, etc). When your attention moves away, gently bring it back to your food and the experience of cooking, serving, and eating.
8. Which belongs to mindful eating
A. Eating as quickly as possible. B. Eating to fill emotional needs.
C. Eating only to satisfy physical hunger. D. Eating while driving.
9. What does the underlined word “on-the-go” mean in Paragraph 2
A. Crazily. B. Irregularly. C. Hurriedly. D. Rudely.
10. What’s the author’s attitude towards mindful eating
A. It’s worthwhile to have a try. B. It’s a universal rule of diet.
C. It’s helpful to keep energetic. D. It’s a trend in weight loss.
11. What might be talked about in the following paragraph
A. The practice of mindful eating. B. The reasons for mindful eating.
C. The spread of mindful eating. D. The benefits of mindful eating.
D
Lots of animals play. But the behavior is best known in mammals (哺乳动物) and birds. Now the scientists at London’s Queen Mary University report that bumblebees (大黄蜂) know the same thing. But before this, there were no reports of insects playing.
Dr. Lars Chittka began to wonder if bumblebees played during an earlier test. In that test, Chittka guided bumblebees to move balls into a goal for food. He noticed that some bees were rolling (滚动) balls even when they weren’t given food. He wondered if they were playing.
To test the idea, the scientists at his lab set up a new test. First, they numbered 45 young bumblebees between one and 23 days old. The numbers let them follow bumblebees’ behavior. Then, they set up a clear pathway from the bumblebees’ home to a feeding area. On either side of the open pathway, the researchers placed small colored wooden balls. On one side of the path, the balls couldn’t move. On the other side, the balls could roll around. For three hours a day, over 18 days, the scientists opened the pathway between the home and the feeding area. The bumblebees never had to leave the pathway to find food, but they left anyway. They weren’t interested in the side where the balls didn’t move, but they made lots of visits to the side with the rolling balls.
Catching the balls with their legs, the bees would move their wings to pull on the balls, causing them to roll. The 45 numbered bumblebees did this 910 times during the test. Though some only did it once, others did it a lot. The younger ones liked to spend more time rolling balls while the older ones showed less interest in it. One bee was recorded rolling balls 44 times in a single day. One was seen rolling balls 117 times over the whole test.
The test raises important questions about how the insects’ minds work and whether they have feelings.
12. What did Chittka want to do about bumblebees in the earlier test
A. Train them to move balls. B. Make them learn to relax.
C. Find out if they’d share food. D. Discover if they played.
13. What did the scientists do to bumblebees before the new test
A. They let them interested in balls. B. They had all of them go hungry.
C. They marked them one by one. D. They named each of them.
14. What can we say about the older bumblebees’ behavior in the new test
A. They understood simpler numbers. B. They were less active in rolling balls.
C. They helped the young pull on balls. D. They held their attention for longer.
15. What’s the best title for the text
A. Two Tests Prove Bumblebees Expect to Play
B. Bumblebees Are the World’s Smartest Insects
C. Scientists Make Bumblebees Work for Them
D. Bumblebees Are First Insects Known to Play
